^^ your response is completely valid, however the problem is the entire 'global warming' debate is driven by political agenda and all facts say we have very little if anything to do with global warming. I guess liberals got fed up we wouldn't buy in to their global cooling crisis a few years ago so they'd try the other way.

How about the fact that this isn't the hottest year on record and we've been coming out of an ice age for hundreds of years.Or the fact that during the fall of the USSR many of the weather stations in siberia went down. In fact, between 1985-1995 the number of weather stations dropped from about 12000 to about 5500, many of these being cold-weather stations. Of course when you lost a lot of your cold weather stations the mean temperature is going to rise. Also, "global" climate is a myth. Sure some glaciers are melting right now but there are just as many advancing. Here's some more good stuff from the IPCC themselvesEver looked back to what they were saying 10-20 years ago before they started warming you about global warming? All the rave was global cooling. http://denisdutton.com/newsweek_coolingworld.pdf There's a link to a newsweek article about the "scientific concensus" was that the world is rapidly cooling. Their problem? Looking at too small a time scale. The earth has been here for what, 4 or 5 billion years now? They were looking at a time scale of about 100 years which is nothing for a temperature cycle. The best part is the closest match to the temperature cycles has shown to be solar cycles, surprise surprise. Do liberal alarmists want to look at this? No.. they discredit those scientists and call them out for hating the environment.

Not funny "ha-ha", funny queer. After thinking about it I am going to be kind and throw you a biscuit here.First of all, this is Chit Chat. You can expect much of the same responses that you have already seen calling more attention to your name than what you are trying to say. Secondly, your posts ooze with insipid bias. Perhaps if you had a shred of objectivity your point would not be dismissed outright by most. It doesn't help to always refer to "liberals" as if it is some kind of pejorative despite what Hannity and Rush would like for you to believe. There is a thread about this in TSB and although the matter is smoldering in the ashes of endless bickering feel free to toss on another log. [Edited on October 10, 2007 at 1:40 AM. 10/10/2007 1:35:24 AM
But Al Gore flies in a jet to preach about carbon credits so surely the entire concept of global warming being at all influenced by human actions is a myth, right? RIGHT!?!
10/10/2007 1:42:37 AM
I'm one of the closest things to an expert in climate change that TWW will ever see. Global warming is real but very misrepresented in the media. The fact that this was one of the hottest summers on record in NC has little to due with long term climate change and more to do with regional short-term variability in the weather. It is very important not to confuse short term variability with long-term trends. The closest thing to a reasonable assessment of climate change that's made it into the popular media recently is the ICPP report. A lot of people quote it, but very few actually read. I highly suggest that anyone interested in global climate change give it a look. It's not overly technical and takes about 2 hours to get through. The only problem with the IPCC report that is that it is a politically important document and, as a result, the authoring scientists don't commit to a lot of facts that they probably would commit to in a different forum. The big thing to take away from the scientific debate on climate change is that the climate is changing and that humans almost certainly have a hand in it. However, beyond that, there is very little scientific certainty about anything else including how global climate change will continue and what the effects will be. That's still a matter of ongoing research and the answers are far from certain. There are guess out there but they are just that, guesses. Reasonable conjecture does not science make.

What's funny is the graph he posted is from the IPCC too. If you do a little research you'll see that in the past few years they've decided they didn't like their margins of error for anything past the last 100 years so they reconstructed the graph to allow for more error, thus making it seem colder and giving the "hockey stick" graph posted. Also, notice the spike comes in to play when the siberian weather stations went down. And here's a solar cycle graph for you since you decided to post a CO2 graph. Here's the kicker though, the warmer the earth is, the more CO2 it produces. The ocean produces more CO2 than we as humans ever have or will. Of course CO2 is going to follow a trend in temperature. People look at it from the wrong end of cause-effect.
10/10/2007 1:52:58 AM
^ Don't assume it's a simple linear relation. You'll just end up looking foolish.
10/10/2007 1:59:45 AM
Oh I know, but don't assume its a simple linear relation between humans burning fossil fuels -> more co2 being released -> temperatures rising. There is no "general concensus" among scientists (either way) as the alarmists like to report and the facts just do not add up. Al Gore should be shot in the face for saying there is and trying to make us feel bad about burning energy while he uses 20x more electricity than the average american.
10/10/2007 2:02:11 AM
The first clue of failure was there being a global warming "debate" on Faux News.
10/10/2007 2:14:53 AM
the worst part of the whole thing is arguing about whats causing it. we know its happening and instead of arguing why, we just need to find better ways to deal with it/slow it down.
10/10/2007 2:20:16 AM
^How do you go about solving the problem if you don't know the root cause? That's like having cold like symptoms so you assume its a cold, taking benadryl and wondering why you're not getting better when you really have the flu. Kinda bad analogy but you get the picture.
10/10/2007 2:29:26 AM
no its like theres a house fire and the firefighters are debating if it was arson or electrical instead of rescuing the people inside/putting the fire out.We need to focus on ways to help people in dangerous parts of the world adapt to a changing planet and not add to the problem with excessive carbon even if that is not the primary cause. If you blow a dollar a day on something studpid and can't afford your 2000 mortgage payment are you going to leave that in the budget because its not the reason you can't pay your mortgage?
10/10/2007 2:41:15 AM
But the solution to the burning house is simple. You put water on fire, fire goes out. Problem with warming earth is not simple. You don't know why its warming, you can't stop the warming. Before you can solve the problem you have to diagnose.Better yet, we're probably going to find out that global warming is not caused by humans and we cannot stop it. We're going to figure out that we're going to have to adapt to a new climate just like every other species on earth has been doing for the last few billion years. If we can't some species will take over as dominant. The earth has been constantly changing for billions of years... it confuses me why people act like its been a constant temperature for so long now OMG IS CHANGING WTF DO WE DO AHHHHHHHH!!!
10/10/2007 3:09:38 AM
Keep polluting and stick our heads in the sand. That will solve everything.

Among scientists, there is very little debate about the fact that global warming is happening. All of the evidence suggests it is.The debate is political, because some people refuse to believe hard science.
10/10/2007 9:30:52 AM
I'm surprised Fox even acknowledged there was a debate global warming.
10/10/2007 9:36:44 AM
Well considering that half of the US has been in an exceptional drought for the last few months, it may lend some credence that our climate patterns are changing. For the last 5 years I have been able to wear shorts into December. That and the ice sheet at the poles have shrunk dramatically and several island nations are beginning to slip under the waves.[Edited on October 10, 2007 at 10:06 AM. ^^nobody is denying global warming isn't happening. The debate is over wether humans cause it or not. Also sounds like liberal media lives rent free in your skull. You cannot look at one part of the world and think it represents the whole. Part of Antarctica is melting yes but if I recall the west coast is larger than it has ever been recorded and the continent is gaining in mass in the central sections in the form of snow. Parts of Antarctica are cooling while other parts are melting. There is debate on wether Antarctica is actually shrinking or expanding right now. Some glaciers are advancing, greenland is melting, but other glaciers are advancing.
