I don't know. Prob 10-15 per week. Maybe a little more sometimes. I don't know exactly, because I don't meter things out with a jigger or one of those Utah clickers...so I'm not sure exactly how heavy I'm pouring...but I'd say 15ish, +/-.

Maybe 2-3 drinks/week. The lowest it’s been since college, I’m sure. Not really an intentional choice. It just doesn’t fit my lifestyle like it used to.
1/9/2024 6:27:55 AM
Probably down to 4-8 drinks a month at this point. In 2019, I seriously reduced my overall alcohol intake. Shit will eventually catch up with you.
1/9/2024 12:01:57 PM
Greatly reduced. Most days I consume no alcohol. This is a struggle for me, though, because alcohol is a component of a lot of my culture and heritage. (We're from Wisconsin.) My wife has been mostly sober for 5 months now and I'm so proud of her.

being from Wisconsin comes with a 3 drink minimummy mom invited us over for cocktailsI told my parents we were quitting drinkingshe was like "Oh, that's okay. We've got beer and wine, too."
1/9/2024 1:45:06 PM
HahahaI had a roommate from Madison, WI back like 15-20 years ago. That dude subsisted on beer, sausage, and cheese.

I was born in Madison, Wisconsin. But the place my family is from -- Outagamie County -- is the heaviest drinking county in all of Wisconsin.Highest rate of binge drinking in the country. So I'm working to overcome cultural traditions AND the way I was raised by my parents. They started giving me alcohol when I was an early teenager and I was allowed beer or wine at meals starting at age 15/16. At 17 or 18 I could mix a cocktail but I wasn't allowed to leave the house afterwards.https://www.postcrescent.com/story/news/2021/06/07/alcohol-outagamie-calumet-counties-top-u-s-excessive-drinking/7510658002/

coming up on a year since my last update/bloodwork results.I've been drinking more than I did between march and october of last year when I really cut back, but it's still nowhere near as much as I had been in previous years and I fluctuate from month to month. I don't think it's been excessive, but an updated blood panel will tell the truth. gotta schedule an appointment...

I'm sober, BTW. I think this is what some of your habits look like.

@qntmfred What was your ALT/AST? I had out of normal, 88, ALT. Been monitoring it fairly closely since I saw the elevated number. Seen it high even with no drinking a couple of times. Think mine is more food than alcohol, but iirc with elevated AST means it's probably alcohol. My ALT will go back to normal in 1-2 months of eating well and longer with just slowing down the drinking.Have you had a fibrotest done?I didn't drink most of my 30s but started again in 2019. Mostly wine, then hard liquor then back to wine. I've been on a weekly beer kick lately. Felt beer was too carby and heavy, but feel way better the next day after two beers than half a bottle of wine.
10/12/2024 4:31:57 PM
ALT = 12AST = 15Go, Liver!

Have never developed a taste for alcohol

I did dry January last year. Dry January ended up turning into dry February, and March as well. I just got out of the habit of drinking really, and didn't really miss it. I stopped picking up beer at the store, stopped having wine on the rack at home, and the liquor on my bar just sat there collecting dust.I eventually started consuming alcohol again, but much less than before. Now, I may have one drink every couple of weeks? Maybe?I realized that I sleep so much better, my anxiety levels are down. I realized that a few drinks, even if there is no hangover, will leave me in a slightly depressed funk for about a day and a half. Abstaining certainly makes you realize how obsessed this country is with alcohol, and how many people seemingly incorporate it as a routine part of their lives.
10/14/2024 9:00:32 AM
forgot about that ^^for some reason at the end of January I decided I would not drink at all in February.[Edited on March 1, 2025 at 12:55 AM. Reason : maintaining one's sobriety during Trump's first full month back in office seems wise in retrospect]
3/1/2025 12:54:13 AM
In retrospect, i was doing pretty well Aug-Nov of 24 with alcohol consumption. As of late I've definitely regressed. Kinda easy when you dislike your job but feel stuck. At least I'm not smoking is what I keep telling myself
3/1/2025 2:02:37 AM
the number of drinks I've had in 2025 is in the single digitswe took it out of the house and we don't really drink anymore
3/6/2025 8:46:53 AM
If you don't count my work's All Hands week, it's probably averaged one-ish a week.
3/6/2025 10:28:00 AM
It's low cuz I'm a girl and I've got a bunch of shitty chronic illnesses.
6/2/2025 4:14:04 PM
I sat out most of Ramadan too. Picked back up for a couple weeks afterwards, but at the risk of jinxing myself I think I'm mostly done with drinking. At least on a regular basis at home.
6/10/2025 9:55:45 PM
they always come back.
6/10/2025 9:58:31 PM
lol
6/10/2025 10:01:38 PM
I stopped using cannabis after 20 years because I developed Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome. So now I'm drinking way, way more... used to be zero
6/14/2025 7:57:47 PM
Have you tried not being an addict
6/14/2025 8:31:08 PM
My last box of wine lasted 7 days which I thought was pretty good
6/14/2025 8:34:29 PM
Clearly, you thought the wine was pretty good. Was it a 3-liter or a 5-liter box?
6/15/2025 7:12:20 AM
I have maybe 3-5 drinks per month
6/15/2025 9:01:32 AM
^^^ are you saying a box of wine, like a few 750 mL bottles, or boxed wine, like Franzia?^ I'm getting down to those numbers. I think all of the diuretic effects, combined with IBS-like symptoms have made me really indifferent towards alcohol.
6/15/2025 5:51:00 PM
5L box
6/15/2025 6:30:16 PM
5L boxes have 34 glasses of wine, so if one lasted you 7 days, you're at about 5 glasses per day. Consider cutting back.
6/15/2025 9:29:36 PM
Just get a bigger glass so you're drinking less glasses of wine per day
6/15/2025 9:42:31 PM
Good idea!
6/16/2025 5:24:04 AM
Box I got Saturday is done. Get a new one tomorrow. No big whoop
6/17/2025 12:34:17 AM
What’s that 2 bottles of wine a nite?
6/17/2025 8:04:32 AM
I was drinking a ton, like 4-6 drinks a night, pretty much every night, for years.Got into an accident as a pedestrian last month where I was clipped by a car and ended up in the hospital. It was a bad scene but could have been much worse, happy to be alive.Anywho, in the past 30 days I only drank on one day, which was 3 or 4 white claws while hanging out at my moms.Feeling much better and while I'm not going to try complete sobriety, I am cutting back big time.
6/17/2025 9:10:42 AM
Still not drinking much. I rarely drink during the week, and may have a beer or two on the weekend.I have realized that alcohol really fucks with my sleep, and I have coke to value a good night's sleep in my old age. Also, if I don't sleep well, I won't feel like waking up early to go running. It's summer time, so if I don't running the morning, then I would need to exercise outside when it is balls hot.
6/17/2025 10:21:23 AM
Yea coke is great for sleep I hear.
6/17/2025 10:43:56 AM
*Come
6/17/2025 11:56:17 AM
Most nights 0-2 drinks (either one cocktail or two beers). Once a week I go to the bar for a couple of hours and have 4 beers. Probably averages out to around 10 a week. Not really a conscious choice, but hangovers hurt more than they used to and it's hard to manage a rambunctious toddler and not spill your old fashioned.Although I guess I have to revise the references to beer above, since my bloodwork indicates I have celiac disease. Endoscopy next week will confirm but, if so, no more beer for me. Yes I know they make gluten-free beers, I have tried them, I am not going to pay more money for worse beer when liquor and wine are right there.
6/17/2025 3:28:00 PM
Thats kinda a lot of drinking for someone our age…
6/17/2025 5:26:28 PM
^ perhaps. I'm not judging tho. I'm also not making excuses, however, I believe that GrumpyGOP lives in the DMV area like myself. I can attest to the fact that this is a very alcohol heavy region. It is infused into the culture here. From happy hours, to political debate viewings at bars, to unlimited boozy brunches....this region is obsessed with alcohol.[Edited on June 17, 2025 at 7:30 PM. 6/17/2025 7:29:38 PM
is 1.43 drinks per day really a lot for "someone our age"
6/17/2025 10:25:12 PM
We're not in our 20's lol
6/17/2025 11:07:02 PM
Is 1.43 per day a lot for someone in their 60s? Just seems like a reasonable number, assuming there are reasonable numbers greater than zero.[Edited on June 17, 2025 at 11:39 PM. Reason : .]
6/17/2025 11:37:57 PM
Drinking 43% of a second drink is kinda wasteful imo. Just make it an even 2, there are thirsty children in Africa
6/18/2025 3:39:37 AM
I hope 1.43 a day isn't "a lot".
