best player in the league was the only player to shoot below 50%...step your game up harden
8/2/2012 6:55:45 PM
Wow. Just wow.
8/2/2012 6:57:13 PM
83 point beatdown, suck it Nigeria
8/2/2012 6:57:15 PM
That game was icing on the cake of one of the most successful days ever for team USA at the Olympics. What a freaking day!
8/2/2012 7:03:23 PM
8/2/2012 7:04:05 PM
or underestimating the difference in men and womena good high school boys team would beat the US Women
8/2/2012 7:13:16 PM
I'm a bit sarcastic about the women's team, but Nigeria is horrible and has been the whole Olympics. They try to dribble straight from half court to the rim.

Where do yall rank Phelps among all time Olympians? Some would say he's the best ever due to his medal count, but I dunno. Maybe if he won gold medals in diving too he would be as versatile as some of the track guys
8/2/2012 8:25:57 PM
Who are some athletes who have medal counts close to what he has? And what events did they win them in?
8/2/2012 8:27:20 PM
Phelps is great, but I want to see someone win medals in completely different events. Like if Lebron also won the high jump and anchored the volleyball team with Blake Griffin. Give me some fucking variety.
8/2/2012 8:30:40 PM
its relatively easy to win multiple medals in a sport that you can compete in a dozen events
8/2/2012 8:30:42 PM
Right, to be to able to dominate the multiple disciplines for multiple games says something about the kind of athlete you areLooking at the list for most medals won there are a bunch of swimmers, gymnasts and runners. All of which get multiple cracks at medaling. How many Olympians have medaled in multiple sports? What did Jesse Owens compete in?
8/2/2012 8:39:33 PM
^^ I don't know about it being easy. But he definitely has more opportunities to medal. Especially compared to other sports. No question the greatest swimmer of all time and that's all that really matters.[Edited on August 2, 2012 at 8:41 PM. Reason : ]
8/2/2012 8:40:57 PM
8/2/2012 8:47:18 PM
I don't know enough about Olympic history, if he isn't the greatest he is on a pretty damn short list.
8/2/2012 8:47:29 PM
he's near the top of the listi just think like decathletes are more versatilethat shit is no joke, 10 events, from running, hurdles, javelin, long jump, etc
8/2/2012 8:52:19 PM
8/2/2012 9:03:23 PM
^16/20 golds. I know what you're saying. But its not like he won a bunch of bronze medals. In general I think cross sport and cross era comparisons are dumb. [Edited on August 2, 2012 at 9:21 PM. Reason : ][Edited on August 2, 2012 at 9:28 PM. Reason : ]
8/2/2012 9:20:14 PM
cross era comparisons have too many factors since world records are broken every olympics...like mark spitz might have been more dominant in swimming one olympics than phelps in 04, but in 08 phelps broke all his recordsbut you could argue if phelps is as good an olympian of the modern day as somebody like usain bolt, i guess
8/2/2012 9:24:19 PM
8/2/2012 11:43:12 PM
If you look strictly at the stats then Dan and Dave are the best Olympians ever.Treetwista will agree because he still reads sports illustrated for kids and tears out the trading card inserts
8/3/2012 12:55:22 AM
i dont remember if it was Dan or Dave, but one of them completely failed in the one Olympics they competed indid Arturo make a booboo? or did you venture out on your own with that stat error?
8/3/2012 1:00:15 AM
8/3/2012 1:05:05 AM
You totally missed my bait. You'd think as a child of the 90's you'd remember the biggest failed marketing campaign in sports history
8/3/2012 1:07:15 AM
It was the white dude that failed. Don't know if he was Dan or Dave. I think he was Dan.
8/3/2012 1:08:16 AM
They both failed in epic fashion. Except Dan did get to cover some events as a broadcaster[Edited on August 3, 2012 at 1:11 AM. Reason : a]
8/3/2012 1:11:07 AM
one of them actually won a couple medalsthats not complete failure
8/3/2012 1:11:41 AM
I know that you love to walk the line, but do you legitimately think that there is an argument to be made for Bolt over Phelps?
8/3/2012 1:41:41 AM
as far as olympic medals? obviously not, the numbers speak for themselvesas far as better olympic ATHLETES? absolutelyi respect swimming, it takes athleticism, pretty much all the muscles in your bodybut Bolt is basically the fastest man ever (until someone else comes along and breaks his world records)]
8/3/2012 1:43:28 AM
TT10get outta here
8/3/2012 1:47:07 AM
sorry, i guess winning half of your medals for doing 1/4 of a swim means you're the best athlete evercase closed[Edited on August 3, 2012 at 1:48 AM. Reason : just saying there is a case to be made]
8/3/2012 1:48:04 AM
there is a huge difference between Olympian and athleteone is quantifiable and the other isn'tyour original argument was Phelps v. Bolt as the greatest Olympian of all timeOF ALLTIME
8/3/2012 1:50:16 AM
my original argument put Carl Lewis and Jesse Owens ahead of Phelps, arguably, for versatilityI simply used Bolt as an example of how you can compare different sports, of the same era]
8/3/2012 1:51:19 AM
I'll admit to being wrong about the OF ALL TIME bitbut still, when you have a medal count and the goal of the Olympics is to win as many medals as possible, it's pretty easy to determine who is the greatest Olympian. past or present.[Edited on August 3, 2012 at 1:56 AM. Reason : I'm drunk and knew it was wrong when I typed it]
8/3/2012 1:54:37 AM
its medalsand Jesse Owens won 4/4 golds, then the Olympics were cancelled for 12 yearsso its not as black and white as how many medals you winwhat if somebody wins 2 medals a year while only competing in 2 events for 7 straight Olympics? is that not as good as winning a bunch of swimming relay races over 3 straight Olympics?[Edited on August 3, 2012 at 1:57 AM. Reason : i respect Phelps, just don't think he's the cut-and-dry GOAT]
8/3/2012 1:55:43 AM
i'm gonna need to get shoot's opinion on this one before making a decision
8/3/2012 1:57:02 AM
it kind of is thoughby your logic, there is no reason to keep track of which country wins the most medals
8/3/2012 1:57:59 AM
my argument isn't who is the Olympian who has won the most medalsits which Olympians "Olympic career" or abilities are the most impressive
8/3/2012 1:59:02 AM
what is the goal for every Olympian?
8/3/2012 2:00:44 AM
i'll continue this tomorrow cause i'm about to go to sleepbut the goal in the Olympics is obviously to win as many medals as possible, preferably Goldbut it doesn't mean you're the best Olympian ever just because you win the most medals, it means you won the most medalsis Emmitt Smith the best running back ever because he rushed for more yards than Sanders, Brown, Sayers, etc?GOOD NIGHT
8/3/2012 2:02:55 AM
there aren't medals awarded to running backs at the end of every seasonbeyond that, the NFL is nothing like the Olympics[Edited on August 3, 2012 at 2:13 AM. Reason : that and you basically made my argument for me]
8/3/2012 2:08:24 AM
Maybe Phelps could win gold medals in 100% of the events he competed in like Jesse owensotherwise he's Rafael palmeiro
8/3/2012 2:12:33 AM
Carl Lewis=Raphael Palmeiro. (juiced)
8/3/2012 2:27:02 AM
it's not surprising that TreeTwista10 would be willing to argue that a sprinter with 3 gold medals is "as good an olympian" as a swimmer with 16 gold medals.[Edited on August 3, 2012 at 3:45 AM. Reason : i guess that's not totally fair b/c bolt hasn't run yet, but even so it'd be 14 gold medals...]
8/3/2012 3:44:34 AM
I dunno about Bolt, but I'd put this guy in the ring with Phelpshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aleksandr_KarelinDude didn't get scored on for 6 years straight (which means he won an olympic gold without anyone even scoring a point against him).
8/3/2012 8:23:08 AM
Yah karelin is up there... Kid is pretty terrifying
