Sad they weren't doing much to control it... I wonder if he has Prader Willi (Obviously not every fat kid has that, but you have to wonder if it's this bad)
11/28/2011 3:31:33 PM
thanks for agreeing.
11/28/2011 3:32:06 PM
Oh, do you lose sleep over this issue?
11/28/2011 3:33:15 PM
You just took the issue off the issue.

GeniuSxBoY, I don't think she had to get the kid down to some magic number. And I'm not saying the system is fair. The vast majority of the parents who are going to get busted for this are probably singled out because they receive welfare benefits or hit on someone's radar for something otherwise unfair/judgmental. But, once you get identified and the social workers are involved, you should care enough to take the steps to improve your child's condition. If you don't, then there are consequences.Plus, if you've ever worked with or known parents who aren't exactly fit, then you'd know how hard many of them try, going to counseling, AA/NA, following the advice of "experts" even when it seems totally stupid... So it's pretty repulsive that this mother, who apparently has no other problems besides this food thing, is stuffing her kid to the brim.

Am I sad for a mouse when I feed it to a snake?Yes. If you save the mouse, you kill the snake. If you let the mouse die, you save the snake. Am I sad for this child that's subjected to shitty parents?Yes.If you save the child, you kill freedom. If you kill the child, you save freedom.

Parents should be able to kill their children....FOR FREEDOM

Way to preserve freedom jtw!! You really know how to do it!

You all suffer from "it's not happening to me but when it does then it will be unfair, but until it does, it's all okay" syndrome.
11/28/2011 3:49:10 PM
You're suffering from not enough to do today.
11/28/2011 3:50:46 PM
You're overlooking the freedom of children. You're all concerned with the mother's right to feed her kid however she pleases, but you're totally sacrificing the kid's right to grow up in a generally healthy environment that does not endanger his life. And I'm not a hardass or anything. I hope the mother and child will eventually be reunited, and I suspect that's what everybody in this situation wants. But the mother does need to take steps to not actively destroy her child's chances to be healthy.

I agree with genius boy on most points he brings up, but I am lucky to live in a country that will use resources in the interest of a child. That being said, it is easily abused and misapplied, so that is why I side with freedom of choice in most arguments

kids have zero freedom.adults fail to acknowledge their intelligence and intellect.I've seen adults act like kids, talk like kids, be irresponsible like kids, break the law like kids, be financially irresponsible like kids.I've seen kids act like adults, talk like adults, be responsible like adults, adhere to the law like adults, be financially responsible like adults and yet they are bound by law. Restricted of freedom based on a number of days they've been alive.I know eight year olds that can drive better than most handicap or asian people. I have no idea why they let handicap people drive when they can't park straight. I don't know why the don't teach asian people to look behind them BEFORE they back up out of a parking place. I would think this was a prerequisite to getting your license. But no, that doesn't apparently matter.[Edited on November 28, 2011 at 4:05 PM. Reason : ..]

You don't have to agree with me.You guys don't do your own research. There are 13 yos that have graduated college. How does that make you feel?

I agreed with a few points about freedom he made, his personal beliefs and morals are another story.if you are not willing to consider the other view point, no matter how ridiculous to you they seem at times, then you are being ignorant yourselfbut, whatever... the thread would have ended in a more boring way, so he is good for something[Edited on November 28, 2011 at 4:10 PM. ^^Dude, you're agreeing with me. I know kids are awesome. That's why I think we should protect them and not let their parents do whatever they want to them just cause they're kids.^I have considered the other side. The issue of childhood obesity has been covered extensively, and we've all seen the parents, crying on TV, "He's hungry all the time. I don't know what to do--cheetos and apple juice are the only things that seem to help!" And I'm sympathetic, but I have to side with the well-being of children.

The usual? Have we had this conversation before?I'm sure the kid wants to be with his mother. That's one reason why, in my opinion, removal should be a last resort. And work should be done to see that they can be reunited.

the state should not take away kids unless they are in imminent danger and this fat ass was not

The things that come to mind:1. Overweight children are the responsibility of their parents. They're typically the root of the problem (I'm sure that little tubbikins isn't doing the grocery shopping) and the biggest factor in improvement. Without parental cooperation, weight management in children fails (for obvious reasons).2. Social services is not the enemy. Often time parents are ignorant and/or overwhelmed, SS comes in to educate and support these parents. There are so many resources available that people do not know about and a social worker puts parents in touch with these resources.3. Social services does not take children away from their parents lightly. In this case, I am sure that they came in and tried to help the parents before taking the child away. Social services typically does not take children away from parents who are moving in a positive direction -- even if it is at a snail's pace.4. Allowing your child to become morbidly obese without taking some kind of action is neglect.

Just How Much Is 200 Pounds? A hundred is a number so large that the human mind cannot grasp it. Two hundred, of course, is two times more than that. It is unimaginably large. Even our vocabulary cannot describe it.
