few thingsa) I don't feel it is fair to compare 4g phones with 3g phones. These are the first 4g phones and they will all have their quirks that need to be worked out. Secondly, I feel most of the companies (HTC, Samsung, and LG) were rushing their product out the door. I can't really blame them because American is very impatient. Apple is 3g on Verizon's network so I group it accordingly.b) Additionally, multiple companies use android software, however android always gets the blame when usually its the companies fault. HTC knew they had battery life issues, but was in such a rush to be the first to put out their 4g phone they didn't fix it, imo. That could have something to do with Verizon pushing them as well. Who knows. But now everyone that has a Thunderbolt and says fuck android when it should really be fuck HTC. Same goes with the original Motorola Droid. It was the first of its kind and, like with anything, is going to have its issues. c) Verizon puts a shitload of bloatware on Android devices, but not on the iphone4. That really pisses me off.

I will say that for its time, the iPhone 4 was a great phone. It's also the first iphone that I thought looked good because it looked nothing like the older iphones.Similarly, the iPhone 4S is a great phone... for the iPhone 4's time. For today it's too small for a premium phone.

did you even read my list of bullshit problems with my phone?and thats just my current phonemy last phone never received phone calls [edit: in its last few months of life it wouldn't show the calls coming in, just voice mails for some reason, and i couldnt answer calls that DID show up because the touch feature to 'one button' answer stopped working], would reset itself to default setting and then magically come back on with my settings, the touch feature would cut out and make the phone useless... yes these sound like user error... or possibly shit quality phones from the manufacturer (not android)it just blows that theres not a company out there that can make as solid a hardware device as apple for Android, i love the Android OS, and yes, that was a mistake on my part not making that distinction between the fact that its the products, not the OS that i am frustrated with.[Edited on October 16, 2011 at 11:56 AM. Would I rather have an imac than a dell all-in-one?: YesWould I buy a dell all in one anyway?: Hell noReferring to desktop PCs, the kind you would use to play really good and graphically intensive games, the kind of games that aren't on Mac.As for installing windows on a mac, you're saying one should buy an overpriced computer THEN spend an extra $100 for windows? Why not just use a dedicated windows PC?[Edited on October 16, 2011 at 12:07 PM. Reason : ]

^ thank youi think wanting a 'working phone' is not a superficial reason either. if you read the list of apps i do have downloaded on my phone youll see that all i want to be able to do is dick around every now and then and answer a damn phone call... and not have to re-start my phone when i wanna send a text message as it freezes a lot when it tries bringing up my msgs (and from a previous thread, i decreased the max amnt of messages until it auto deletes them, and make a point to keep less than 15 convos running... all of which i shouldnt HAVE to do anyways) and it still freezes

Too many people here saying that problems with a phone aren't problems with android when that's completely false. Google doesn't give a shit who makes a phone with android or whether it works at all. Look at Apple and Microsoft and you dont see the same problems as Android phones have. Having 0 quality/spec requirements ends up with a bunch of shit phones where manufacturers are trying to squeeze every penny out of a device. I bought 6 Droid Xs late last year for our office (not even 12 months yet). I currently have 2 of them left. Mine was swapped out 4 times with the 4th being a new iPhone. 2 others were swapped 3 times with the 3rd being an iPhone. 1 other has been swapped 5 times now with various other Androids (user is determined to stay with android with an Incredible 2 currently). Strangely, I haven't had to do anything for the iPhone users since we switched. You can't do as much with an iPhone but when it boils down to it, the phone actually functioning is a pretty big advantage. As for Mac vs Windows, I typically prefer the macbook options but the new stuff coming from Samsung and Dell is looking more promising especially since I require Win7 for work.

evlbuxmbetty why do you want to switch your PC and phone to Apple at the same time? What would be the point in switching all your electronic products? Seems kind of arbitrary.
10/16/2011 7:53:04 PM
I, for one, am super glad I don't use either.
10/16/2011 7:55:51 PM
i just switched to the iphone, and can i say how NICE it is to be able to receive phone calls again? my phone calls on my 1g droid would go to voicemail in my apartment.

Will iphones ever have swype?? I hate the touchscreen keypad...but I LOVE swype. Don't think I could do without it.
10/17/2011 6:51:55 AM
^extremely doubtful. Apple will likely never open that API for devs.
10/17/2011 7:57:08 AM
Unfortunate. Then I will never get an iphone.
10/17/2011 8:32:44 AM
cani too have come to love love the swype. they'll get it in 15 years. and yeah, when i switched to my 4g android i loved receiving phone calls again... however, the interface when the call comes in, switches back and forth from the puzzle pieces to big buttons... idk why that is. maybe its when people are calling from 'mobile' or from 'home' or favorited people come in with a puzzle piece? im pretty sure its not supposed to be changing like that tho... but i havent investigated it further and really hadnt thought about it until now... hahaha*goes to look at settings*[Edited on October 17, 2011 at 10:03 AM. Reason : ok, can't see where that option can be changed... lemme know if anyone else is experiencing this]

^ I've been reading all of your problems with your phone and just have to say that I haven't experienced any of them. Like...I seriously don't know what the hell you are talking about. I think you just have bad luck with getting shitty phones. The only problem I've been having with my Android phone is that it didn't come with a lot of memory and it tends to slow down a little bit. Just like a computer that is a tad overloaded. It doesn't happen a lot, but it will sporadically "freeze" or just start jumping around. It doesn't really bother me that much.

10/17/2011 10:08:48 AM
who is your carrier? i dont know how that would change anything but you never know, maybe Verizon buys shitty phones. My friends who have droids have had success on other carriers, i dont think i have any droid buddies who are on verizon with me yeah, i've had some bizarre troubles with phones and my current PC... when i took it out of the box, the cursor moved erratically and made the computer unusable, had to have the entire screen replaced (at least thats what HP told me) then... it happened again with the overhauled computer... then the hard drive went and committed suicide i think technology just isnt for me

im wondering what the hell some of you are doing to your Android phones to keep breaking themI have a $1 silicone case on my DX, it's flawless after 14 months

Everybody hates my carrier (AT&T), but they've been great to me for the past 12 years (Cingular in the beginning). Most Android fanboys don't like my phone either (Samsung Fascinate), but it's been great for me. The display is amazing (better than any iphone I've compared it to). I've played with plenty of iphones, and I like them, but not enough to switch over. And REALLY REALLY REALLY hate typing on a touchscreen. I mean....it seriously sucks, and I have relatively small fingers. I text a lot and write a ton of emails on my phone, so the SWYPE is a HUGE benefit. It will seriously prevent me from ever switching to an iphone. I don't know how all you techies put up with touchscreen keyboards w/o swype. As for the plastic comment...what's the benefit?? I've got a very slim case and I drop my phone all the time (ruined my Blackberries on a consistent basis because of this)...and I don't have one nick on my Android after several dozen+ drops.I like apple. Love my classic ipod and my macbook (which has crashed several times actually)...but my android phone is perfectly fine.
10/17/2011 10:18:02 AM
I have a thunderbolt with verizon... I got it the day it came out. And i love it. Battery life is not amazing. But everyone getting a tbolt ahould have known that fro m the get go. You have awful luck. Verizon has always been great. To me.
10/17/2011 10:20:36 AM
I almost got the Thunderbolt but went with the Samsung Charge after reading all the reviews. The Thunderbolt is def a sleeker looking device and I prob could have gotten an extra battery for that one too.I keep a silicone case on my phone. I honestly do not know what I've done so wrong to curse me when it comes to smart phones.
10/17/2011 10:22:24 AM
maybe you should switch to iphone and report back in several months whether you're happy with the decisionif i were scorned by a certain company and i switched to someone else, it would feel really good to have left the first company even if the new company ends up being about the same (going through that now with getting rid of road runner and getting u-verse)[Edited on October 17, 2011 at 10:26 AM. I, too, have the Thunderbolt and it's been great so far. Didn't like the battery life, so bought the extended battery through Amazon and now generally lasts all day (depending on how much use it gets).
10/17/2011 10:31:38 AM
rooting, overclocking, free wifi tether, Swype, extended battery, custom everything... Reasons why I will stick with Android.I have had the DX since its release and still love it. Never even bought a cover and it is mint.
