Don't worry, if you are exercising, you are probably gaining muscle mass - which weighs more than fat. So chances are you look a lot better but don't weigh all that different.

I always think it's silly that people try and focus on how much they weigh instead of what they look like. Athletic women weigh more than your average woman, but they look better and toned. Why? Muscles and lean body mass

gooddoctor, I hope that's happening! I kind of figure it is because my clothes are more loose, a lot more actually. I'm going to stick with it, it took me a long time to gain it all so I'm sure it will take a long time to get it off.

I do eat roughly 1200 calories, I've been tracking it on a website to make sure of it. When I do cardio I burn at least 400 cals according to the machine after plugging in my weight and age. I don't know about strength training but I'm usually sore and out of breath and suuuuuuuper sweaty.

We'll see.... can't wait for it to melt away.

are people who buy organic thinking they're eating healthier or do they make the choice based on support for "local" foods?

i think a lot of it has to do with the idea of not harming the environment.

(ps i really dont try and purposely get organic, i dont really care that much,...but home grown, local, organic tomatoes.....DAYYYUM)

Kiwi you need to make sure you're taking in 1200 calories by the end of the day (even after you burn off X amount at the gym). you could be eating too little which is why you're not losing any weight.

also make sure your heart rate isnt too high or you won't burn off any fat. my trainer told me i should stick with 120-150 heart rate over 45 minutes to an hour on a machine to burn fat.

no fuel source is exclusive to a particular exercise, you're using both fat and glycogen regardless of HR...the HR zones are bogus...get a VO2 max test if you want to find out where you'll use more "fat" than glycogen for fuel, but you're never exclusively using one or the other during a sustained workout

now the first few seconds of any workout will be glycogen until the intensity tapers off

if you never burned off fat by keeping your HR so high, 100m sprinters would be fat asses instead of pure diesel

______

sodium isn't "bad" for you, just makes you a bit more bloated than normal, so long as you're not abusing it in huge amounts over the RDA or have genetic hypertension/HBP, I see no point in worrying about sodium intake

"Even though you burn more fat going slowly, you still burn a percentage of fat at much faster speeds or intensity. It all boils down to how much energy you expend in totality. For example, if you compare exercising at a slow rate that burns 60 percent fat and 40 percent glucose and a higher intensity or duration that burns only 30 percent fat and 70 percent glucose, you may still burn more fat at the higher intensity.

A typical example. Exercise (1) is the slower 60/40 mix and exercise (2) is the faster, 30/70 mix of fat and glucose fuel.

1. Walking on a treadmill for 30 minutes -- 180 calories used -- 108 calories of fat burned
2. Running on a treadmill for 30 minutes -- 400 calories used -- 120 calories of fat burned"

This is why people going slowly on treadmills and ellipticals are fatter than people working hard. If you want to go slow, you are going to have to be on there for much longer than 30-45 minutes.

Make sure you're heart rate isn't too high to burn off fat? This is silly.

You will actually burn more calories and fat if you utilize high intensity workouts because of EPOC (Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption.)

When you are doing work where you heart rate is significantly high, your body is forced to use anareobic energy pathways. It uses energy that does not require oxygen for its reaction. The waste component of this anaerobic energy is lactic acid.

In order to remove this lactic acid waste, oxygen is required to initiate the kreb cycle. This builds up an oxygen debt that will be balanced over the course of up to 36 hours post-workout. This re-balancing continues to burn calories, effectively upping your metabolism.

Keeping your heart rate low while you exercise maintains an aerobic energy pathway. This allows your body to directly use fat as energy. However once you finish working out, calorie consumption immediately drops back down to maintenance levels.

This is one of the reasons why high intensity interval training is more effective than long slow distance cardio at burning fat.

Yeah, when I'm on the elliptical I do HITT. Always have. I make sure my work outs are worth the suffering so I go all out, having kick ass music helps so much. When I get back from the gym my bf says I'm purple he should see me when I first get off the machine!

I think you're right about caloric intake, I want so badly to lose the weight that I'm cutting back a lot so even if I took in 1200 and burned 400 my body may keep the food I do eat stored. I'll try and work on this!

We made some really good oatmeal cookies with raisins, flax seed, smart balance and oatmeal, wow so good.

high intensity interval training is HIIT... basically you do one minute of extreme then 30 seconds of bringing the heart rate down, supposedly it burns calories better. Since I can't go all out the whole 40 minutes it's easier for me to be motivated if I get little breaks in between.

I dunno what HITT is.

you people never learn, as in the video i posted the people on earth who are the most healthy and longest living DO NOT EXERCISE
instead they get their "exercise" in daily activities which we instead use machines for
that includes walking to the store, doing chores with our hands instead of machines like mixing cake, and they eat healthy too

so i suggest if you want to be healthy and stay healthy the best way is to incorporate diet and exercise into your daily life and not as a separate or temporary program

Kind of like parking further away, taking stairs instead, not being lazy, we get it. In a world where it's almost impossible not to rely on technology having a place to do said exercise helps. S'all I'm saying.

I do agree on the plant based diet, working towards that everyday.

Anyone bought the gummy vitamins? I assume they're the same vitamins and would make taking vitamins much more enjoyable.

I'm going to Costco tonight and thinking about picking up a container of 5000 or so.

^yes, and they are so much better than the chewables.

pretty sure you can get them in sugar free too! i have issues taking any kind of pills (i can't swallow them, heh) so i used to buy chewables, but now just buy the gummies.

Hey I have a question...this might be really stupid...but just curious...

So they say 30 mins of cardio a day is something to aim for...now if you split those 30 mins up, say you do two 15 mins worth of aerobics do you lose anything as opposed to doing 30 mins all in one sweep?

it won't hurt you to split it up, but it's not really helping you to split it up either. you'll likely burn the same amount of calories regardless.

ultimately, only 15mins of cardio at a time (vs 30mins) isn't as good for your overall cardiovascular health.

$8 for 200 at Costco. I guess more like 100 since the serving is 2 gummies, but you get the idea.
