Ok. Fill me in then.

Because I think we're "arguing" about when the Argentine earthquake took place in relation to the Chilean one.

Lets convert these to Eastern time in the United States, which is UTC -5 hours.

So the Chilean earthquake is listed here: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/Quakes/us2010tfan.php

Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 06:34:14 UTC ---> this is 1:34am eastern.

So the Argentine earthquake is listed here: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/Quakes/us2010tfc3.php

Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 15:45:41 UTC ---> this is 10:45am eastern.

Your exact quote was this:
Quote :
"ya it was before the big one. it was only like a 6. not a newsmaker"

I am simply arguing that the Argentine earthquake did, in fact, happen AFTER the Chilean earthquake.

What is it that you think I'm arguing? What is that you are arguing?

**** can someone who isn't the alias troll fill me in on what I'm doing wrong

[Edited on February 27, 2010 at 5:44 PM. Reason : I'm trying to better myself here. constructive criticism is welcome.]

You're right but I'm arguing that it didn't happen A FEW HOURS AGO. admit your ready the 3:something something time at 5 something and said "o it was 2 hours ago, argentine quake just happened" when it was utc time.

then when I corrected you you said "o my bad id din't know argentinas time zone" when argentina is not in utc time. this happened after the chile quake, you're right on that but you only reverted to this after your complete lack of knowledge on UTC time was exposed. epic deflection scheme.

friends that were camping on the beach during the quake posted some fb pics

the story i posted was a little off as i heard it from the twin sister of the girl it happened to. here is the story firsthand

Quote :
"We were on a weekend surfing and camping trip at Puertecillo beach, just north of the epicenter when the earthquake woke us up. As soon as we were able to stand up, we put on our shoes and urgently ran up the steep mountain on our hands and knees in the darkness. Alarms were sounding and people were frantically yelling TSUNAMI as we heard the ocean becoming louder and louder. We ran up to 120 meters with 17 out of the 23 other campers. Because we had to wait, we built a large fire to stay warm, yelled for the other campers that didn't climb all the way up, and anxiously waited for four hours for the sun rise.
The following pictures are of the beach destruction taken after sunrise, when we climbed back down to the beach, to see how the campsite was.

Unfortunately 1 out of the 23 campers died as they were trying to escape by car before the tsunami came. The small beach town of Puertecillo, only 2 miles from our campsite, was extremely damaged and there were 3 to 4 deaths.

The tsunami moved our Toyota 4Runner over 200 yards and suffered major external damage and with most of the windows shattered. None of the SUV's except for this one were able to start. Our engine died 4 minutes after it started as a result of being completely flooded with saltwater and full of pine needles, so we walked 2 hours to the next closest town to find help. Once in the town, we made our way back to Santiago to see what damaged had been done at home. We are very fortunate to be alive, and able to outrun the tsunami."

maybe no one cares but i think its more interesting to hear about what happened from someone who went through it and not the same 5min loop on the news

"Chile quake might have shortened days on Earth

(CNN) -- The massive earthquake that struck Chile last week might have shifted the Earth's axis and created shorter days, scientists at NASA say.
The change is negligible, but permanent: Each day should be 1.26 microseconds shorter, according to preliminary calculations. A microsecond is one-millionth of a second.
A large quake shifts massive amounts of rock and alters the distribution of mass on the planet.
When that distribution changes, it changes the rate at which the planet rotates. And the rotation rate determines the length of a day.

He determined that the quake should have moved the Earth's figure axis about 3 inches (8 centimeters). The figure axis is one around which the Earth's mass is balanced. That shift in axis is what might have shortened days."

a few of todays news stories:

not sure if associated but:
Quote :
"Giant waves hit cruise ship; 2 passengers killed

Two passengers aboard a cruise ship were killed when 26-foot waves crashed into the vessel Wednesday, officials said. As many as fourteen others were injured.
The Greek Louis Cruise Lines ship was off the French port of Marseille when it was hit by "abnormal" waves, some more than 26 feet (9 meters) high, cruise line spokesman Michael Maratheftis told CNN.
As a result, five windows in public areas were smashed and two passengers, a German and an Italian, were killed, he said."

and
There was a 5.6 magnitude aftershock.... apparently a false warning for a tsunami went out and everyone freaked out.

Aftershocks are Earthquakes and nobody could tell the difference between what is and what is not an aftershock. The only way you know is they follow the main quake (In this case the 8.8) and are obviously lower in magnitude than the main shock.
