I agree with you on most of that. But since it's a gift and value can't drop below zero, parents won't be bag holders unless they bank on an inflated value that later comes back to Earth. By this I only mean they've invested none of their own funds in a "donation" and thus can't seemingly come out materially worse, unless you are suggesting the manipulation will automatically lead to a broader market crash (which is certainly possible).
