this is very simple. they have the right to protest. they don't have the right to set up a freaking campground wherever they want. jeez, are you that stupid?
11/9/2011 3:19:23 PM
^I feel very comfortable with it. Everyone who wants a gun should have a gun.Crime will decrease, the number of dead criminals will increase.

Just ask one of the locals about the Greekfest experience and you'll probably learn why the city doesn't enjoy babysitting/worrying over large, directionless crowdshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Virginia_Beach#1989:_.22Greekfest.22_riotshttp://hamptonroads.com/2009/09/painful-legacy-1989s-greekfest-endures

^^^ Yeah, I saw that. I'm all for them protesting on Capitol Hill. That's where the fucked-upedness is, not Wall St.Of course, they really only need to be complaining about a couple of things, but they will poison their credibility and dilute their message by bullshit wanking about 100 other stupid things.[Edited on November 10, 2011 at 1:30 AM. I'm wondering if you know that corporations OWN washington d.c.?
11/10/2011 1:24:06 AM
You are right. Pretty much congress can't get a thing done because every senator and representative is strapped financially to them and can't put bread on their families tables without themevery single vote is a paid for vote. i'm starting to think that senators and politicians aren't even human anymore. you know with that cloning technology and AI. they could by cylons. you just never know is all i'm sayingexxon and apple inc basically could have already put us into the matrix as well. we better check that out too. i mean if it isn't 100% obvious by now i mean we are all screwedone of these days i'm going to fly a helium balloon high into the atmosphere just to check that the earth is round with my own 2 eyes. i mean all this "SCIENCE" bullshit you know has been corrupted and bought by the corporations. i mean hell, they own the government, and the government owns education, doesn't that mean everything is owned by corporations?let's get a search party together. i don't even know if anything is real anymore GeniusXBoyyou bring up some very real and interesting points that i'm sure the whole world let alone OWS would be interested in. be careful. corporations have wiretaps on the internet. you aren't safe posting in here anymore. time to take it offline
11/10/2011 1:37:29 AM
^^1. No shit, that's news to nobody, least of all someone as politically aware as I am.2. What the hell else would you have companies do? The problem is that Washington is for sale to begin with.

Anyone who lives in the United States has entered into a social contract. True freedom exists nowhere. True freedom is not what OWS is trying to accomplish. The social contract that we have all agreed to involves each of us giving up some of our freedoms in exchange for some forms of protection. We have all given up our freedom to murder someone else in exchange for everyone else being prevented from murdering us. We have all given up our freedom to have sex with children in order to prevent others from having sex with our children. We have all given up the freedom to rape others in order to prevent others from raping us. Those who violate the social contract have the majority of their remaining freedoms, and sometimes their lives, eliminated. The social contract in the United States isn't all that bad. The wage-labor contract, however, is flawed. There's nothing preventing the wage-labor contract from being modified except for greed. That's the major point that OWS makes.Even if you don't necessarily support the movement, go and check it out. It's only in its infancy, but Occupy has the possibility of being the most significant social movement since the Civil Rights Movement, and is likely the most significant social movement we will see in our lifetimes.
11/10/2011 3:48:02 AM
^,^^ Exactly. The point is that if you are going to state that "none of us are free because we aren't truly free", then really what you're saying is that you aren't free unless you live in an anarchy and in complete isolation from anyone else. Only then can you be truly free to do whatever you want. Why? Because there is no need for a social contract in the absense of governance or a population.
