5 rushing tds holy crap
12/30/2012 3:58:58 PM
i mean, there's always andy reid. i'd say he's a tad better than some no-name coordinator
12/30/2012 3:59:34 PM
i wouldnt be upset if we fired rivera and hired reid, i think reid is one of the best pro coaches in the last 10 years, but i see rivera staying another year...if he can't go 9-7 or better next year, get rid of him...if he can, and more importantly if his playcalling resembles the last month or two all next year as opposed to some of his questionable clock management / timeout usage/misusage / prevent defense / being too passive on 4th and 1, i think he deserves a 3rd season
12/30/2012 4:02:58 PM
a lot easier to make tough decisions after you've been eliminated from the playoffs
12/30/2012 4:04:55 PM
this year and last year both, he's coached better once the playoffs were an afterthought, i agreebut maybe he's learned he needs to coach the same way in week 1, as week 14 with no chance of the postseasonunless somebody like Cowher or Gruden wants the job, i just dont like firing him for another unproven coordinatoryou can't argue with how much improved the defense has been over the last couple months, and i dont expect most coordinators to immediately learn to go from overseeing 4 coaches and 20 something players to 8 coaches and 53[Edited on December 30, 2012 at 4:08 PM. Reason : .]
12/30/2012 4:07:12 PM
im okay with giving him one more year, but im not terribly optimistic. The improvement on defense this year and our decent offense despite clear personnel issues makes me think he can get it done schematically, but he makes some really questionable in game decisions.Being ranked 31st in special teams after being 32nd by a mile the year before is definitely concerning. Get someone who knows what the fuck they are doing please
12/30/2012 4:08:48 PM
I doubt they'd hire an unproven coordinator over an established head coach againI don't want to waste another year of Cam to see if he's maybe learned how to be a head coach
12/30/2012 4:09:42 PM
also, while I place blame of losing the first Atlanta game, second Tampa game, etc on Rivera, I put the Seattle game, Bears game on Camand Cam, who is a 23-year old 2nd year player, has also looked much improved both physically and mentally the last couple monthsI wish this game today had playoff implications, but I also don't want to completely push the reset button after what we've seen since early November
12/30/2012 4:10:55 PM
0-7 in games decided by 7 points or less fucking blows, winning the Atl, Chi, and TB OT games puts us in the playoffs. oh well
12/30/2012 4:11:18 PM
i'd also be excited about hiring david shaw from stanford. i think that guy is gonna be a star
12/30/2012 4:11:22 PM
i'm just happy to sweep the bitch ass 'Aints this year[Edited on December 30, 2012 at 4:12 PM. Reason : suck it, Sleik]
12/30/2012 4:12:20 PM
split with the dirty birds (should have swept), sweep the aints, and get swept by the bucs, what a strange fucking year
12/30/2012 4:14:28 PM
12/30/2012 4:14:36 PM
didnt realize rivera threw a pick six in the 4th quarter while we were up 2 scores[Edited on December 30, 2012 at 4:18 PM. Reason : ok we were actually up 5]
12/30/2012 4:16:49 PM
and here I go putting the horse before the cart again, plenty of time for the bed to be shat
12/30/2012 4:18:24 PM
Rivera's late game management should doom him. If we have a chance to get Chip Kelly, we take it.
12/30/2012 4:22:06 PM
i'd love Chip Kelly, but he's not exactly known for defense early in the game, let alone late in the game
12/30/2012 4:23:24 PM
two straight years we had a team that easily should have made the playoffstwo straight years of playing just the tipunacceptable
12/30/2012 4:32:06 PM
i hear you and agree with your frustrationbut i also think its a bit of a stretch to say last year's team should've "easily made the playoffs"for example, last year's defense sucked dick]
12/30/2012 4:35:14 PM
maybe not easily last year, but there were definitely wins that were left on the table
12/30/2012 4:36:46 PM
both years have been the textbook definition of "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory". hopefully the 4 game win streak to end the season is a sign of the ship being righted
12/30/2012 4:41:33 PM
That's what we heard last year
12/30/2012 4:49:20 PM
except we went 2-2 to end the year last year but nice try
12/30/2012 4:52:26 PM
"easily made the playoffs"?THat team last year was fucking terrible and going 6-10 with the worst defense ive ever seen should be lauded. We had a really tough schedule this year and it took some time for Cam to learn how to play against defenses that had made adjustments against him. Cant put this season all on Rivera.
12/30/2012 4:59:55 PM
Another great year by the Carolina 7-9ers1995199720002002200420072012 And yes, Rivera will be back next year. General rule is take anything Michael Lombardi says and the opposite will happen.
12/31/2012 12:03:05 AM
and the problem with rivera is that his upside is basically andy reidgood teams that will never be able to win a super bowl because he is a bad game coach.
12/31/2012 12:05:37 AM
Lombardi of NFL network reporting RR will be fired today
12/31/2012 10:59:08 AM
Highly unlikely considering Rivera just held his usual Monday presser and Richardson isn't even in Charlotte today.
12/31/2012 11:11:06 AM
Not sure either of those factors correlate to whether he retains the job or not
12/31/2012 11:17:01 AM
I think they correlate to whether he retains his job today.
12/31/2012 11:21:15 AM
How exactly do you know Big Cat isn't in CLT btw?
12/31/2012 11:25:39 AM
Twitter.
12/31/2012 11:27:25 AM
Oh ok, just making sure your information was as worthless as mine then
12/31/2012 11:28:32 AM
12/31/2012 11:29:31 AM
another crappy year without playoff, except this one without a top 10 draft pick.
12/31/2012 1:34:28 PM
Hire Lovie Smith
12/31/2012 1:56:16 PM
good lord no
12/31/2012 4:03:43 PM
still holding out hope that Big Cat is waiting until after this game to fire Rivera/hire Chip Kelly
1/3/2013 8:36:36 PM
the new Browns owner is in love with Chip Kelly
1/3/2013 8:37:23 PM
also in love with Bill O'Brien
1/3/2013 8:40:17 PM
Bill O'Brien is staying at PSU. Could see both of the Kelly's end up in the NFL next year, definitely Chip though.Would love to hire Lovie Smith...as a DC. Lovie is a great defensive coach, but he's made some lame-brain decisions hiring OC's that didn't mesh well with him or his personnel, so why not bring him in as a DC? I understand he MIGHT get some HC looks, but I think he ends up as a DC for a couple of years before he takes over a team again. And I'd much rather have him as a DC than McDermott.
1/4/2013 8:19:17 AM
i sincerely doubt this, but figured i would post ithttp://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/01/04/could-cowher-become-the-coach-in-carolina/
1/4/2013 2:51:10 PM
now that it looks like Kelly has been scooped up by the Browns, really looking forward to next years 8-8 record (possibly 9-7) and missing out on the playoffs
1/4/2013 6:43:56 PM
1/5/2013 1:09:44 PM
YAY what a mistakeGo ahead and hire Beane to complete the offseason fuckup Jerry
1/5/2013 1:28:14 PM
Jake Delhomme for QBs coach
1/5/2013 1:30:53 PM
Even though I think Rivera deserved a 3rd season, for those of you who want him fired after 2 seasons, who would you have wanted us to bring in, and would you have been content with the new coach blowing 2 more seasons of Cam while learning to be an NFL head coach?
1/5/2013 2:40:49 PM
You don't have to have another guy picked out to be able to say that Ron Rivera is bad coach and mediocre on his BEST days. Personally though, I would have been quite content with Whisenhunt or Arians. In two seasons, I can't think of one game where I can legitimately say that Rivera and his staff have outcoached another sideline. However, I can think of quite a few times where it was obvious Rivera has been outcoached by another sideline. Of the top of my head, what is he like 2-12 in one score games? That is embarrassingly ridiculous. The KC lost should have meant an automatic axe for him.[Edited on January 5, 2013 at 3:36 PM. Reason : On the flipside, are you content to waste 2 more years of Cam with RR's mediocre coaching?]
1/5/2013 3:34:05 PM
if every coach with mediocre results after 2 years got fired, UNC would've fired Dean Smith and Duke would've fired Coach Kand who knows how good Jason Campbell could've been if he didn't get a new offensive coordinator for like 6 seasons straighttheres something to be said for building continuity and not blowing everything up every couple yearsthat said, if we dont make the playoffs next year, i think he should be goneunless theres some freak scenario where we go like 11-5 and somehow miss out like the Pats did a few years back with Cassel[Edited on January 5, 2013 at 3:43 PM.
