trading for Mullens was a shrewd move by the front office. great mid-range shooter.
1/3/2012 8:03:46 PM
so, gotta be looking at a top-3 pick barring lottery shenanigans

lol @ Bobcats allowing a 107 ppg average through 5 games, though I guess that was skewed by that Miami beatdown
1/4/2012 10:08:38 AM
Just ordered a Mullens jersey. Haven't seen a big man with a shot this sweet since Primoz.

Byron fuckin Mullens

great win. thoughts on derrick brown? he does just about as little as matt carroll.
1/4/2012 11:34:32 PM
Yeah, he played a lot of minutes tonight and only shot 3 times (made 1). Very underwhelmed. At least Mullens has been a really nice surprise. Tyrus is supposedly back Friday. Could only help, especially with Magette's injuryGood game for the guards tonight. Augustin didn't shoot great, but 10 assists and 0 turnovers is incredible. Henderson's midrange shot was damn-near deadly. Looks like he's expanded his range considerably. He also had four steals.Nice win, but the Bobcats are still probably looking at a Top-5 pick. They need some serious help at SF. Can't believe I'm saying this, but Harrison Barnes would be a great fit.
1/5/2012 12:42:25 AM
It's no secret that DJ White and Boris Diaw have been our stars so far and that we've gotten solid play out of Augustin and Henderson like expected. The problem has been twofold:1) Maggette has been atrocious. We will be significantly better if this hamstring injury sidelines him for the forseeable future and we can play Brown instead. (or better yet Tyrus comes back from injury for god's sake).2) Our bench is absolutely miserable. Diop, Mullens*, Kemba, Biyombo**, and Carroll are all unplayable. Brown is our only asset off the bench. *I know you guys think Mullens has been good because he's shooting like Ray Allen on long jumpers but he's a silent killer because he doesn't create possessions. He doesn't have a single steal all year, weak rebounder, doesn't block shots, etc. Despite his "great" shooting he's still only at 56% which isn't that differentiating for a center and that will come down quick once he cools off from the perimeter. Even still I'll have to admit he shows some potential because he's young and after witnessing the bizarre early results from Spencer Hawes I'm not ready to give up on Mullens.** Biyombo is holding his own and showing potential. Just noting that he's not an NBA level rotation player yet. At least he hasn't been terrible like Kemba so far.

I think the reason Mullens is getting so much props is that we didn't expect ANYTHING from him. We all thought Byombo would give us hustle, defense, rebounding, etc, and he has ... but I honestly didn't think Mullens would get off the bench. Plus, the shots he's hitting consistently are deep 2pt jumpers, not dunks/put-backs like most centers. 56% from the floor might not be exceptional for centers, but considering his shot selection, it's pretty darn impressive.I went back and looked at Mullens scouting report in high school. I had forgot he was the #1 ranked center on Scout. Not that it means anything, just kinda interesting. http://ohiostate.scout.com/a.z?s=145&p=8&c=1&nid=1726782
1/6/2012 9:52:25 AM
Mullins true benefits won't be realized unless we have a 4 who can score from the low post. Mullens' ability to hit jumpers would draw his man out to the perimeter, making it much harder to double.

I've been impressed by Mullens this year
1/10/2012 7:43:02 PM
Mullens definitely has a good jumper but there's a reason he couldn't get any minutes on a big man starved okc squad. He's got a long way to go to be a viable rotation player in the nba. He's still really young though so I'm not counting him out for sure
1/10/2012 8:24:59 PM
That was an abortion, as per usual with this squad. On the plus side, Tree's boy Gannon totally wiped out with a tray of like three beers and nachos all over this asian couple. Needless to say, they were less than pleased.
1/10/2012 10:13:03 PM
Were they more pissed off about the beer and processed cheese spilled on them, or getting drenched in Gannon sweat?
1/10/2012 10:17:03 PM
Kemba is incapable of getting us into our offense because he doesn't have nba ballhandling skills yet.Every possession we end up with 6 seconds on the clock and him trying to force a shot or force a bad pass.If he has a future in the nba I think its off the ball as a backup sg like jamal Crawford . He just can't handle the ball.Tyrus is working his way back to form, diaw just so inconsistent from game to game. Good riddance

The best part was that disaster could very easily have been averted. We’re sitting about 6 rows up and one section over, so we had the perfect vantage point. Gannon comes back with the tray of beers and nachos and he’s walking over to deliver it when he catches his toe on a step. One of the beers slides off the tray and falls, and if he had cut his losses at this point he’d have been fine. The beer would have splashed harmlessly on the ground and he could easily have gone back and gotten another. But, being Gannon, he tries to be a hero, and moves the whole tray over to try and catch the errant beer. Well, of course he overcompensates, and suddenly the other two beers and the nachos are in the air as well. He has a look on his face of pure terror, like that gif of the Michigan punter with the bobbled snap. One beer lands square on the Asian dude’s shoulder, while the others splash around their feet, and the nachos hit the armrest at an angle so at least five people get sprayed with the cheese. Classic Gannon.

^ That's gotta be the best thing you've seen at a Bobcats game this year.I had an occurence at Game 4 of the playoffs vs the Magic (obviously)Im standing there at my seat before the beginning of the 4th quarter holding my final beer for the evening. About 6 rows up.Suddenly, a little blimp starts flying above my head with a coupon for like a free fucking Big Mac.My buddy beside me despite being a grown married man with a good job suddenly turns into a six year old wanting that coupon dropping near us and leaps out of his seat hiitting the bottom of my elbow.I didn't lose the beer, but the impact made my elbow pop up and since the beer was 100% full there was a little waterfall effect as a few oz of beer went up in an arc and landed directly on the bald head of a man in front of me.Luckily, my other friend was a fast thinker and took the free playoff shirt they were handing us on the way in and wiped the guys bald head quickly with the shirt. Crisis averted.
