A barely passable year 1.

Shit needs to look much different next year. I think it’s safe to assume DW and Holloman were our highest paid players and highest rated in the portal. They were misses. DW has caught a ton of flack but Holloman deserves every bit as much or more tbh. A complete missed evaluation. Not sure how the staff missed so badly on a dude with 3 years of Big 10 basketball on film. Arceneaux is up there too as a bust.

We touted all the NCAAT experience we had on this team. That didn’t do us any good in late game situations this year.

The shortcomings of the roster are well documented so I guess I won’t keep beating that dead horse. We say we’re serious about basketball. We say we have money to spend. We looked like a program that didn’t know what to do with their money and didn’t have a great plan last offseason. Please do better this time

This team reminds me so much of the next to last Gottfried team. So much less than the sum of its parts, in large part due to how the coach deployed the players. Not a coincidence that Copeland is my least favorite player since Rowan.

Ok so yeah. They didn’t actually watch film of Holloman. Makes sense! I mean, I didn’t watch Holloman film either. But I didn’t pay him 7 figures to be a starting PG so I didn’t think I needed to watch film. Dude straight up isn’t a PG. Got lucky that Q, as flawed as he is, was able to actually run the point for us. But Q was almost certainly not brought in to be stating PG and play 35 minutes/game. That’s what Holloman was brought in for.

I find it a little interesting that aside from the 2 McNeese guys, we brought in 0 players from mid majors. All of our big spends in the portal were P4 transfers. Seems like P4 guys should be more known quantities…but also seems like taking a chance on some ballers moving up from low and mid major would be a worthwhile. Like, the P4 transfers making lateral (at best) moves for more PT and/or more money…if Holloman or Arc were actually that good they’d have just stayed at their top 10 teams. Those feel like reclamation projects or something. Obviously P4 to P4 transfers work out just fine all the time, too. I guess we just made some bad evals in the portal regardless of where the dudes were coming from

Not terribly upset if he’s really gone. Struggled to motivate the team he put together. The best player was a hold over from Keatts. He coached like shit down the stretch and seemed to basically check out on the team. Tired of the theatrics and bullshit.

All I care about is the giving whatever coach the money and resources he needs to win. If it’s Wade or someone else, whatever…

Was 1-2 vs teams that didn’t make the ACCT. lost a conference game by 41 points and 2 others by 29 each. Team got worse as the season went on. Nothing he did as a coach his season struck me as him being some sort of coaching genius. Maybe this all sounds like sour grapes or copium or whatever but yeah I really don’t think it’s a big deal if he’s not our coach next year.

I get that and I get the appeal for Wade. I just don’t think this is some “burn it all down” moment if he leaves. I guess I’m just missing something. I don’t fully get the appeal of Wade. Or at least acting like this he is our one shot at ever being good or relevant again. I’m seeing wackos on Twitter and other message boards acting like this is some travesty if he leaves. Wade kinda seems like an asshole and I think we knew that when we hired him (not necessarily a bad thing as long as you’re winning). He didn’t actually do a good job coaching this year. He put together a roster that wasn’t cohesive. I just don’t think he’s done anything that most average to above average coaches couldn’t also do with the same investment.
