Our neighbors have put up one of those music light shows on their house. I keep meaning to tune the radio into the station they have hijacked to hear what music it:s set to but forgetting when I actually drive by it.

We've got just a few more gifts to get for three people, but the ones we have are wrapped. Super excited that I was able to get my hubs a couple of really good gifts on sale, so he's got a few under the tree with a modest budget Had Christmas with one extended family this weekend. We do dirty santa, and got a grill kit and one of our own back--Charlie Brown Christmas tree

Post office was pandemonium last night That's what I get for waiting until the last minute to send out gifts. Also wtf to costing $10 to ship some stupid cookie tins. Next year I'm just ordering extended family gifts from Amazon.

What are some good book ideas for a 31 year old female and a 53 year old male? My sister likes fantasy books and all that jazz so I think maybe The Hunger Games would be good, but I'm at a loss for my dad. He likes business crap. HELP
12/21/2011 2:13:46 PM
If he follow's Karl Denninger, he's got a new book out that's supposed to be pretty good: http://www.amazon.com/Leverage-Cheap-Money-Destroy-World/dp/1118122844/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpt_1

Yeah Hunger Games is a safe bet from what all of my fantasy/sci fi reading friends have said. As far as your dad goes, if he likes business crap maybe a year's subscription to The Economist?

If she hasn't read Ender's Game or that series, those are fantastic. Also, Wizard's First Rule is good, and the box set for the first four would probably only run you at $30.
12/21/2011 2:18:47 PM
American Gods is also a great book if she hasn't read it already.

He's not a big magazine reader, but thank you thank you for that book suggestion BeethovenI told my sister she would like The Hunger Games (I really think she would love them) but at the same time I don't want to force them on her and look like I'm all READ THESE NOW! I have heard The Ender's Game series is good - I'll definitely write that one down (and the others)Do any of them deal with fantasy as in.. something similar to Lord of the Rings?

i have no idea what to get my grandmother.or mother.

Wizard's First Rule is fantasy (Terry Goodkind), and probable most similar to LOTR, but a bit darker, and also a bit easier to read in one sitting. Ender's Game is also fantasy, but more set in the future than LOTR style.
