The biggest thing that pisses me off about House Hunters (mainly International)...is when they buy a huge fixer upper and only come back 2 weeks later when nothing is done. They're all like, "we're really excited about the purchase and can't wait for the renovations!!" And they're living out of one room in the house. Why the fuck would I want to see that??

They've had a couple episodes where they get these amazing (but slightly dilapidated) houses in the Italian or French country sides for like $100k under budget and you know they are going to completely transform the house....but we never get to see it!! Fuck that.

Definitely agree about the rugs.

I do agree about the uniformity, but it all depends on the layout. If you have a room that isn't super open to the rest of the floor via layout and it's only opening is a standard door width it doesn't really interrupt flow or uniformity too much imo. Most rooms I would continue hardwood, but bedrooms are really split down the middle. Some people prefer a nice wool broadloom in a bedroom.

We have a fairly open floorplan (not as open as I would like but still open) as far as the kitchen, library, dining room, breakfast area, living area are concerned. Then, the guest bath and first floor guest room are down a small hall. We are doing that little hall and the guest bathroom in hardwood but the guest room we are keeping carpet. Part of the decision too was that it would have been an extra $850 or so to do that room which didn't seem worth it. If I was doing this hardwood install on a new house currently being built, I definitely would have continued the hardwood though since it is the first floor.

it's doable if you can live off of a small portion of your salary (and you make decent amount to begin with - nothing crazy but average for the area you're in) and you don't spend frivolously. have you plugged in budgeting stuff through mint.com. i feel like that's a decent place to start to see what you're left with at the end of the month once you take care of all necessities (bills, rent/mortgage, food, car, etc).

I love being able to do the mobile check deposit now. I know not a lot of people receive checks these days but my wife has a freelance editing job that she makes extra money from and always gets mailed checks. I used to hate having to make time to go to the bank JUST to deposit a check.

At some yes, but that's not really any more convenient than driving to and going inside a bank. Now I get the check in the mail, we sign it, open our bank app, take a picture of the front and the back of the check and submit. It's deposited in our bank within minutes of getting inside our house after checking the mail.

No, that's the whole point: you aren't tied to a physical bank or ATM or bank hours. It's done entirely electronically.

I've deposited checks as late as probably around 9pm with no problem. I did one this week from my car at like 8 before my soccer game. In fact I don't think I have ever used it within bank hours because we are never home checking mail during bank hours
