haha it's been 2 days since this thread but about 2 weeks since I've gotten for serious. I plan on mixing it up but it's not to do some in the home and not worry about being all bubblyjubbly in front of everyone... It's working for me thus far!

So how come this thread ballooned up so in just 2 days?

I guess there must have been users chiming in giving their advice on nutrition when they know not much about it, right?

This is a serious question....

Why am I always hungry? Is this just cause I'm a fat girl and fat people are always hungry or is it because I've cut my calories and added to my exercise. I mean I've been eating less unhealthy as I have been, and I've been having snacks between meals, but I just had dinner....chicken and rice and I'm hungry again! UGGGGGGGGGG.

if you've increased your activity then you're going to be more hungry because you're burning more calories than usual.

try eating a larger portion of protein with dinner. protein will help you stay full longer than, say, fruits/veggies/carbs.

also, i'm not really sure of the truthfulness of this - but if you're used to eating alot of food everyday, then your body is used to taking in that many calories and so it probably expects that many calories everyday. you'll probably be starving for a week until your body adjusts to getting less calories -- just a guess.

i agree with thumper. your body is just adjusting sawahash. give it about a week and you shouldn't feel so hungry.

I just had a .9 lb steak, processed corn and am drinking Coors Original... healthy as it gets I suppose.

I did play an hour or two of basketball this afternoon though.

@sawahash

perhaps try eating slower too, i found if i masticate more, i fill up more, just don't masticate too much or you'll go blind lose fiber...ok bad attempt at a joke but yea, i usually wolf food down and don't savor the flavor, but i try to slow it down and take my time, i often seperate my meals into different plates and take turns at each plate. My typical 400-500 calorie meal includes 3-4 different plates, as well as a glass of water and perhaps some tea. I find I am more hungry for substance than I am actual food, so if I can fill up on stuff, I'm satiated.

One amazing change I found which I thought would never happen with me because last time I lost weight I was always so damn hungry was to eat dinner between 4p and 6pm. After that I stop eating and I've not been hungry afterwards, have not even thought about food after that last meal. It's amazing because I was always so damn hungry all the time it drove me crazy!

I'm trying this time to take in a lot more protein for snacks and meals to keep me full longer.

Question; does protein powder help keep you full for a while? Also, I just bought GNC's multivitamin, anyone know if this is a good vitamin to take and such? I know that it's better than one-a-day...

I hate soda water. Tastes sour (it is basically carbonic acid). Actually, more bitter than sour.

i need to start going back to the gym

GET VASCULAR

http://physicalliving.com/kipping-pullups-vs-deadhang-pullups-where-do-we-draw-the-line-between-strict-deadhang-pullups-and-kipping-pullups/

i've never actually done a kipping one other than trying to actually climb something, but i tend to waggle on my regular pullups/chinups.

other than the calorie and other not so good aspects of hfcs and sugar the second worse thing about soda is the carbonation (for just carbonated water) it's rough on your teeth (acidic) and overall tends to dehydrate you a little more than it helps. still tasty though. then there is a minor effect on your bones.

overall though it's all very minor effects. and is much healthier than soda or other sweetened carbonated drinks.

^ you also become more dehydrated as the process of digestion uses a fair amount of water....

protein powder mixed with milk will keep you full longer than if you were mixing it with water. however, solid protein will keep you full longer than liquid protein.

Figured as much, I was thinking maybe I could replace a meal with a protein shake and not feel hungry a few minutes after.

it's really hard to stay full on a protein shake unless you have a modified tummy like me and even then, i get 2-3 hours until i'm hungry.

try a protein shake AND a piece of whole wheat toast with some peanut butter on it, or a cup of greek yogurt (which is the high protein, super-thick yogurt). that's a good lunch. add in a small leafy green salad with oil/vinegar and you've got a nice meal for under 500 calories.

I read an article about research on people who lost weight, and one group would weigh themselves daily at the same time every day, and the other didn't. The group that weighed themselves daily were able to keep the weight off.

I've been doing this and recording my weights and it does seem to help. Makes you more mindful of what you eat throughout the day.

And a friend of mine lost weight by eating slower-- he did it by switching to chopsticks. Forced him to eat slow.

I don't think eating slower is what made him lose weight. It's that when you do eat slower, you notice that you're full before you've devoured everything on your plate. If you eat fast, you can pound down a 1/2 lb. burger before you realize you were full 1/4 lb. into it.

Sweeet sylvershadow, good advice. I know when I was gaining I ignored the scale cause it made me depressed and I was already stressed to the max. This time I'll be better prepared and know when I'm heading to fattyfatty zone.

Why not? I have a shake in lieu of a meal/snack on a regular basis. Obviously, the muscle-building benefits are highest after a workout, but my Pure Protein shakes satisfy my dessert cravings (at just 110 calories, 1 gram of sugar and 22 grams of protein) AND they keep my hunger satisfied for about 3 hours. They rock!

^^^^ At my skinniest, I weighed myself every morning. Lately I hate looking at the scale, but it really does help keep you in check!

I've read that the reason you should have your protein shake < 20 minutes after a workout is that your body is already working to rebuild muscle, and if you supply it with easily digestible protein after a workout, it will be utilized more efficiently.

No idea if that's true or not, but it makes sense in my head.

But it's not detrimental to my health to have a protein shake, say, 5 hours after a workout, right?

I think weighing yourself daily helps as long as you can accept that you're going to have daily fluctuations from water weight/food/time of the month/whatever and not be like "OMG I gained two pounds today, I am not going to eat anything!" But some people will freak out over those things, and then it's probably not such a good idea.

I do this, too. Except I don't weigh myself every day and record it. I record my weight every Wednesday morning, as well as my measurements.. It has helped a lot. At first it was meh but now that it's been 2 months I can definitely see a change (and fluctuation around the holidays ).

There is a scale in one of the break rooms at work, so I weighed myself last night. I'm not unhappy with my weight, but I could stand to gain a few pounds. Too bad it is nearly impossible for me to do right now.

I'm cool with 2lb. fluctuations, not okay with the scale continuously going up.

I weigh myself every morning right when I wake up, naked and without food in the belly. I plan on keeping it that way.
