so, out of curiousity why is it that so many bartenders seem to use these kinds of terms (ie- sweetie, honey, baby, cutie, darlin) for so many people are the bar that are not their sweetie, honey, baby, cutie, or darlin? i've seen this happen aLOT and i'm really starting to wonder if there is some kind of reasoning behind it....

If the place is slammed, then you gotta wait. That's the premium you pay for being at the cool bar.

Anywhere else, just tip well and don't be a douche, and you'll generally get good service. If the service is not good, you've got a number of options: don't tip at all, tell the server to their face, tell their manager, and don't go there again.


Of course, some owners just suck at hiring. They take on these pretty (in an ordinary way) girls who can't make it through a shift without at least a dozen breaks to fight with their boyfriend/smoke/do blow/cry about breaking up with their boyfriend. Meanwhile, there's a 35 year-old mother of four holding shit down like a pro.

one of the best tips i ever got was after i told a table they were the most obnoxious assholes i ever had to deal with. $40 tip.

that's the best part about having a shitty job. you can treat people the same way they treat you. what's the worse that could happen? you get fired? so what, there's probably a bar/restaurant right down the street that will hire you just the same.

I don't agree with this at all. Personally, knowing from past experience, they're going to get like 30% (at least). Not to mention, the bartenders at our family bar would make even bigger tips with people who were way drunk. For example, this guy gave one of our bartenders $100 and argued with her saying it was $10.
