when I first moved to Va for grad school, I didn't know a soul. So the first thing I did after getting settled was to throw this humongous party at my crib. I met a lot of people that way.however, that tactic worked in the college atmosphere. I doubt it would work now. I haven't really met many people at all since I've been in NY either. I've met a lot at work, and a few at the gym.....but then again, I don't really have to worry about it. I'm in a different boat than you are I guess
