Why did I bother living by myself in the first place? I'm sure even a roommate would help.

I'm prob the only 26-year-old that wants to go back to a bunk bed situation.

i think a roomate would just keep me in my room more, awake at night, rather than my living room which is where i am now

my post copied from the dream thread:
Quote :
"2 dreams last night:

1- good one. dreamed that i was rock climbing at jackson hole. view was gorgeous and i somehow had the strength and endurance to do a full climb (like that'd happen irl ) i could hear birds, the wind, and everything that makes being outdoors wonderful. i could even smell the mountain flowers and earth. this was the type of dream that makes me happy that i have such a vivid imagination/dream ability.

2 - sucked big time. dreamed that my house was burning down and i was trapped in it. couldn't do anything to get out, completely surrounded by fire. somewhere in the back of my mind i knew it was a dream but i couldn't force myself to wake up. i could feel the heat as the flames came closer, could smell the furniture and fabrics burning, could even feel the stinging of smoke in my eyes. started coughing and choking. finally woke up feeling like my entire chest had constricted and was covered in sweat. needless to say i didn't go back to sleep. i may not sleep to night at all."

yeah like i'm sleeping tonight...

I go through bouts of insomnia and unfortunately I'm in one right now

I have prescription sleep aids, but they make me feel so tired the whole next day so I try not to take them. If I do take them, I have intense epic dreams.

Holy shit. And here I thought I was the only one who's had to deal with this shit lately.

I thought it had something to do with switching up my meds (went from regular Effexor, well generic, to name-brand Effexor XR, upped the dose by 75 mg to 225 total)...but I don't really know.

WTF, FML, ETC.

ok. copious amounts of alcohol did the trick. i was passed out by 2. tho i've got a raging headache, 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep was worth it.

I use a CPAP machine, and the fucker's been driving me nuts lately.

I've had severe insomnia almost continuously for years. I've seen specialists, psychiatrists, physicians, and everyone in between, and none can seem to figure out what's keeping me awake.

Most agree that it's related to my psychological shortcomings that have developed over the past 10 years, and the associated medicines required to keep me functional. However, I'm reluctant to change my current medications because I'm feeling better now than I have in years.

The doctors agree with not changing my medications, and treat the insomnia with more drugs. Ambien quit working, but Ambien CR has been doing a pretty good job. For severe periods of sleeplessness my doctor will give me a few doses of temazepam which knock me out like a sack of bricks. I'm usually out for 12-16 hours.

Other things that help me is to not drink any alcohol for at least 2 hours before I plan to sleep. Smoking certain things helps me relax and prepares my body to let Ambien CR do its work. Mashing up an Ambien CR and getting the full dose at once sometimes helps, but has led to hallucinations and other actions that I have no recollection of doing (ordering several pizzas and eating them all, walking around at night and waking up the next morning on a park bench)

On an average weeknight I get about 3-5 hours of sleep. On weekends I can sometimes get 7-8 hours, with occasional naps during the day.

i've started "journaling" at night when i can't sleep and it sometimes helps

it isn't really a journal so much as it is like a running list of thoughts that like won't get out of my head when i'm trying to fall asleep.

still wake up in the middle of the night though.

Oh yeah, I write a lot in the middle of the night. It's when the creative juice gets going. I'm just getting warmed up. I've been invited to read at an open mike tomorrow so I need to edit some old stuff or put together something new.
