Right now they are forecasting rain (possible snow) with a temperature around 34. Going to be a messy race.

I just finished a preliminary session tonight. I am not a great runner like most of the competitors, my specialty is in eating. I am pacing myself around a 10-12 minute mile. I biked 3 miles, ate 9 donuts in 6 minutes, and then finished with 2 miles in about 23 minutes, and I could have pushed harder if I needed to.

This is the first time I've ever competed in ANY sort of race, and even though I'm not gonna get a great time like some people, I'll be damned if I'm not going to finish in under an hour and keep from puking.

^ that is how I feel, my goal is to just finish without puking in a hour. I was supposed to try 9 doughnuts on Saturday but the snow delayed my training. I have only tried 6 doughnuts in between the 2 mile runs.

idk what's all the fuss about puking. I downed all 12 and didn't vom. The first few steps out of the KK lot were like...

OMG I AM GOING TO DIE

and then it was easy-peasey. Must have been the sugar rush...

Last year, I completed the challenge in 54 minutes, but I felt like crap on the run back. The first 8 doughnuts went down fine, but I hit a wall after that. I went into it thinking I would be just fine, since I can out-eat most of my friends (I've downed 2.5 lbs of steak before with no problem, and I've eaten 37 chicken nuggets with fries from McD's in one sitting). I'm gonna shoot for 49 min this year.

To all the new challengers... I prefer the 4 doughnuts at a time method (take 4 doughnuts, smash them together until it is flat, and then fold it over and consume). Also, if you are really hardcore, start eating really big meals now to expand your stomach, then eat a very light/early dinner on Friday night so that you wake up hungry

Just in case some people didn't see this...

"Incliment Weather Update

03-Feb-2010
Dear all Krispy Kreme Challenge Participants and supporters,
We will be having the 2010 Krispy Kreme Challenge Rain or Shine. We will be having the race unless the weather is adverse enough to make travel to the NCSU Belltower extremely dangerous. Specifically, significant amounts of freezing rain/wintry mix will cause us to cancel the race. We will update everyone via the website and the race newsletter on Friday afternoon if we are going to cancel the race. At this point we are still having the race. If we are forced to cancel, we will not have a make up date. If we cannot run this Saturday, then we will hold the next Krispy Kreme Challenge in 2011. There will be no refunds issued. We ask that everyone use common sense when making the decision to come to the race. Runner safety is our primary concern. We thank everyone for your support, and we look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

Sincerely,
The KKC Team "

What should I wear tomorrow?

I've never run in anything other than a long sleeve shirt and shorts

I asked begonias the same thing.

Her advice: no cotton. It'll absorb all the water like a sponge then you'll be really miserable.

I have to go pick up a lot of moisture wicking stuff today so I won't be as miserable

I'm in the same boat, I'm trying to figure out exactly what to wear. I think I'm leaning towards shorts, a tee shirt, and a light sweater. And maybe a pair of gloves. Since it's only a couple of miles, the only real concern I have is precipitation, not the cold, and it looks like it may not rain tomorrow morning.

Do what they do at marathons. Run in garbage bags. Not only are they wind- and water-resistant, but they're also vomit-resistant!

I'd wear cold weather Under Armour. Keeps you warm and wicks away moisture.

Everyone that gets the flu/pneumonia from this post it in here for lol's.

I've decided that these kids at the hospital have gone through a whole hell of a lot worse than running in cold rain... so I'm going to suck it up and still go out there tomorrow

completed as well. they could have it a tad more organized at the krispy kreme location. hard to find water and too many peeps stopped where they were passing out the doughnuts.

thank God it did not rain. weather was not bad at all.

good time

^ it took me a little bit to get through the cluster fuck right over where you get back on track after eating...

my friend was interviewed because she looked so pitiful eating the donuts but she ate all of them so yay!

^^^ Yeah it was pretty disorganized trying to find water and some asshole knocked over my cup right after I started eating. I tried eating more than one donut at a time, but couldn't and one at a time went pretty quickly. When I finished the timer was at an hour and like 3 minutes, so I guess whether I finished depends on how long it took me to cross the start line from the beginning of the race. Anyone know if there is a website where we can check race results?

Also, I vomited profusely about halfway back from Krispy Kreme. I felt fine after finishing the donuts but I guess the running triggered it. I literally puked up EVERYTHING I had eaten. Now I feel much better than if I had kept them down though. That was also the best tasting puke I've ever thrown up.

If you puke before you finish or you don't eat twelve donuts, you didn't complete shit. You tried and failed.

I ate all 12 doughnuts and didn't puke but it took longer than I thought to eat all the doughnuts (mainly due to the pain of getting water refilled). It took me over 20 minutes to eat the doughnuts. I ended up finishing in 1 hour and about 9 minutes (unofficial) so I didn't beat the 1 hour.

I finished in around 53 minutes I think, but the official times still aren't up. Ate all 12 doughnuts, no puking.

40 minutes is a great time. You must have been flying.
