hahah the poor troll feels insulted dude, that wasn't meant to insult anybody. it REALLY is a western thing, all these anxiety, add/adhd, depression, stress, etc medications.i would wager that less than 5% if eastern peoples use such medications. although i must say, the numbers are increasing.the reason behind this is that such disorders (even when severe and correctly diagnosed) are taboo in eastern societies, not to mention, some people don't believe in such disorders. but with time, they are becoming less and less taboo, and more and more acceptable. hence, more and more people are going to doctors when they have such issues.of course, such stuff being taboo is idiotic, and that's one extreme (eastern societies), but diagnosing everybody and his dog with anxiety, depression, adhd, etc is idiotic as well, and is the other extreme (western societies).

I am a non-functioning human being without Zoloft to control my panic disorder. I was having panic attacks just out of the blue on nearly a daily basis. It got to where I was afraid to leave the house because of the chance that I would have a panic attack out on the road while driving or on the job. Once the Zoloft took effect, I ceased having frequent panic attacks. I've had only 2 in the last 10 months or so.I don't think that it's entirely a Western phenomenon. One of my clients is from southern India. I once had a panic attack in her presence and she was very understanding because one of her sisters has suffered from severe panic attacks since she was a child. Then against there is a bit of a different between "anxiety" and a panic disorder.

they tried to put me on 3mg of klonopin a day AFTER i told the lady i had a history of substance abuse, and that I used to abuse benzos. that in itself is proof that they prescribe anti-panic drugs too much. i literally had to hell the lady NO, and she still wrote me the prescription for 60 instead of 90. psychiatrists (medication management, whatever) are bullshit. i prefer my psychotherapy lady once a week without meds over pills anyday. i look forward to it

Personally I see it as society just getting lazy.Parents too lazy to properly raise and discipline their child, so they "have ADHD". But in realize, they're just kids who don't have discipline. Parent would much rather feed their kid a pill, than properly raise the child. For adults I against see it as laziness. They're rather take a pill than work to overcome their issues.

only rarely am I anxious at all
11/23/2007 2:45:00 PM
My panic attacks were awful and sent me to the emergency room a few times before we finally figured out what was going on. I would lose feeling in my extremities and face, start shaking violently, a racing heart, hyperventilate, etc. And it would all be over nothing, I would be watching TV or driving to work. It's very Biological for most people and not psychiatric.Zoloft pretty much changed my life.[Edited on November 23, 2007 at 2:52 PM. Reason : .]

I'm not.[Edited on November 23, 2007 at 2:53 PM. Reason : I've had a couple panic attacks, but nothing warranting medication.]

Nope, not seizures. Very common symptoms of a genuine panic attack that strikes without a trigger."A panic attack is a response of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS). The most common symptoms may include trembling, dyspnea (shortness of breath), heart palpitations, chest pain (or chest tightness), sweating, nausea, dizziness (or slight vertigo), light-headedness, hyperventilation, paresthesias (tingling sensations), sensations of choking or smothering or derealization, or the feeling that nothing is real."-Wiki

They've been a lifesaver for me. Pretty much helped me to be at least marginally functional...and helped stabilize my emotional states, which used to really hit extremes. Sure, I missed the highs in the beginning, and they were even manic ones at times. But that's more than offset by the much less severe lows. Every now and then, I still experience them, but they are far less extreme and far less often. I come from a family of very anxious people.
11/23/2007 8:09:42 PM
drugs are for the weak and inferior
11/23/2007 8:11:47 PM
I mean I get anxious when I am stressed and have trouble focusing on anything but these deep seeded fear that I fucked up majorly and can't rest until I find a solution. I've also gone through times where I can't get myself to do anything and stop caring about anything. I've also felt the extreme highs where life couldn't get any more perfect.I also settled down without the help of drugs. The mind is a powerful thing!

i stopped taking all ssri/ssnri's when i started working at a pharmacy. it doesnt solve the cause of the problems, just alleviates the symptoms. Personally, I enjoy having emotions.
