Every time I get into a discussion with conservatives liberals about this topic it pretty much boils down to some BS nonsense that someone (parents or spouse, CNN) shoved down their throat.

i used to be pretty liberal in college.i started working and i find myself becoming more and more conservative as time goes by.my mom has a friend who started his own business and is doing really well.he works 60-70 hour weeks.he pays about 40% in income tax alone.its discouraging :/[Edited on April 23, 2011 at 9:57 AM. ^^If you're more conservative, you're more conservative. However, the line about about becoming more conservative with age gets thrown around often enough that it's starting to wear a little thin (not to mention its condescension).I am curious about how your mom's friend pays 40% income tax when the highest federal rate is 35%. Adding state income tax can get you close to 40%, but that means your mom's friend takes no deductions/credits and does no tax planning.[Edited on April 23, 2011 at 11:11 AM. Reason : ]

yeah, it sounds like they just started a business and pay taxes without deductionsheck, turbotax business will do a decent job of reducing that tax rate (though i'd strongly suggest meeting with a real accountant and tax planner)

(this is joie) Wouldn't tax planning be equivalent to avoiding taxes?I'm not tryin to troll so don't berate me to much, I've said it before and I'll say it again....I m still on the fence with this stuff and could use a little more learnin It just seems to me that if you are having to plan your taxes....something seems off.Feel free to prove me wrong,I am not here to argue (although some of you seem to think that)And I am fully aware the highest tax bracket is 35 percent ( as well works on last dollar earned and not the whole amount) but what he had paid was closer to 38ish percent for whatever reason....maybe he was lyingAnd also-I was in no way trying to be condescending by saying I find myself more conservative with time-it's just the way I feel. And I don't understand the point of saying it's being used too often....so what? Does how often it's used really matter? It seems like you are insinuating thati don't really feel this way and am saying it because it's popular? (once again not bein mean or trying to troll so don't think I'm attack you or anything)But I would like to end this post in letting all of you know that I AM NOT set in any ideology...I kinda take it as it comes. And I'm honestly just curious about your thoughts and the fallacies of mine. I'm constantly re evaluating myself and listening to other people ( specifically those who think I'm dumb) is the best way to do it....
