No, it got backed over by the car because it was so out of it and unaware of its surroundings.

I mean, it reached "adulthood" and may have lived several years, but it basically walked under the wheel after motion started. Unfortunate!

We did not pay for specialty opossum neurology appointments. The assessment was based on relative behavior. You can believe me or not. There were mental and physical defects. Of course, there's not a single cause of "retardation". There are chromosomal abnormalities and there are physical injuries or oxygen deprivation with lingering effects. Not sure what was the case here.

How did we find the opossums? The mother got hit and killed on a public backroad with a full pouch (NOT by us). My dad was trying to clear the carcass out of the way and noticed movement. I think there were 8 or 9 babies in the pouch to begin with. We tried to bottle feed them and give them a heating pad and heat lamp. Only 3 survived, and one of those was the retarded one. Kept them several years and then let them go in a state park. Probably broke multiple laws, but oops!
