Olive Garden is great if you're dating a vegetarian.

They're pretty much limited to bottomless salad and free breadsticks, so you get out pretty cheap.

A vegetarian could get fat quick by wolving down multiple bowls of fettuchini alfredo

Olive Garden is But I always have to go there for lunch with clients. The nutrition information is appalling. The children's fettucini alfredo has 800 calories! That just seems wrong.

Thank god for their salad (hold the dressing) and minestrone.

Yeah if I get stuck at Olive Garden I just order the salad. At least that is good.

A bowl of pasta is usually worse for you than a cheeseburger

Only like 10 percent of the population realizes this

There are healthy pastas, but it's rare that you can find a restaurant with whole wheat noodles on the menu. And a serving size of pasta is much too generous in any restaurant.

Another thing to be careful about at Olive Garden (and most restaurants, for that matter) is SODIUM. You can easily consume twice your daily recommended intake of sodium if you're not careful.

There's your first problem. With pretty much every city now having good local Italian restaurants, I don't know why you would bother going to a shitty chain like the Olive Garden. Hell, even Macaroni Grill is slightly better and also uses fresh cheese.

Since you've been to good local italian restaurants in pretty mcuh every city, why don't you make an american guide to italian eating since every olive garden everywhere is always packed. Seems like lots of money to be made.

and for now you can tell me the ones in the Memphis, tn and Miami (with the exception of Miami beach$$$) areas since they lack Italians and have Italian restaurants ran by hispanics. Large citites like New York and LA are the only places I've been and visited lots of good local Italian restaurants. In most cases, especially around here, all you get is taste of the can at local places. Outside of food cities, chains dominate.

Personal opinoin. I love olive garden (although its not the best italian i've ever had, I don't even order true Italian food-I get spighetti, pizza, lasagna, talapia) Only a few restaurants off the top of my head have better salad and they were both five star steakhouses. I assume the rest of the people that pack olive garden (Always like a 45 minute wait ALWAYS) go there for reliable consistency. Its not the best but you know its gonna be good. Trying new Italian restaurants usually results in a fail since theres so many of them, they're so easy to run and 90% of them are chef boy ar dee quality. So what if OG doesn't grind the tomatoes on site. Its good, simple and they have some of the best salad and breadsticks around.

Its not like people go there because its cheap either. Most local italian restaurants are about hte same price or cheaper.

Olive Garden attracts the same sorts that go to places like Carrabba's. There will always be a market for people that like sub par food.

And really, no good local Italian in the Triangle? Really?

Hispanics running a place and working there are two different things. Any chain is ran corperately and just duplicated on site. nobody likes sub par food. people like what they think is good. if they like sub par food then sub par food tastes good. Granted, some people are afraid to try new things so there could be a better restaurant nearby but they will go to olive garden because its a name they know and trust will be good no matter where they go.

I'm not in the triangle which does have some good but not great ones. When I was in Wake Forest, Olive garden was the best thing within a reasonable distance. There was a pretty decent one downtown that closed early and had awful salad. I rahter give up the slight quality on my entree to have good salad and bread. There was also a good one in cary ~an hour from my home...the better quality not quite worht the drive even if they had great salad, didn't.

The only phenomenal Italian I've had was in little Italy and a fancy place I frequented in LA people say isn't even Italian. Miami beach has a few overpriced italian hits that are slightly better than OG.~25 an entree.

prefers...I hope you knew what I meant and were just swinging if not you are a lost soul and I will pray for you either way. If five guys offered the same price and had a drive through everyone would prefer it to mcdonalds. RELATIVE. Mcdonalds isn't low quality food RELATIVE to its opponents(burger king windys.

Olive garden isn't cheap or and you have to wait.

your points so far
-olive garden is bad but they get business because there is a large market of people just looking for bad food

-there are great unique italian restaurants in pretty much EVERY city

-(every city "now having" is how you put it which also means unique italian restaurants are some sort of new phenomenon sweeping the nation replacing chains forever

-most og employees are hispanic and by working there influence the menu, style, and flavor of the entire chain

-no understanding of categories and food classes. People eat lunch at mcdonalds as opposed to the angus barn therefore people prefer sub par food.
