6am is way too early. if you already have your ticket (or are using the e-tickets thing) then all you have to do is make sure that you check your bags exactly 45 min before the flight - they won't let you on if you aren't there 45 min before.

even in the long lines, i've never gotten there before 1 hr 15 min prior and i've never missed a flight (flying out of rdu).

nah it can be bad pretty early. I had to drive to charlotte on a friday (be there by 10am) once and left early just in case- glad I did because traffic was a bitch on 40.
