.8g protein per kg bw is plenty for someone trying to lose weight

1-2g per kg bw is adequate for those looking to add mass

these 350g/day protein diets are ridiculous

Possible I guess, but unlikely. Protein has calories, but far less calories per gram than fat or carbs. And your body is less efficient at breaking down and using those calories than if they were coming from fat or carbs.

view protein as a building block and not an energy sources

why bother bringing more bricks(protein) to the build site if you don't have enough labor(fats/carbs) to assemble them into a structure(muscle)

It's not the protein in that baconator that makes you fat.

ran the entire lake today with the dog.

also speaking about processed foods, i had to quite eating anything with wheat flour (i'm allergic to it) in it which is pretty much everything that is processed but also includes breads, bagels, pastas, etc. having to stop eating processed foods and becoming more creative with side dishes and meals have really helped me. i noticed it in my muscle mass and my working out abilities. i'm definitely running better.

overall americans do eat a lot of protein but the reason they're fat is simple calories in vs calories out

Quote :

uhhh no

protein and carbs both have 4 calories per gram

fat has 9, so you're right with that one

yo Kiwi I'm not even trying to be mean here, I'm just being real

This whole thread is the perfect example of why you get constant shit on TWW.

You post a thread, and think you know what the fuck you're talking about because you did 2 seconds of internet research, and then argue with people who either nicely or not nicely prove that you don't know your ass from your elbow.

You argue or make excuses not to do what people have gone out of their way to tell you will work, and then you fucking act like we owe you something.

You are an absolute joke of a person, and you will fail in this, as you have failed in everything else, unless you shut the fuck up and LISTEN to people and stop acting like you KNOW EVERY GODDAMNED THING.

It's not as simple as that. The energy required by your stomach to digest protein is much higher than it is for carbs and fat. This is some of the rational behind eating high protein diets to facilitate weight loss.

A calorie is not just a calorie. Saying it is simply a matter of calories in vs. calories out is wrong too.

Depending on the source of calories, your body reacts dramatically different. Calories from protein and fat are more satiating than calories from carbs.

so the energy (aka calories) required to digest pro/cho/fat contributes to energy burned (aka calories out)

nowhere did I say that a calorie is just a calorie, I said IN VS OUT - there's a lot of stuff that goes along with it, but it can be simplified to in vs out

Don't get your panties in a wad... I am always going to provide input on topics that I am well versed in.

I am not trolling when I am correcting bad information. Your last two pieces of advice given in this thread are misguided.

A calorie is a measurement of energy. So yes, a calorie is a calorie. However, if you are trying to count calories for the sake of fat lass (which is pertinent to this thread), the macro-nutrient source of those calories is just as important as how many calories you take in.

Read more: http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/2008/02/25/the-science-of-fat-loss-why-a-calorie-isnt-always-a-calorie/

You are right, if someone is fat, then yes they should examine their diet. If they want an effective reduction in calories, they will reduce their carb in take.

great article. I read it about a year ago.

but no where did I say that a calorie is just a calorie. by no means am I recommending that she eat x calories of whatever she wants to put in her mouth. if you're eating the proper kind of calories in the proper amount, and expending more than that, then weight loss should ensue. I just shortened that to in vs out.

and the other piece of info you're referring to ("if you're just starting back I'd keep reps in the 10-12 range, maybe 3 sets") - is actually what packman said, I just quoted it

or if you're referring to when I said "bulk" - then yes, I used the wrong term. sorry, I had been throwing up all day and posted when I was slightly dehydrated and loopy

Yeah, but there are "N-word words" for everything.

You should be able to read normal words without feeling to compelled to blurt out the "N-word" version.

All the details about different types of calories and exercises are beside the point. A fatty is someone who is easily discouraged but could do a number of simple things to lose fat. The most user-friendly things they can do that will deliver the biggest payoff quickly is to control portion size (eat what you normally eat, just half) and count calories. Integrating light exercise (such as walking 45mins-1hour) is the next easiest step. Then, they can move on to more rigorous exercise and diet optimization.

Starting out heavy on exercise is just going to discourage the person quickly because they won't see results if they have not changed their diet, and they won't have the discipline to not overeat after exercise.

If you come at someone with some shit that is too hard to implement or is too big of a change, it is unlikely that their weight loss will succeed. Hence, the most practical thing to do is look for simple changes with big potential payoffs and do them, first. Good result/effort ratios naturally encourage people to progress in a weight loss program.

---

The gym is currently filled with fatties futilely exercising and lifting without doing anything to diet. The only change they will see is their absence from the gym some time around march

i thoroughly enjoyed earlier this week when these three fat girls came into the rec center in their leggings and running shorts and hairbands...

they stood in a cluster by the water fountains and ab area for literally 8 or 9 minutes looking around, pointing and then laughing to themselves, most likely because they didnt know what the fuck to do...

oh yeah, and if it hasn't been said already, no one is watching fatties. You are getting judged just as much as you would anywhere else. Most people don't have a problem helping noobs out if you ask.

Hot chicks in tight clothing, OTOH, are getting ogled
