The USC QB was terrible. He was going into fetal position every time we blitzed. That's why they didnt score. We beat pitt because we got lucky. How many 4th and forevers did RW convert? Their QB also wasn't all that.
10/11/2009 7:02:44 PM
Wait, so Toney Baker had 8.1 ypc and we only ran him 9 times? That's stupid.
10/11/2009 7:05:46 PM
quality first post
10/11/2009 7:57:08 PM
^^ Baker has been money all season. He was averaging something like 5 ypc coming into Saturday. With that said, a good bit of that is probably attributable to our passing attack being so effective. It might sound easy to say "well shit just give to to Toney," but the defense would get wise to that in a hurry. I think we could live with him carrying it a bit more, but there has to be balance. Also, as mentioned before, our offense isn't the problem.[Edited on October 11, 2009 at 7:57 PM. Reason : ,]

The fact that Duke couldn't stop the run and that we stopped running the ball is absolutely mind boggling. We got ourselves into 3rd and long situations on multiple drives because of a refusal to run on first or second down.
10/11/2009 7:58:33 PM
I am declaring that the OC watched Duke destroy us and tried to do the same thing to Duke.Wasn't being objective and was arrogant. I know this because I know this.
10/11/2009 8:03:53 PM
^ LOL, what choice did he have? It was probably less arrogance and more the realization of "oh shit, our defense couldn't stop a powder-puff team, we're going to have to score every drive."
10/11/2009 8:10:20 PM
if you're getting 8.1 ypc you can score on every drive.
10/11/2009 8:27:11 PM
Yeah, and if you run it every single down you'll continue to get 8.1 ypc too.
10/11/2009 8:28:39 PM
We should have ran the ball more, I don't think anyone's saying that we would've maintained 8.1 ypc but running more would've gotten more consistent yardage overall and help setup the pass. That being said, TOB would have to have several more bad years in a row to lose credibility in my eyes. Mike Archer on the other hand...
10/11/2009 8:34:07 PM
Not running more was dumb. You do something until they prove they can stop it. In the second half, they comitted to taking away medium and deep routes, and we never tried running or passing underneath. That's what Duke was giving up, and we never took advantage. There's a good chance we score at the end of the first half to go up a TD if we run the ball. That would have made teh game very different.
10/11/2009 9:08:38 PM
You know, they kind of did stop it when it mattered. Remember the 3rd and 2 and 4th and 1 where Baker ran it back to back and we didn't convert? Not to take anything away from Baker, but I think the tremendous run game is more a product of a great pass game than us having amazing backs.
10/11/2009 9:13:28 PM
We should have ran in those situations but we should have ran out of the shotgun. Everyone in the stadium knew we were running when we came out in the I formation, you don't know what we're going to do when we're in the shotgun. Admittedly I'd rather we solve that problem by running some play action out of the I formation but I guess that's a bit too much to ask from the offense.
10/11/2009 9:20:46 PM
The only thing that really calls TOB's credibility into question is the continual employment of Archer. Maybe it's not a good idea to change your defensive coordinator mid-season and we'll just have to wait. Maybe it wouldn't make a difference with Archer.
10/12/2009 8:20:30 AM
^ I know it's not something that teams do regularly and I guess it's kind of a fucked up thing to do, but in my opinion replacing Archer midway through this season for our team is completely warranted after watching the last two performances we've seen on defense.I mean everybody in the stadium was calling for the DBs to press the receivers. We KNEW the pass was coming and we were helpless. This bend but don't break shit has broken. And to top it all of, this was against Duke in Carter Finley stadium.[Edited on October 12, 2009 at 8:58 AM. Reason : []

What's the best way to win if your defense sucks? Long-sustained drives that end in points. What did we do? Air-it-out and score in 9-10 plays or less drives or do 3-and-outs. We needed to run the ball more, it was apparent.I don't think TOB is on the hot-seat by any means, but I do think he'll feel a little warmth at the end of the season which will lead to him removing Archer to cool the flames, and realistically that's all I want.
10/12/2009 10:05:56 AM
keep in mind, when we hired Archer his Kentucky defense ranked 119/119 division 1-A teams.it shouldn't be a shock that we blow.[Edited on October 12, 2009 at 10:15 AM. Reason : .]

I wish Spaziani had just come down, that would've been sweet.
10/12/2009 10:39:58 AM
that 8.1ypc didn't mean a whole lot when we got stuffed on 4th and 1. I would argue that it probably hurt more to have the 70yrd, 1 play touchdown pass, and the kickoff return for a touchdown because that put our D right back out on the field with no chance to rest.in the scheme of things, i don't count those last two touchdowns, how many games does a ball hit an offensive player on a punt? 1 in 500. We had it twice in the same game when the other team only punted 2-3 times. It was really a 1 score game and we had actually figured out a way to stop them i thought.Let's get ready for BC!!

After sleeping on it for a few days, our outlook(although currently not so hot is not years away from being consistently credible).... why after the upheaval from this past Saturday you might ask: 1) Its not like we were a powerhouse before O'brien got here, we were sucking dry titties before he got here, and with An First team Soph at QB, and All American punt/kick returner and a possible top 25 recruiting class coming in, in 2010...the cupboard will not be as bare as we think. 2) We have the best football facilities, football fan support of any Division 1 or Division 1AA school in the state, which is why All-ACC talent wants to come play for us, and bowl games clamor to have us(if we can qualify for them-which will come in sooner then we think!) 3)We dont have THAT many missing pieces of the puzzle left for us to be clicking on all cylinders...yes we need more athletically skilled CB's, Safeties.....so right now id we are solid at 80% of our skilled positions, but the remaining 20% (secondary defense/special teams) is hurting... again our cupboard is only partly bare, O'brien will turn things around, and if he has to hire a new defensive coordinator believe me he prob stayed up the entire weekend putting together a list of candidates he could go after upon season's end 4) The penalties which have been ATROCIOUS the past 4 years at NCSU were few and far between this past Saturday, which means-THAT was worked on this past week, and if O'brien can change just that one aspect for us after a solid week's practice, believe me folks he will get our defense corrected! 5) You know how the past few years when we all just wanted an offense which could move the ball, well we HAVE one currently and def. for 2010!! As soon as we get the kinks out of our defense, get our guys studying more film, learning how to improve themselves individually= then the team defense will DRASTICALLY improve!! 6). It was ONE bad game, against an up and coming squad that all of us (myself included) took for granted, O'brien and our defense will improve. We our 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference but the interesting thing is, is that we are not out of the running of making a bowl game. Boston college is definitely going to try and exploit our secondary....and the best person to expect what they will throw at us is the guy who use to work there. Even though things were tough for us last week Pack, im not ashamed to have bought season tickets for the first time ever, we have the right man running the shit in O'brien and we could not ask for a better quality of leader then Russell Wilson. We can only go up from here and lets get started Saturday at BC! GO PACK!!
10/12/2009 4:48:31 PM
I'm not sure I trust the opinion of someone who said Duke would lose to NC Central and then win 49-14 or the same dude who said ECU would beat App State by 4 TDs when they nearly lost. That being said, many of you seem to forget that we are losing a ton of talent after this season.Young, Cash, Burgess, McKeen-all 4 DL starters goneBaker, Eugene-both RBs gone (this is one position I think we will be fine w/ Barnes/Washington)Larsen, Julian Williams-starting C and LG goneMichel-starting MLB goneClem Johnson-only secondary player worth a damn gone with Koyal George and Bobby Floyd And of course the possibility that Russell Wilson goes pro in the baseball draft

it's funny how we have streaks of years with top defense and no offenseor one of the best qb's in football, and no defensecan we just click one year with both????????????????????

yup. i think these were the same set of refs that did the FSU game last year at home here, and let FSU get away with about 6 or 7 key holding penalties that let them cruise through the same number of first downs they shouldn't have had.
10/12/2009 5:40:32 PM
But I remember reading somewhere that Baker can apply for an additional medical redshirt since his injury kept him out 2 years. As much of a competitor that Russell Wilson is, and how much he enjoys the campus life side of things at NCSU he is not heading anywhere at the end of this season, unless we somehow turn things around and end up making it to and winning the Atlantic Division. Russell is the type that likes to go out as a winner, and I cant see him being content with finishin 6-6 or 7-5 and getting us to the carquest bowl. He'll DEF. be coming back for one more season!! Especially with the field of talen he will have around him with the 2010 incoming class!
10/12/2009 5:51:28 PM
yeah. he DEFINITELY wants to come back to a shitty 2-10 team just so he can slay some hoes and risk getting injured instead of going pro in baseball and slaying hoes
10/12/2009 6:14:19 PM
^^ Pretty sure Baker is done after this season. I admire your optimism but Duke just hung 50 points on us in our own stadium.[Edited on October 12, 2009 at 6:20 PM. Reason : []

Yeah I think TOB is a good coach, but this was one of those WTF losses that the BC fans were talking about when he came here. I honestly didn't think it'd be an issue with the resources he has at NC State compared to BC, but this is definitely a WTF loss. Hopefully we can turn it around the rest of this season, but without any semblance of a secondary I'm not counting on it.[Edited on October 12, 2009 at 7:32 PM. Reason : []

can you at least make an attempt to be a decent troll?
10/12/2009 10:07:00 PM
We have 8 freshman/redshirt freshman in the secondary.I wonder what would happen if they were all seniors/redshirt seniors?Just gonna have to wait 3 more years.
10/12/2009 10:18:16 PM
its nothing to do with the players. the scheming wouldn't even be great if we had USC's players. Any patient offense with a good qb would still rip it apart. The offense is awful also. 3tds vs Duke? 4 turnovers? The special teams takes the cake. WE AREN"T GOOD AT ANYTHING BUT HAVING WILSON. this is year 3. We've seen enough. If you can't be decent without good talent, you won't be great with it. Any real program would have fired their coach today, but since its NC State, if we lose to UNC and don't make a bowl, bye.
10/12/2009 10:26:23 PM
why dont you just drive your world class eclipse and blow off some steam

10/13/2009 10:22:38 AM
I believe those are TOB's recruits missing tackles out there. By year 3 the CTC left us nothing excuse gets old.If TOB is going to stick by Archer when it's painfully evident to everybody just how bad our defensive schemes are (how many deep wide open passes did Duke connect on when it was 3rd down???) then it's MOC all over again. Keeping inept coordinators will end his tenure in Raleigh quickly.

Now I know I haven't posted anything in here, mainly because I think this dead horse has been beaten enough. But I'm really sick of seeing you post ridiculous shit thinking you are making some revelation that the rest of the wolfpack nation has been too dumb to realize. It's somewhat the fault of Wolfpack fans having sky high hopes at the beginning of the season (9-3!!!!!). But if you've listened to two big things that TOB has said, they have rang true so far:1. "We aren't a very good football team" 2. "We should be competitive in every game this season" (or something to that effect)Both of these statements that he said are true. This season has proven that we aren't good, we just aren't that good. But, we have been competitive in every game. We were competitive against USC, Wake, and even though we shat the bed against Duke (Who isn't the same program it was three years ago, even though it's "fucking Duke", they aren't a bad team, and they are very well coached), we were competitive during the majority of that game, until the 4th, or whenever the wheels fell off.Now that I took that bait....
10/13/2009 11:05:42 AM
let's face it we are gonna be state 'losers' this year. i forsee a very diff W against the tarholes this yearmaryland can show up and play they've proven. even bc has a squad with some fight in them easily capable of dismantling us.FSU's passing attack is going to torch our secondary to the ground.Vtech - let's just prepare for a moment of silence in the swamp for us.and clempson - they have the perfect storm of defense/offense mismatches to literally destroy us. they will shut down our passing game and use our special teams like a rag doll.so i'd vote to say the phrase "we have a decent shot of losing out" should also be on your list
10/13/2009 11:14:26 AM

Last post to mambagirl. Chuck did the least with the most talent. We went 7-5 in a year where we had 3 defensive linemen go in the first round of the draft. We constantly under-performed under Chuck. Every step forward was met my two steps backward of horrible penalties and overall lack of discipline. Stop talking like he was taking the team places because his only real success was having Philip here and getting guys to go high in the draft despite our team becoming worse with each successive year.
