I'd like to read this thoughbut yeah, i used to read a lot more...i could go through a 400-500 page novel in a week in my younger days...I just don't read as much nowadays...less free time, other distractionsin one sense its easier to just watch a movie nowadays...although ironically, the entire reason I even read Wiseguy is because I liked Goodfellas so much, and theres similar motives behind my desire to read Casino

I won't do 52 books in 52 weeks, but I will catalog what I've read so far this year.1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. currently readingYep, still It's interesting but I have to read it in doses.
5/19/2010 3:07:25 AM
Promise I'm not trying to be a dick herebut what is supposed to be the advantage of rushing through a bunch of shitty books? Why not spend good time with a couple of good ones and really get something out of it. IdkI dnl and this includes lbo
5/19/2010 9:22:22 AM
^ I agree but there's no reason you couldn't read 52 good books in 52 weeks.
5/19/2010 9:23:34 AM
It takes time to get through great books and to give them the thought they deserveyou could do it but you wouldn't get much out of it IMO. Too much white noise; need less books to really extract the value rather than just pass the narrative under your eyes
5/19/2010 9:25:46 AM
^^ I wish that were true but I just don't have the time . I love to read but also gravitate toward longer books it seems like. And with work and home improvement it's just not physically possible for me to get through that many books this year without skimming over them too fast. I keep reading this thread to see what other people are reading but I am probably going to be around 20 books this year and that is reading as often as I can.I guess maybe what you were getting at is that you could find plenty of good books that would allow one to reach the goal without reading subpar books or speed-reading, but I kind of have a set list of books (that continues to get backlogged haha) that I want to read.[Edited on May 19, 2010 at 9:35 AM. Reason : ]
5/19/2010 9:33:48 AM
Yeah I'll be surprised if I even reach 20 books to be honest. Too much life going on.
5/19/2010 9:34:54 AM
I hear you! I'm not on pace to hit 20 right now either, but my goal was to finish all the major house stuff I want to do by this summer which will leave me the second half of the year to play catch up (I tend to read a lot more in fall and winter anyway).
5/19/2010 9:36:42 AM
The reason I'm getting through these books really fast is because a lot of these books I read while I'm sitting on the beach or while I'm babysitting. When I'm not really in the frame of mind to read great works in literature but I'm in the mood to read a great story.

Glad I could help!I'm looking for some great modern space opera/dystopian/cyberpunk reading. I say modern because most of the cyberpunk genre was written from like 1975 to 1995. I'm looking for something written in the past ten years at least.
5/19/2010 4:17:02 PM
is it weird that i cant find the night watch series at my library? is it super obscure or something?
