as a homeowner, i most certainly do not want a hurricane. (even though they are "fun" to experience)
8/23/2011 11:11:50 AM
^^^ No kidding. I am a homeowner.Damage costs me money, now.And what ^he said.]
8/23/2011 11:12:00 AM
as a renter, i don't give a shit about you or your homeowner problemsbring on Irene
8/23/2011 11:20:11 AM
As a homeowner, I want a hurricane because I want a new roof and it would be nice if it busted some windows since those need to be replaced as well.
8/23/2011 11:24:11 AM
I, for one, welcome Irene with open arms. We need the rain. One of my students told me today he's bringing his family to the beach this weekend. I told him he might want to watch the news tonight instead
8/23/2011 11:24:23 AM
lol no matter where you go, they always 'need the rain'
8/23/2011 11:25:36 AM
plus Irene related home repairs would probably dump money into the local economy

im not hatinbut there is ALWAYS someone that says they need rain, just an observation
8/23/2011 11:34:15 AM
Probably because we've been in a drought for years. Think the last time we got out of it was when a hurricane hit us
8/23/2011 11:39:14 AM
I don't care about the rain and/or drought
8/23/2011 11:40:43 AM
itll be nice if the satellite dish doesnt blow off the roofi do NOT want the power to go out, because it's already hot as shit
8/23/2011 11:41:47 AM
Isn't there some historical precedence about whether or not this thing passes to the left or right of the bahamas as tell-tale of whether or not we'll see it?
8/23/2011 11:42:51 AM
I'm for anything that could destroy south carolina

If youer in a hurricane warning there is no chance of picking up new coverage
8/23/2011 1:20:23 PM
binding authority has not yet been taken away - so as of right now - you can still get coverage.<--- works at your local insurance home office in the department that decides when it goes and how much of the state will have it taken away
8/23/2011 1:28:37 PM
is it bad i don't know who i'm insured by? LEMME LOOKIT DAT MORTGAGE BILL RIGHT QUICK
8/23/2011 1:31:17 PM
I gotta check on my cart insurance
8/23/2011 1:40:55 PM
my mom got a new homeowners insurance plan and they flat out told her if anything happened within 30 days of her signing up, it wouldn't be covered (or something like that)and even if you do have insurance, it's still a huge PITA to have to have something repaired, or worse... you could be without a home in some extreme cases - that's why I don't understand the whole attitude of "meh, just make a claim"
8/23/2011 1:43:06 PM
^ that seems super shady, but maybe I just don't have enough experience yet to know if that is normal.I have only owned a home for about 1.5 years and have never switched while covered, but it was a requirement by my mortgage company (before I could even buy the house) that the house insurance be setup and active from day 0. There was no dead period, it wasn't even on the table. Also, if you are switching home owner's insurance on an existing mortgage, it should always work out that company 1 is covering up until the very last day and the new insurance takes over immediately after. I would never accept anything less. Just like health insurance you never want or accept any lapses in coverage. The only thing I could think of is that maybe she didn't have it escrow'd (or owns it outright) and let the insurance lapse? At that point, like medical insurance, there are usually windows where the insurance company will not allow any claims to prevent exploitation. [Edited on August 23, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Reason : ]

^, ^^Yea - look at the effective date of the policy on the declarations page. Regardless of what she was told, that is the legally binding document. If it says she has coverage today - she has it - period. Also, how large of a PITA claims service depends on which company you are insured by. There is a difference in quality of claims service through out the industry.

but what are the rules on earthquake insurance?
8/23/2011 2:18:44 PM

8/23/2011 6:22:09 PM
Is that a jizz sandwich
8/23/2011 6:24:35 PM
idk what company, but I'm probably explaining it wrong it might have been new flood insurance vs switchingI just know she had some sort of waiting period
8/23/2011 6:42:55 PM
Flood insurance is done through a special program, much like wind coverage at the beach. There is a 30 day wait period on it becoming effective. It's their universal fraud prevention strategy to prevent anyone from purchasing the policy with knowledge of an impending storm or other flood event.
