You can usually identify japanese people because they have large eyes and multicolored hair

They basically sit at a desk at the Board of Education translating documents, doing interpretation, dealing with ALTs when they call to complain about something, and setting up "cultural exchanges."

I found it hard to picture the castles, most were elevated and it was hard not to get those ugly bottom stones all in the picture.

I am so freakin jealous. I would love to go to and live in Japan. I have a serious Asian Persuasion. Please post more pics! I swear if I was single I would ditch Bumpkinville, USA and go there.

That sounds waaay too tempting. But I am making bank to watch the weather here and I speak all of five words of Japanese (which I will be correcting in the near future). I must say though that torii from your Kyoto picture is HUGE!!!

You just totally made my day. It's good to know that someone else has an appreciation for Japan without being condescending about it because I am some stupid American with googly eyes for the "Far East".

If I may ask, how "Americanized" have the people become in Japan? I was saddened when after talking to the only Japanese girl that I have ever met that I knew more about Japanese history and customs than she did.

It all depends where you are. I live out in the countryside so a lot of things are still done the traditional way. There's a sake store down the street from me that's been in operation since the 16th century

But the kids I teach, all they care about is fashion and McDonald's.

Have you ever been to and/or participated in any of the Shinto festivals?
