If I go to Google News and go to the Science section, this article shows up http://news.google.com/news/section?pz=1&cf=all&topic=snc&ict=ln(at the bottom right now)

Guys, why is it that if anybody talks about the technician, it is about something that should not have been published. Did this all start with the sorostitute article?
2/8/2012 2:51:01 AM
Why are so many people bitching about "theory" being used incorrectly?
2/8/2012 3:00:01 AM
There was a time on TWW when someone (FroshKiller?) would point out that what everyone was calling an "article" was actually a "column". And in this case, the Viewpoint column is essentially a soapbox for the author (sometimes pretending to speak for the entire Technician crew as a whole) to speak based on their point of view and build the column off of their opinions and perspective. That being said, the viewpoint section in the Technician has been suspect for a very long time, sometimes pushing the limits farther, a la The Daily Tarheel, with their views generally being annoyingly opposite from the majority of the Technician's audience. Unlike the DTH, at least the viewpoint section is only a small percentage of the Technician and that the majority of the paper is (or at least, used to be) readable without any head shaking in disgust and disappointment. Hopefully, the crossword and sudoku are still being printed and the same puzzles you solved last week are "accidentally" being reprinted on a regular basis.

wow, some of the comments on the NCSU reddit are fucking pathetic. the mod is just trying to prevent illegal harassment and curb the over-the-top reaction to the article, and a lot of the posters are getting their panties in a wad over it, like he's trying to squash their rightsreally shows what a bunch of drips inhabit some of these sites

You cannot rationally argue somebody out of a position that they did not reach rationally in the first place.

^I don't think comments calling her moronic can be classified as true, that's definitely an opinion, not fact, nor theory. All I see are people calling her moronic because she doesn't believe in something that is called a theory, and cannot be immediately or definitively proved right in front of her like gravity can be. When you think about it in that light, I guarantee you that half the people commenting on that article are NOT scientists, are NOT biology majors, and obtained all of their information by reading articles and books, or by attending lectures in which a man/woman stood in front of them, and talked about his belief in the theory of evolution. Is that so different than someone reading the bible, and attending Church on Sunday to hear a preacher talk about his beliefs? They are complaining about how she is so stupid, but most likely half of them have never been in a lab and actually seen the solid evidence of evolution. When it comes down to it, both parties are putting their faith in the words and written works of another, unless of course, they have proven evolution themselves and have experience with it.Just sayin, they shouldn't be so hard on her.[Edited on February 8, 2012 at 10:48 AM. holy shit that girl is mentally deficient. Being a food lion cashier was her worst job??^I didn't mean the mean comments, people can think what they want. But it is embarrassing that she is educated at state and denies evolution. She should have gone to a bible college if she cannot handle people telling her facts.and some of the comments are fonded on fact.[Edited on February 8, 2012 at 10:43 AM. Reason : .]

You can go to State and not take a single class educating you about evolution. Especially if you're in that Chass crap. If she didn't want to hear about it, she shouldn't have taken it.

I stocked shelves at Food Lion in my college years....here's how those views and opinions differ for a stocker:1. Do not ask me if I work here.I'm pushing around a huge cart of boxes and putting them on the shelves. If you think I don't work there, you deserve the business end of my box cutter....and I'm surgical with that mofo...3. Do not ask me if something is on sale.Don't mind this so much. It says it on the tag on the shelf if it is, and I can point you to that.5. Don't ask me where things are located in the store. Please ask me - it's like a challenge/game - there's nothing you can even think of that I can't tell you where it is if we have it in the store.Ok - the rest is mindless drivel[Edited on February 8, 2012 at 11:16 AM. I am so tempted to forward that article to Food Lion. She sounds like a miserable employee to have to deal with.

Definition of the words "fact" and "theory" distract from the discussion. It doesn't matter how you go about it, this is about knowledge and certainty. The anti-evolution sentiment is that there is a strong possibility that evolution might be wrong, like it might rain tomorrow. That view is completely wrong. If someone never got the evidence, then yes, evolution can validly be said to be uncertain for them. Anyone who completed a college biology class should no longer be in this group of people.Biology is about evolution. The proposition that we should focus on is "the tree of life". Provided that someone, anyone, agrees that a tree of life exists with the hierarchical structure and innumerable extinct species, then we're done. That is evolution and any alternative theory to accept that tree of life and deny evolution is virtually semantics. There is no solid line between evidence and direct observation. With genetics we "see" the tree of life. There is as little basis to refute the genetic relationships (which lead directly to the structure of the tree of life) we see through technology as there is to deny a digital photograph.

^^^roll your eyes all you want-TLDR version is this, she has her opinion and you have yours, you have one belief and she has another, yours is backed up with demonstrable proof, hers is basically not.so what do you do? well if youre a student/her peer you dont act like a savage. you say there is no room for this type of idiocy at the college level yet your expose it by hounding her. and if youre the goddamn professor you sure as hell dont lose your shit. you have a PHD for fuck sake and youre letting some freshman get to you!what a joke! why not just let her be stupid?[Edited on February 8, 2012 at 11:28 AM.
