They really were too, you could tell they were close and they could hear him in the woods. They could hear dogs barking and shit too. Even if he got away, they know his name, where his family lives, etc. He wont be able to avoid them forever and he's just going to make shit worse for himself. They're mad now too because he made them all look stupid.
