^^^ I shoot a 7mm REM. I've never had a deer take a single step.

^^, ^^^ at the ranges a .223 would be even arguably appropriate, the flatness of the trajectory is irrelevant. Anything hotter than a .30-30 or .45-70 would shoot flatly enough that the differences would be negligible.[Edited on April 9, 2010 at 3:12 PM. Reason : 7mm is a good round, but it's more than necessary for a whitetail at any normal range]

My brother has a .300 win that he deer hunts with. You wanna talk about overkill...I shot a deer with it once and could see through her as soon as I pulled the trigger.

Oh wow...apparently I haven't looked at the regs in a long time.I am absolutely sure it used to be 357 & 243 when I was still at state because i had been looking into deer hunting with my 357.They changed the minimum barrel length to 5.5" for both small and big game shortly after.Apparently they don't care what you use anymore...
4/9/2010 5:48:42 PM
it's been a .22 cal requirement for at least 15 years in NC.I love hearing rednecks explain why using a round deemed by almost every military in the world as being perfectly capable of taking down a person is somehow incapable of killing a smaller animal. If you gutshot a deer with a 30-06, you're not going to kill it any faster than you will with a bad shot from a .223. If you hit your target in a smart place, both weapons are effective.

^^how are you liking your cw-9?It's got some kick, more than the XD-9. I still have a tendency to break my wrist up but i'm getting better. Also, i added a Hogue grip which has helped a lot.[Edited on May 2, 2010 at 10:18 PM. Reason : ^]
5/2/2010 10:17:28 PM
i haven't even had time to break it in yet that should change this week. final assignment is due tomorrow night. after being raised in the country, i just have a hard time paying a range fee. [Edited on May 2, 2010 at 10:19 PM. Reason : i was planning on getting a hogue grip to eliminate the cheese grater on there.]
5/2/2010 10:18:43 PM
5/2/2010 10:19:35 PM
yeah, and gutshot him with a .223 and you'll be tracking him for miles[Edited on May 2, 2010 at 10:21 PM. Reason : cost is the same. get more knockdown]
5/2/2010 10:20:59 PM
sounds like you can't shoot your rifle if you're worried about having to track the animal.
5/2/2010 10:22:11 PM
never had to track one, myself
5/2/2010 10:22:39 PM
5/2/2010 10:25:12 PM
^jw, why did you change from pooljobs?
5/2/2010 10:27:26 PM
made that name when i was in charge of hiring for a pool company, i don't do that anymore
5/2/2010 10:28:10 PM
ah gotcha.
5/2/2010 10:29:27 PM
were you having trouble handling the multitude of PMs you were receiving inquiring about employment in the pool industry?
5/2/2010 10:29:34 PM
i think i hired 6 people who saw the listing on this site and gave another dozen or so information about another division that i was not hiring for. so, it was worth the $5 that i expensed out.
5/2/2010 10:33:27 PM
what are the better online store/auction sites for guns?looking into a home protection shotgun (zero prior gun experience) sometime in the near future and was wondering who's legit.a lot of online reviews recommend remington 870 20 gauge (so the wife can handle it). possibly the youth model (shorter stock by 1") since she's 5'3".[Edited on May 14, 2010 at 10:37 AM. Reason : shortest i'm seeing for 20 Ga. is 21" ]
5/14/2010 10:34:40 AM
go to pawn shops. you'll save money b/c if you buy online you're gonna have to pay a fee to the FFL they ship it to.remington 870 or mossberg 500. both are fine for home defense. if you teach her to shoot and she practices, she'll be fine with a 12 ga. in my experience, youth model only helps out folks with small frames when they're wing shooting (birds, skeet, etc.). for home defense, the youth model isn't gonna make much difference and that way you can get her a 12 ga.but if for some reason you're dead set on a 20 ga, there's nothing wrong with them for home defense, just not as good as a 12 ga imo.[Edited on May 14, 2010 at 10:52 AM. Reason : fad]

^^Fuquay Gun & Gold... Mossberg 500 Tactical Persuader (12ga)[Edited on May 14, 2010 at 10:51 AM. Reason : walmart for ammo]
5/14/2010 10:51:30 AM
i would go to http://www.ammunitiontogo.com and buy some Federal Law Enforcement Tactical buckshot rounds instead, but walmart will do
5/14/2010 10:54:34 AM

5/20/2010 1:21:43 AM

5/20/2010 1:28:23 AM

5/20/2010 1:42:44 AM
^^^^Why aren't you looking where you are aiming it???
5/20/2010 1:51:37 AM
