Yeah, that booing was ridiculous. And yes, recruits were there, because they were 4 rows in front of me.Synapse is right...it was at the beginning of half court sets. I remember one time when there was more than 25 seconds left and the clock, and there was booing. I saw quite a bit coming from the student sections behind the basket, too. As a student, I can fully say that way too many students are fucking retarded fans that loosely follow half of the season, and bitch about the stupidest crap. Other than the Duke/Carolina games, I would have no qualms about reducing the student section size, and selling those lower tickets day of to fans who aren't going to be dipshits.
12/20/2010 1:29:25 PM
yeah, supposedly 3 or 4 recruits were there, including Deandre Daniels.
12/20/2010 1:35:56 PM
Didn't see DeAndre, but he may have been sitting elsewhere. I was 4 rows back behind the bench, though, which is where they usually sit.

I was in the nosebleeds and did not boo, but I could understand some of the times people did. It really started when our PG would stand still dribbling the ball for 15 seconds or more, waiting for someone to get open, but no one moved at all. That is terrible when you're down 10+ points.I don't condone booing at your own team under any circumstance, but I definitely understood the urge with the way they played. I can take missed shots and poor performances, but a team that looked that lost and confused is just retarded.
12/20/2010 2:32:40 PM
I don't have a problem with fans booing the team, when the team is playing like heartless shit for that one possessionAnd I don't think thats going to turn off any potential recruits either. The recruits knew on that one possession we were playing like shit...maybe they were just exhausted, but still...that one possession was garbage]
12/20/2010 3:54:52 PM
Buying a ticket entitles you to boo or cheer whoever you want, whenever you want, almost however you want.

i wasnt there but i'll take your word for iton television, it was the loudest on that one possession, but some of the other booing seemed to be at the officials
12/20/2010 4:34:55 PM
if you must, save the booing for teams and players that get paid and perform like garbage. not for 18 year olds.

there was a solid 2 minute chorus of boos after the final whistle. i sat beside some very annoying zona fans too

I was really pissed at whoever was running the pep band yesterday. Every time Arizona would go on a run, and then there was a timeout, their fans way up in the 300's would start chanting "U of A", and our band just sat there for like 20 seconds to start playing. That, and I hate when the place is so quiet that you can clearly hear what the ref is saying to scorers table.
12/20/2010 5:55:04 PM
i'm already getting tired of seeing Harrow and Leslie's attitudes...i swear everytime they show'd them last night they were both frowning and looking dejected.if our whole team had an attitude like vandy or scott wood then we'd be more fun to watch.
12/20/2010 6:24:14 PM
Speaking of Vandy and Scott...they didn't really show it on TV, but after Scott went up for that dunk, Vandenberg put his hand on Scott's shoulder, then started laughing. Scott also had a grin going back to the huddle. Some people don't like that Scott is so emotionally loose during the game, but I think it's great.

^they both look like they enjoy themselves and are appreciative of the ability to be playing basketball...same w/ cj williams..he always puts forth alot of effort (though sometimes it sucks)

what makes you so sure it has nothing to do with not being able to dominate 5'6" white high school competition?and in our wins, excluding the one where we had to come back from a double digit deficit to win, they looked like they were having funand if they're not happy with their roles on the team...what would make them happier? 35 minutes a game each?further, how come Brown isn't affected by the curse of Lowe's attitude problems? Could it have anything with Brown being a year more mature than CJL and Harrow?[Edited on December 20, 2010 at 9:14 PM. Reason : .]

The thing about trying to draw conclusions based on what you perceive as players or coaches' inner thoughts is that it's 99% conjecture. You're taking a few shots of CJ looking pouty on the bench and running with it. No one knows what's going on there. Maybe dude is a bitch and Sid chewed him out for not making a play. Unless you're sitting in practice, on the bench and in the locker room, you're just talking out of your ass.You gotta keep your evaluations to what you actually know, and that's the 40 minutes we see them on the court. Anything beyond that and you're treading a very slippery slope.
12/20/2010 9:19:19 PM
speaking of conjecture, here comes a bunch of it---could be because Harrow and Leslie are a lot more raw, freestyling sort of players who arent especially comfortable playing within a system. They were the best players on their high school teams and their coaches let them take the ball and do whatever they wanted. Now that they are more role players than focal points, they are struggling to adapt to the system Sidney has in place. So either Sidney needs to loosen the reins a little or they are going to have to learn how to follow his rules.Brown does have a year under his belt playing in a military academy, so he's used to the structured system. He had problems with playing within a system coming out of high school (he said it himself), but playing a year at Hargrave taught him about accepting a role instead of being the superstar playmaker everytime he touched the ball.but again, I have no clue what goes through these kids minds, just what I could easily see happening
12/20/2010 9:20:58 PM
I think if Smith were healthy all year, we'd have more success, and therefore the freshmen accepting their roles as role players would be easier, as they'd see their roles contributing to more wins / more competitive games against high level talent (Cuse, Georgetown, Wisconsin, etc)Although honestly, Brown doesn't need to be a role player right now. He needs to be a leader, which is a lot to ask of a freshman, but still, he has the talent, and I think Lowe has more confidence in him to go out there and play his game]
12/20/2010 9:26:49 PM
I agree, Brown seems like a quiet, confident leader, which this team really needs right about now (especially the other two freshmen). I sure hope this team starts playing better when Tracy comes back, like everyone hopes we will, or it might be better to just shut ST down for a few months.[Edited on December 20, 2010 at 9:32 PM. 12/20/2010 9:31:36 PM
i think they are all playing hard but i just think a good attitude and good body language can go a long way to success and great teamwork
12/20/2010 9:40:29 PM
the freshmen are going to be fine. i mean, they're no john wall, but it's early, they'll deliver. bet.
12/20/2010 11:17:36 PM
12/20/2010 11:30:07 PM
^i'm fine with that too, I do think something "clicked" in CJ over the last couple of games, and I've been pretty happy with Harrow's effort all season. I just want to see them have more fun out there, some Harrow to CJL alley-oops, some high octane offense.and to be fair, I prefaced my post be saying its all conjecture, I have no clue whats going on in anyone's heads or in the locker room[Edited on December 21, 2010 at 8:57 AM. Reason : asdf]
12/21/2010 8:56:01 AM
CJ was pouty way more than just on the bench. He was pouty pretty much every time something didn't quite go the way he wanted on the floor (which was a lot in this game). He seemed genuinely frustrated for a lot of it, and I'm sure that didn't help him pull his game out of the gutter. I hope it's just a maturity issue, but we'll see.
12/21/2010 10:50:34 AM
I think CJ and Harrow (to a lesser extent) came into college with an ego. It is good for that ego to get deflated a little bit and understand that they are playing against players with the same talent level. Do you think Bob Knight or Coach K. would be worried about some freshmen being upset because they aren't making plays or getting benched?
12/21/2010 10:56:24 AM
I'd be pissed if I went 1-14 from the floor too. The shots just weren't falling.
12/21/2010 11:09:16 AM
^And I think that has a lot to do with us not practicing in our own stadium. We're not much more comfortable there than our opponents are. When the fans aren't at your back, it's gotta be pretty much playing on neutral ground.
12/21/2010 11:15:01 AM
It has more to do with us not having any sort of legitimate offensive system so our players were taking tough shots which leads to 1-14 shooting. Practicing at the RBC center or not practicing at the RBC center isn't the issue.
12/21/2010 11:17:16 AM
^Given that the 1-14 was primarily put backs and layups you must be retarded? Yes?
12/21/2010 11:19:28 AM
12/21/2010 11:47:20 AM
You should probably go back and watch a replay of the game.
12/21/2010 11:47:44 AM
yeah I was about to ask if he even watched the game, but I try not to respond to trolls.]
12/21/2010 11:50:17 AM
CJ Leslie (who is the player who went 1-14 in case you were wondering) was missing on putbacks and layups. This is a simple fact. Those shots are high percentage shots that any coach in the nation would be happy if their players were getting. He wasn't taking bad shots because of the offensive system HE WAS MISSING LAYUPS. You are really fucking dumb.
