My point is that we could go on with this forever. I could come up with a thousand bizarre and out of this world scenarios in which something wouldn't turn out the way you are sure it would happen.

But, since we're scientists, we follow a basic train of thought using a scientific method. We make conclusions based on evidence.

You're reasonably sure that combining two chemicals yields a certain substance. I would agree with you.

99.9999% of the time, it's going to happen. And because of that, I'm just going to go ahead and say that it happens all the time, because the remote possibility is so... well... freaking' REMOTE that it's ludicrous to even consider it.

And that's why I believe aliens exist. There are SO MANY Earth-like worlds out there in the Universe that to believe that there's a chance aliens don't exist would be to believe that combining two chemicals won't yield a third mixture. They're both incredibly, incredibly rare.

I'm absolutely convinced that there's no such thing as a psychic and they're all frauds.

But with the case of Lucy I'm alright with it. She's not spending beyond her means and she's not making harmful decisions based on his advice. The only thing that's being hurt here is God's keyboard from his furious typing.

Not to mention that he might give good advice despite his psychic claims. He used to be a minister so he's had some practice counseling people.

But you have to remember that there is also lots and lots of time. I'm talking hundreds of billions of years before or after. Especially when you consider the short amount of time that humans have been around, the chance that aliens exist at the same time as us becomes much much smaller.

i don't believe in psychics,

but using God's assumptions--if we mix two substances (two humans) together to produce another mixture (offspring), there is a chance that we may not get what we expect. a psychic could be produced---i wonder if that is enough facts of a psychic existing. humans have mixed together on earth close to 100 billion times.

So God calls his statistical argument a PROOF, when it isn't even EVIDENCE.

However, he is certain that psychics don't exist. According to his logic in PROVING that aliens exist, isn't it possible that there is 1 real psychic in the world and s/he for whatever reasons known to them do not want to have their powers proved in a scientific setting?

There are many ways that could be possible, but we weren’t there when Lucy was being read, so we can’t really intelligibly answer them.

But considering that psychics don’t in fact exist, the answer is more likely to be she was cold-read somehow, or it was a lucky guess, compared to psychics actually existing.

But i do agree that false hope is better than no hope. If lucy chooses to get her false hope from a psychic instead of church or meditation or television or insert-crutch-here, that’s fine. It’s when she crosses the line and starts judging people who don’t believe in psychics that problems start.

Humans for a hundred thousand years have believed in things that aren’t real to help us cope with life. If a psychic is just providing reinforcement, and not telling people to do harmful things, then i say live and let live.

Well, part of the problem is that OEPDumbassTalibanCockSucker failed to grasp/see the sentence that followed the "looks and personality" statement. Read what was actually said first:

side story: my dad was having some medical issues a while back that he was keeping to himself and immediate family. he was about a week away from major surgery, and he was at a commissioners meeting when a commissioner from another county walks up to him out of the blue and says not to worry about the upcoming surgery, and that everything will be fine. my dad says to the man how he knew of the upcoming surgery, and the man says that he senses these things. my dad only saw this other guy about once a year and would not have talked to him, or anyone, about his personal situation. very weird, but everything did turn out fine.
