I've already given you the first step to resolving this. And, a degree does mean something w/ a bad gpa. And one bad grade will not ruin him/you or the gpa[Edited on August 1, 2008 at 6:56 PM. Reason : ][Edited on August 1, 2008 at 6:57 PM. Reason : ]

You keep saying that they should get rid of Heatwole cause people get bad grades in there. However, the people that get bad grades refuse to do the work that is necessary to pass. The only was to pass that class is to have a complete understanding of the material you need to know. He does a very good job at giving you all the information you need for the test. Unless in the two years since I've had him he grew a brain tumor and no longer speaks english then I see no reason for the school to get rid of him because students refuse to comply with his rules.[Edited on August 1, 2008 at 7:01 PM. Well, they should get rid of him. He needs to retire.

Why? Other than you friend having a bad grade, why should he retire?Has "your friend" used up all his freshmen retakes?[Edited on August 1, 2008 at 7:10 PM. Reason : ]

Having taken 3 courses with Dr Heatwole and studied-abroad with him in Namibia, I can easily say he's the best professor I had while in school. He's been all over the world and has contributed a tremendous amount to herpetology/zoology/botany etc... -His class was hard but not impossible. I made a B+ in it. You cant just expect it to be easy because it's a 100 level.-He presented the material in every lecture and his tests came straight from it. Only difference was their essay format where you had to essentially regurgitate everything he previously discussed.-He's not a bad professor. He just has some dumbass students who arent willing to apply themselves a little more for a 100 level course[Edited on August 1, 2008 at 7:41 PM. Reason : .]

Enough with this "my friend" bullshit. Man up, accept the fact that you made something other than an A, and and punch yourself in the nuts for getting pwnt in a 100-level class.

Anyone ever consider the possibility that some people are too stupid for college, and that intro courses are structured like this to weed those people out?
8/1/2008 8:50:26 PM
^But the catch-22 is that those same people are too stupid to realize that.

So you people find having to regurgitate pages of facts a good education? I call that epic fail. Education is about application, memorizing is easy enough without the prof. The purpose of school is to learn how to DO something with all those facts.
8/1/2008 11:58:46 PM
Those look alot better than many 200 level engineering courses...sorry, but if you suck at it, you *shouldn't* be allowed to be an engineer/zoologist etc...
8/2/2008 12:05:29 AM
memorization shit is worthless and a lot of classes focus too much on theory rather than practical knowledge.
8/2/2008 12:09:03 AM
also remember at this university, PROFESSORS are not paid to teach, they are paid to present you with information for you to learn, and to do research that makes the university more money. If you have a good teacher, the better for you.
8/2/2008 12:54:49 AM
That defeats the purpose of an education. Look, most of the people who get an education do not come from privileged backgrounds. That means, education for them is the last resort to alleviate their social or class standing. When the professor's last priority is to teach, then it defeats the purpose of an education and having a university-based education. Doing research to gain knowledge is only noble and viable if everyone can benefit from it. There is no point in gaining the riches of knowledge, unlocking nature's secrets, if you don't know how to share them. The statistics speak for themselves. 5% A's 17% B's, I would have to say 30% F's failed which includes unsatisfactory or withdrawal. So making these sweeping that the students fails to work, lazy, stupid, dumb, or just not college material only perpetuates your ignorance. Everyone isn't privileged to go to private schools, tutors, or what not to follow through these ridiculous standards. One size doesn't fit all. His tests are essay based. The notes that I had shown, even if you had given that answer verbatim, It still wouldn't be good enough. At most, you would make a 'C'. Read the syllabus. Sawash, you said you lost a test, you lied to him, you have no credibility in this matter. You lied or cheated to get your way across. If my friend had that chance, he would have made a B as well. As for the people who are saying that they B+, A+! Good for you, you are the in the top 5% Whatever you do, keep doing it. But, to making sweeping comments such as those under you are underachievers or lazy only shows that you are self-centered, arrogant, and the world works the best as the way it does and good riddance to everyone else. Students pay to learn. I have said what I wanted to say.

I just looked at the sample tests....and have NO IDEA why you are bitchingthe stuff he's asked is simple introductory zoology stuff but just asks for it in an essay format....EASYstop whining and start studying for the next 4+ years of your college career

there is not a single fucking thing about these statistics that I find unusual or any reason for anybody to bitch. the class isn't high school, no fucking shit..get the fuck over it and move on. Or fail out. A college degree isn't a right it's a privilege.

obviously if you feel you need to "get back" at a professor he must have REALLY sucked...best thing you can do is fill out a class eval properly
8/2/2008 9:27:36 PM
first of all, we know it was you that failed this class.....you are a freshman...college isnt like HS ...that 4.567 you had in HS is not going to carry over to college......at least it happened early.....so the 4.0 dream is gone.....on second thought, I guess you arent a freshman....but oh well....study harder next time and actually go to class like his online notes state.....[Edited on August 2, 2008 at 9:29 PM. lastsamurai still thinks it's always the professors fault if the student fails.Gee I wish my parents would have thought the same way, then I would never have to own up to my actions.
8/3/2008 10:58:18 AM
As an engineering student, I encountered many professors/lecturers who were absolutely horrid teachers. They were nice people, and they were experts in their fields, but they lacked a sense for conveying information to people beyond reciting from a book.
8/3/2008 11:32:13 AM
For some majors, ZO and BIO are interchangable, tell your "friend" to take the BIO. I don't think ZO150 has another teacher to choose from anymore. I had Mozely in 2004 for his last semester of teaching. If you compare the A distribution between the professors, Mozely's was way higher, almost double some semesters.

reading this threatd gives me 100% confidence that amerika is doomed! Students graduating from state are supposed to lead the country, find a solution to the energy problem, and find a cure for cancer? Seems like most of you expect NOT to EARN a grade, but get one by taking the easiest classes. Then when you're 35 and two payments behind on the mortgage you wonder why the fuk you're not getting ahead, and your boss is 10 years younger than you. FYI, big push on campus to "grade the curve", meaning a certain percentage of students are supposed to get F's, a certain percentage A's, with a bell curve in between. As far as canning a professor whom gives out a lot of F's, that means he's not concerned with his popularity because he brings in the research money (the ONLY performance evaluation for NCSU professors, BTW), and can actually grade like he's supposed to, not by popularity so he can drive enrollment.
