I'm looking forward to our game against Miami. Going down there for a fellow NCSU alumnus bachelor party!

the season ending matchups make zero sense
2/28/2012 11:55:07 AM
I didn't realize UConn was already trying so hard to sneak into our conference...2 ACC games in back-to-back weeks? Does that happen frequently with non-conference opponents?
2/28/2012 11:58:33 AM
omg notre dame is joining the acc! look they have 3 games against acc teams!
2/28/2012 12:01:58 PM
ND isn't in a conference though, I wouldn't expect there to be any restrictions on them. But it surprises me a Big East team is able to schedule multiple ACC games.
2/28/2012 12:09:27 PM
didn't ecu try that every year under holtz?
2/28/2012 12:18:34 PM
2/28/2012 3:08:30 PM
idk. i think glennon is gonna be on fucking fire. and with moose back and amerson back there with our veteran secondary... 8-4 might be within our reach!baby steps!
2/28/2012 4:59:20 PM
I have complete faith that we can beat UNC again, and I don't think UVA will have as good of a year as they did last year. We should win at least one of those. I'm also feeling good about our chances vs Tennessee in the opener.8 wins should be the expectation, not the reach. Anything less is a step backwards after how last year ended. Wouldn't surprise me if we went 10-2 (losing only to FSU and Clemson), but equally wouldn't surprise me if we only won 6 (would just be very )
2/28/2012 7:03:38 PM
how's tennessee supposed to be this season? i don't know much them...
2/28/2012 7:16:15 PM
I'm hearing comparisons to the Arkansas team from two years ago. First couple years after a coaching change the team was pretty bad. 2012 is the third year with 20-24 starters back/ The defense gas improved each year and that will occur again this season and their passing game is going to be REALLY good. Running game sucks though. I think that Tennessee and NC State are on very even levels with a slight upside edge to UT if both teams perform at their best.
2/28/2012 7:42:10 PM
We ended last year on a much better note, so it really all comes down to the coaching staffs during the offseason and how well they keep their respective teams in shape.Tennessee had a strong win over Cincy just before they demolished us, but other than that had nothing going all season. Only other wins were Montana, Buffalo, Mid Tenn State, and had to go into overtime just to beat Vanderbilt.
2/28/2012 7:52:08 PM
Wish our bye was between miami and fsu instead of before the terps.
2/28/2012 8:03:46 PM
^^ Had key injuries happen after the Cincy game including the starting qb and best wr and that was when the meat grinder part of the schedule started up, Florida b4 Brantley injury, Georgia, Bama, South Carolina and Arkansas. Oh yeah, also LSU! Just sayin'.[Edited on February 28, 2012 at 8:33 PM. Reason : fgmnhn]

I hope we can stay healthy and start out 4-2.Wins over UConn, USA, Citadel. Split 50/50 games with UT and Miami. And likely lose to FSU.2nd half I would say wins over Mary, Wake, and BC. Split 50/50 games with UVA/UNC. Likely loss to Clemson. That puts at 8-4.
2/28/2012 11:03:52 PM
No more than 4 losses, I'm aiming at 2 losses. Will accept nothing less than the Championship game.Slightly more realistically, I'm hoping the players hold up and perform better under the new S&C coach.
2/29/2012 8:49:44 AM
I love that we don't play any ACC games early on. TOB's teams always suck at the start of the year and improve as it goes on.Glad to know we'll have our sea legs under us before we hit ACC play. I'm pissed about the Tenn game being on a Friday though that will completely ruin that trip as a lot of people that were planning on going are now going to back out.Definitely going to be going to that @Miami game, it'd be awesome if we were 4-0 going into it.This is the year Glennon has to prove himself for making us cut Russell Wilson[Edited on February 29, 2012 at 9:11 AM. 2/29/2012 9:11:25 AM
he didn't prove himself enough last year?
2/29/2012 9:28:23 AM
you think Glennon was better than Russell last year??? You're in the minority on that one.
2/29/2012 9:36:36 AM
yeah we should've stuck with RW, so we could win one more game last season, who cares that Glennon would've transferred and we wouldn't have anybody at all to play QB this season

2/29/2012 11:03:39 AM
face is trolling?
2/29/2012 11:14:55 AM
2/29/2012 11:41:13 AM
Okay so we would have won more games last year (potentially an ACC title) with RW, we're all on the same page.So this year Glennon has to play well and we have to win a lot of games for it to have been the right decision to keep Glennon and cut RW.If we win 7 games this year then it was obviously the wrong decision as everyone would rather have one good (potentially great) season and one bad one than two marginal ones.
2/29/2012 11:45:45 AM
it was the right decision. can't believe you're resorting to trolling about RW right now.
2/29/2012 11:48:09 AM
I don't like face, but it's hard to make a concrete statement like "it was the right decision". We were a win away from the ACC championship game his junior year. We didn't have a chance last year, which we would have with RW.To say that we need to make the championship this year or it was a bad decision might be harsh, but seems accurate.
2/29/2012 11:51:20 AM
With or without RW, we would not have won the ACC championship last year. It WAS the right decision. Move on.
2/29/2012 11:56:06 AM
how could you possibly say it was the right decision. As of right now it is questionable at best.Glennon had some moments last year and I definitely think he's got potential to play in the NFL due to his arm strength. But he was really bad at taking sacks, his reads were pretty questionable... and for several games he resorted to "dump it to the flats at all costs, never look downfield" mentality. So this is the year. We both admit that one season had to be sacrificed. If we keep RW then this season would have been sacrificed. If we keep Glennon then last season was sacrificed. The determining factor is will we be better this season with Glennon than we were last year with Russell.Like it or not, Glennon will ALWAYS be compared with RW because he held the program hostage and forced us to cut one of the best QB's in ACC history or else lose him. I'm not saying he did the wrong thing, he had every right to look out for his own best interest. But he has to take on the pressure and responsibility that comes with it now. He's got to win games, or it will go down as a monumental mistake for TOB, period.[Edited on February 29, 2012 at 12:05 PM. Reason : a]

^^^no way we were gonna make the championship last year.you think RW couldve helped in that 34-0 drubbing we took in Tallahassee?sure we probably dont get shut out but RW is not worth 34 extra points when their defense was on fire that day[Edited on February 29, 2012 at 11:59 AM. You guys are right. There is absolutely no way with RW we could have beaten BC or Wake on the road last year. I know this because Glennon played like complete dogshit in those games so I'm sure RW would have too!No chance we sneak past GT at home. Just absolutely no chance! You guys and your infinite wisdom. Like it or not, if RW had been here last year we had a great chance at winning the ACC championship.VT was pretty down last year, we would have had a chance against them whether you like it or not.
2/29/2012 12:02:09 PM
I like how you take all of the losses and say that RW would have made them winsbut leave out all the wins because if MG could win those then of course RW would have as well.
2/29/2012 12:03:39 PM
Well since we all concede that RW was significantly better than Glennon last season....And that Glennon was horrible in the Wake Forest game.... And that RW is one of the best QB's in ACC history....And that one of our biggest issues all season was our o-line not being talented enough to run block... which forced us to pass on every play... and we had a QB who was in love with taking sacks and wasn't mobile enough to run like the QB we kicked to the curb... It's not like I'm making a large stretch here to say we had a better chance at winning those games with RW as our QB. Hell, Glennon almost blew our 5 game win streak against UNC too. If it wasn't for our defense and RB's bailing his ass out that game, we'd now have nothing going at all for our football program besides our tiny chance of being competitive this season.
2/29/2012 12:08:48 PM
face crying? never thought i'd see the day
2/29/2012 12:15:05 PM
a little late for this trolling, isn't it? if RW was our qb last year, we'd probably be relying on brosius or taylor this season.glennon had a fine season, breaking several team and acc records. shut up.[Edited on February 29, 2012 at 12:16 PM. Reason : ]

If 8-5 is a sacrificed season then I'm okay with that.
2/29/2012 12:17:06 PM
^^ right, we had to sacrifice one season. We sacrificed last season, therefore Glennon and the rest of the team need to make it worth it by winning this season.^ Don't get me wrong 8-5 is not a BAD season, but we were never competitive to win the ACC last season. We sacrificed a chance to win the ACC for an 8-5 season??? No. We sacrificed it so that we could be good this season. Okay, so now what's wrong with being good this year? If we're not good then it was clearly the wrong move, right?[Edited on February 29, 2012 at 12:19 PM. Reason : a]

2/29/2012 12:21:08 PM
Except you are automatically assuming we would have been a serious contender to win the acc last year with RW here. Now, you've already laid out a plan as to HOW that could have happened, but that doesn't mean it absolutely would have happened. I think we may have won another game or two, but I still believe our defense was just too suspect in some of those losses to really challenge for an acc title.[Edited on February 29, 2012 at 12:23 PM. Just to go back to something discussed earlier: http://espn.go.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/37158/nc-state-and-the-fcsHD says that USA counts as an FCS team, so assuming we beat The Citadel and USA, we'll need 7 wins to go to a bowl. Hopefully, this isn't even an issue we have to think about. Also, face is an idiot.
2/29/2012 12:29:34 PM
Having RW back last year would have meant an automatic ACC Championship bid because his magic touch would have healed Mustafa Greene's foot and we would have had a real running game for the first half of the season.
2/29/2012 12:33:43 PM
Our defense was not too suspect to beat BC last season. Our defense shut BC down. Now they did suck against Wake and GT. So we have to hope that RW played well enough to win us one of those two games. It's hard to argue that we weren't better than 50/50 to win at least one of those games (particularly the Wake game where we got down big because Glennon couldn't get a first down).FSU I will grant that was obviously most likely a loss. FSU was way too good for us last year. UNC was an obvious win because Glennon did nothing and we still won. Clemson is an obvious win because Clemson played beyond awful in that game and was missing their best player. So what we have to consider is could RW have maintained our wins over Maryland (where Glennon played well against a horrendous team) and Virginia (dont remember much about this game except that it was one of our most boring games ever).I'm going out on a limb and saying RW had a really good chance at defeating the worst team in the ACC and probably would have beaten UVA too.

^^^^While I did get on board with predicting a 7-5 season earlier on this page, I think that's a very solid 7-5. USA and the Citadel will be cakewalks. UConn shouldn't be that much of a challenge even on the road. And of our potential ACC wins, BC and Wake are both in Raleigh, UMD is a shambles, and if we lose at Miami we could just as easily win against UT or UNC. Anything less than 7-5 would be *highly* disappointing, and I think our bowl bid is pretty safe.^Yeah, saw that yesterday. That is a problem, as all three of our starting LB from last year are now gone or ineligible.[Edited on February 29, 2012 at 12:46 PM. Reason : d]

I think proclaiming Citadel as a cakewalk is a little too optimistic. We'll be favored for sure but they have a rep of playing well against good teams. That could easily be a 10 point game or so that early in the season.
