Newton wasnt cut (with "cut" in football obviously meaning let go due to performance level), he was kicked off for stealing a laptop.

I usually hate them too, but thats a clear divide. Da'Rick wasnt cut by any means
8/27/2012 6:16:25 PM
^^well more accurately, he left to play baseball, but didn't withdraw from school. He couldn't commit to being at spring practice or that he'd play in the fall, so TOB named Glennon starter. When it became apparent that baseball wouldn't pan out, RW wanted to come back. TOB said sure, but you're coming back as the backup, he asked for a scholly release to transfer. It was never a decision of RW for one year or MG for two.It was a decision of maaaybe RW for one year, definitely MG for two, or maybe lose both. RW didn't decide to play his last season of football until late june of last year.

Wilson made 3 of the top 10 NFL preseason plays on the 6:30 Sportscenter.

I dont even want to talk about it anymore. I'm not the one who keeps bringing it up.We made a huge mistake. One of the biggest ones I've ever seen. It blew up on us.Okay. It's over. Let's move on. It will certainly be TOB's legacy when it's all said and done though. Our program simply isn't in good shape right now and there's always going to be a cloud of "what if" surrounding the program. It will grow larger as RW becomes the elite NFL QB that we all believe he will be.Ultimately, we'll never know what would have happened with another season of RW. But we DO know what's going to happen after we lose Glennon. We'll lose. A lot. That's not going to go over well with the fan base who is still pissed about us releasing arguably our best football player ever.I'm still a Russell Wilson fan and I'm going to cheer for him in the NFL. I don't care if there are some losers out there in our fan base who are re-directing their anger towards TOB at Russell Wilson. That doesn't matter to me.[Edited on August 27, 2012 at 9:25 PM. Without the miracle comeback against UMD, TOB gets fired last year. No need to put too much stock in some coach who is borderline.

coach with the greatest bowl game winning percentage in NCAA history = borderlinethanks

To be fair, BC's lousy fans dooming their teams to always slip to the worst possible bowl game share a lot of the credit. I mean, they had to create a rule just to guarantee a non-BCS BC team doesn't get skipped by every other bowl eligible ACC school.

funny, that's what I think about the rest of you. I explained a year ago why it was the wrong decision, and you guys got all huffy and said I was wrong. Now that you realize I was right, you just get huffy and say "we didn't know he'd be this good! it was impossible to know!". Just give it up already, everyone is tired of reading/posting about it.It doesn't make you a bad fan to admit that you and TOB were wrong and that it was a mistake to release Russell Wilson. It doesn't make me a bad fan to pull for him to do well in Seattle. And for the record, I think Glennon will be pretty good this year. Overall, our team is weak but we have the potential conference POY on both sides of the ball which will mask a lot of our deficiencies. However, they are both gone after this year and then we will not be any good. That much we can all see.

I support TOB's decision last year 100% but yet I also support RW's decision to transfer to a school that could take him to the NFL, and I support him in the NFL 100%. I'm now a bandwagon Seahawks fan, I admit it. We did well last season with Glennon, we will definitely do better this season than we would have done with Brosius or Stocker. People can say that RW would have taken us to the ACC Championship last year all they want, but there's no guarantee that would have happened. We would have had to go through Clemson and FSU to get there. In my opinion the best result we could have hoped for would have been another Champs or Chick-Fil-A Bowl. So I'm happy with the way things went, and I think everyone else should be too.[Edited on August 28, 2012 at 10:03 AM. Reason : .]

Final point. We would have played Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship.Clemson and FSU are in our division. The two division winners play each other.

Incorrect. If we beat BC and Wake then we are in the title game. We could also have lost one of those games if we beat FSU instead.Let's get the facts straight.Losing to BC and Wake cost us a spot in the ACC title game.
8/28/2012 5:12:16 PM
Our shitty injured D cost us the game against Wake. We were down 27-6 before the D finally started making stops and the O came alive. And then we lost 34-0 to FSU. I'd say it's a fairly big stretch to say that we'd have won both those games with RW. I don't remember much about the BC game other than we lost and it was an ugly, low scoring game (14-10, I think). But it's a stretch to say that having RW last year would have definitely put us in the ACCCG. Oh and...
8/28/2012 5:18:40 PM
I never said we DEFINITELY would have been in the championship game. It's pretty obvious that we'd have a significantly better chance though. The FSU game wasn't as lopsided as you think. Glennon simply couldn't get a first down so FSU started at the 50 yard line every possession. He averaged less than 4 yards per pass. That's almost not believable in college. We may not have won the game, but given that RW lit FSU both of the last two years, it's certainly possible.Glennon was awful again in the Wake game. The defense didn't play well that is true, but Wilson could have kept us in it. Glennon threw nothing but check down passes and took sacks like a champ for the first 3 quarters. When he finally started throwing the ball in the 4th quarter it worked, but it was too late by then. And please don't blame the VT game two years ago on Wilson. He had one bad INT in the back of the end zone before halftime. Other than that he played his ass off that game. We lost that game because of broken tackles, missed sacks, and awful special teams. It's just ridiculous to act like Wilson didn't have a good game. He was on the run on 95% of his passing plays. If you want to fault Wilson for a loss look at ECU. That one was his fault (though our defensive coordinator deserves some blame for not trying to stop ECU from scoring in the first quarter). If you want to fault TOB look at the loss to Clemson two years ago when he went against basic strategy and decided to punt instead of trying to win.If you want to fault the refs look at Maryland two years ago when they gave them a terrible first down and then refused to overrule it on instant replay. Now, can we move on? Can the ones of us who want to cheer for Russell do it? Can the ones of us who realistically point out that the program is moving in the wrong direction do it?Look, I don't even care what happens to us as long as we beat UNC every year. But there's no way TOB is going to survive this Russell Wilson fiasco. This was his Watergate moment. He's not going to be able to escape it when we start losing.

Oh i see it's fine for you guys to ramble on bashing Wilson but the second someone presents an intelligent opinion you can't take it.Look. The media is going to be all over this. They love a good sweetheart.Russell Wilson is going to be the new darling of the NFL. He's the 3rd round pick that no one has ever heard of who is likely going to be just as good as two of the most heralded rookie QB prospects the NFL has ever seen. The stories at first will be "How did Miami take Tannehill over this guy?" "How did everyone miss on him?" "Who knew a short QB could succeed?".JUST WAIT UNTIL THEY REALIZED WE RELEASED HIM. The media loves a story about a kid overcoming adversity. The storyline will be "After struggling to make his mark in baseball, Wilson attempted to return to little known NC State where he once attended because no one else thought he could play QB in Division 1. A program with almost no discernible football history where he had quietly spent three years accumulating awards and accomplishments. But to everyone's surprise NC state didn't even want him! He had to go elsewhere just to continue his football career. At the time it looked bleak for him ever to set foot in the NFL, after having been released from a middling football program in the ACC. But Wilson overcame adversity again!"Dude, I'm telling you. The Seahawks are slight favorites to win that (bad) division now. If he leads Seattle to the playoffs as a ROOKIE he's going to get a lot of attention. This is not going to play well, at all. Fortunately, we're probably going to be okay this year. But next year we look terrible and that's when it will all come to a boil.
8/28/2012 5:47:05 PM
Media is going to handle it exactly as they have already. Wilson left for baseball. Then he went to Wisconsin. Then they're going to compare his religious views to Tim Tebow, his scrambling to Tim Tebow, Tim Tebow's scambling to Tim Tebow's scrambling at Florida, Tim Tebow's batting average, and how well Tim Tebow might fare in MLB.

If we'd cut Philip Rivers so that Marcus Stone didn't transfer before his Sophomore year, a lot of you would change your tune. For whatever reason, Russell was just always vastly underappreciated here. The guy almost singlehandedly took an awful football program back to respectability and yet he gets mixed levels of appreciation.Yeah a lot of people think he was okay. But they also tried to blame countless games on him when he was the only reason we didn't lose most games 34-0 or 44-14 (Like Glennon did vs FSU and Cincinnati). The bottom line is if you compare the college career of Russell Wilson to Philip Rivers, Wilson did more with less. Rivers had the benefits of playing with great receivers and running backs. Wilson had to do most of it on his own.Rivers is remembered for being a great freshman (though we later learned a lot of that was Koren's doing) and an amazing senior season. His So. and Jr. seasons he was a solid but not spectacular QB.Wilson was pretty darn awesome every year even with no weapons at NC State. And then as a senior when he got comparable talent he was near flawless.Anyway, Glennon should be a very good college QB this year. I'm not criticizing Glennon. When Glennon played the first 2/3 of the season as a bad QB we were the worst team in the entire ACC. When he played the last 1/3 of the season as a good QB we were a pretty decent team. That means we have a chance this year. It also means we're going to stink again next year.
