Oh yeah...I've never actually climed Grandfather mountain...I guess that's about the only "popular" NC mountain that I haven't climbed.

My grandma was a north carolina history teacher and my granny lived in nags head, between the two of them and their love of travel I don't think there is an NC landmark I haven't seen.

My parents took me on an OBX vacation when I was a teenager and we hit all the lighthouses. Looking back now I'm really glad we did that. It was awesome just taking ferries, driving along the ocean on small roads, and eating fresh seafood every night. I've never been to Mt. Mitchell and it's been way too long since i've been to the caverns to even say i've been.

9/6/2011 7:38:03 PM
I'm just glad someone finally got it right, it's Devil's Tramping Grounds, as a Chatham county native I was highly offended. Although yes it is fairly lame and trashed now but if you get lucky you might get to party with drunk rednecks there at night and they can tell you about chatham's other famous spot Carolina Hill
9/6/2011 8:49:37 PM
So that article said that no one has ever stayed the whole night there...is that true?

bump because we had never been to Biltmore and we were tossing around the idea of going sometime until I saw ticket prices No way I'm paying $50+/person to go there
9/20/2011 7:48:07 AM
If you are going to go to Biltmore, either go in the spring when everything is in bloom or at Christmas when they have up 5000 trees and all the balla decorations.I had never been to the Outer Banks until a few years ago and it quickly became one of my favorite places in NC. Also never been to New Bern at all, been meaning to go sometime soon though.Other places I haven't seen mentioned yet are Fort Fisher, USS North Carolina or Reed Gold Mine. I highly recommend Fort Fisher if you enjoy history and/or nature. It's beautiful and you can take the fun ferry ride to get there. There is a huge sea wall that you can walk on that takes you way out into the water, and you can climb to the top of the Buchanan Battery to get a great view of the surrounding area.

The World's Largest (functional) Frying Pan has a capacity for 365 chickens. It weighs 2 tons, is 15 feet in diameter and holds 200 gallons of cooking oil. It can be viewed every day in the "Town Square" in Rose Hill and has been used to cook chickens for various festivals and fund-raisers for over 4 decades. The pan was built in 1963 by Queensboro Steel Corp in Wilmington as a tribute to the area's burgeoning poultry industry. If you want to see the World's Largest Frying Pan - only Rose Hill can make such a cast-iron claim.
