If you think this is okay for me, you should think it's okay for all the other "idiots", too.Repeal the law.Give us our freedom. If we die, one less idiot for you to worry about.
7/7/2011 12:37:07 PM
seriously though, the part that annoys me the most is the attitude of "i don't need a helmet, nothing bad will ever happen to me"have you seen how many OTHER idiots are on the roads?? i wouldn't get on a motorcycle without anything less than full leathers and a full face helmetor at all for that matter
7/7/2011 12:40:59 PM
7/7/2011 1:26:03 PM
Are you really making the "if bad things can still happen we might as well do nothing" argument?
7/7/2011 1:31:16 PM
Only if you're using the "You will get hurt because a possibility exists!!" argument[Edited on July 7, 2011 at 1:35 PM. Reason : .]
7/7/2011 1:34:36 PM
I'm not, no.But helmets significantly reduce the likelihood of fatalities, so requiring them is a good idea.
7/7/2011 1:38:18 PM
i bet he's opposed to forcing us to wear seatbelts too
7/7/2011 1:40:25 PM
Look, I understand there are accidents. I understand it's dangerous. I'm not saying that you shouldn't were a helmet. I am saying you should have the freedom to wear a helmet if you don't feel safe. I'm am saying you should have the freedom to wear leather if you don't feel safe. You should also have the freedom to NOT wear one. It should be your responsibility. Not anyone elses. If you wipe out on a bike, you're more likely to die than if you get in a car accident. It doesn't mean that we should take bikes off the road. Likewise, you're more likely to die without a helmet than with one on, but it doesn't mean we have to sacrifice our freedom just because someone that isn't you is afraid of death.[Edited on July 7, 2011 at 1:42 PM. Wearing a helmet in a motorcycle accident to protect you from dying is like wearing a life jacket in a shark feeding frenzy to keep you from drowning.
7/7/2011 1:44:39 PM
Thanks pikey. That better expresses my thoughts.
7/7/2011 1:46:31 PM
Wait, was that siding with GeniuSxBoY?I take that back.
7/7/2011 1:51:47 PM
This isn't irony, but a case of poor planning that resulted in deathhttp://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2011-07-04/india/29735331_1_kidney-transplant-eye-surgery-girl-ends-life

If I couldn't swim I'd still want the life jacket and take my chances with the Sharks.

Definition of irony: indian guy teaching us all how to speak english
7/7/2011 2:32:11 PM
Given all those years of British occupation, I don't think an Indian who speaks proper English is all that unexpected.
7/7/2011 2:35:13 PM
Not at all. English is fairly ubiquitous there.
7/7/2011 2:37:16 PM
Then it's clearly not ironic.
7/7/2011 2:39:17 PM

7/7/2011 2:40:02 PM
You're all wrong. Everyone knows that the true definition of irony is a bunch of idiots dancing around on a plane, to a song made famous by a band that died in a plane crash.
7/7/2011 2:42:59 PM
Riding a motorcycle to begin with is stupid. If you get hit hard by a dumb driver, you're basically dead or crippled.

7/7/2011 3:02:30 PM
You're not just screwing yourself. Riding without a helmet places a burden on society. What's going to happen when your family can't afford the $Texas medical bills? Who's going to support them financially after losing your income? How can they afford funeral expenses? What about lost work time while they recover from losing a loved one? Dying in a grisly, preventable accident doesn't just harm you. If you believe that then you're being a selfish prick.
7/7/2011 3:20:24 PM
+1 for no law. I hate nanny laws. If there was no law, would I still wear a helmet? Sure, I'm too pretty to die. If you're not going to require full-face kevlar helmets, back braces, full leathers, steel boots, gloves, windshields and throttle governers, why require anything? I've heard no consistent argument for the law existing. Protecting your face from debris so you don't get hit and fly into oncoming traffic? Why does the DOT allow open-face and half-shell helmets? Decreasing the load on the health system after a motorcycle wreck? Intuition would tell me that helmets would provide an insignificant benefit. (^ if you have that much to lose then the adult decision would be to stay off a bike altogether) Why allow motorcycles at all?Is it anyone else's business whether my gf keeps the baby? Nope. Whether I allow smoking in my private bar? Nope. Whether my mom marries her partner? Nope. Whether I decide to wear a helmet? Nope. Get off my lawn with that shit. If thousands upon thousands of experienced bikers that are well aware of the risks choose to ride hatless, there is zero reason not to let them.[Edited on July 7, 2011 at 3:24 PM. Reason : ^]

GeniuSxBoY is ruining a good point. We, as Americans, should have the right to do whatever we want so long as it does not impede on our fellow citizens' rights. From drinking chocolate milk at lunch to shooting up heroin in the comfort of our own home. Wearing seatbelts and helmets isn't going to make you or anyone else on the road drive an better/worse. If GeniuSxBoY falls off his motorcycle, cracks his skull and dies, its no sweat of anyone elses back.

So then you should or shouldn't be required to put a child in a car seat? Cause you're affecting someone else's life but there's only harm if you're in an accident...Or what about DUIs? If you dont get in an accident you don't hurt anyone else but you have the potential to hurt someone else through your actions. I'm not trying to provoke you. Just trying to figure out the lines you're drawing.
