i know this topic is a black hole for tww, and not a side of myself i typically go out of my way to talk about, but i saw this last night and it hit so close to home with me, i just wanted to share it in case anybody on here could relate.

I'm not religious, but it was a good skit with pretty well thought out meanings and whatnot.

it looked like a typical praise and worship skit to me. i'm not trying to be rude, i'm just saying i feel like i've seen a variation on this 3457893 times in my life. i don't see how it is that profound. isn't that scenario you described just the essence of religion?]
4/30/2008 9:47:24 PM
You wanna talk about anything in it? I mean, most of the stuff in it is laid out for you and not really open to many alternative interpretations.
4/30/2008 9:48:37 PM
that was deep. wow. and all at the same time
4/30/2008 9:49:14 PM

religion is just a means to sway the population into a certain train of thought...... iraq in recent times but can go back to the roman empire. Although Religion is for the common good, at its core its nothing else but a form of brainwashing.
4/30/2008 9:59:26 PM
i used to believe that too
4/30/2008 10:00:10 PM
It sounds like your standard 'born again' witnessing. The whole born again thing is great, but it doesn't really hit home with me because I never had to find my way back to God because I was never actually lost. Then again I am sure that there are those who would tell me differently.
4/30/2008 10:00:39 PM
i'm not sure it is for the common good necessarily

The human condition is to adapt with whats around you. You take on the same ideologies and for some, pick and choose from those around you. Im guessing, now that you're married and have a child, you surround yourself with church going people. In order to not feel left out, you conform to their practices. This isnt always the case, but for the vast majority it is.^ that again. Christianity spread significantly in Europe because the peasants had nothing to live for except for an after world in which they wouldnt suffer anymore. Al[Edited on April 30, 2008 at 10:05 PM. you know, i've been looking for some spirituality lately, and maybe even church if i dont find something else to do. but i dont wanna go to one where i watch plays of a fake jesus hooking a girl up with apples but i do need jesus
4/30/2008 10:07:18 PM
i think it was a pretty good video, a person going back to their roots in order to find and save themselves again

I miss church, but things are so different now. The only preacher that I have never known was arrested for secretly video taping women and the church that I grew up in has completely changed. New preacher, people left, new people came in, etc.Actually, now that I am married and have a child, I do not go to church. (I know that it is usually the other way around.) But my son does not have an immune system and churches are full of people who hug, shake hands, and visit one another, spreading all kinds of germs and illness. And my husband is not Christian and he is afraid that our son will be brainwashed if I take him to church.
4/30/2008 10:11:37 PM
When I was a kid my preacher shot himself in the head. Jesus totally should have been all holding his "shoot yourself in the head" demon back.
4/30/2008 10:14:10 PM
i thought he was Jesusnow i feel stupid
4/30/2008 10:14:24 PM
to be honest... i never really thought i'd say this on tww... but probably the most peaceful feeling i ever had in my life came when i decided that i was going to believe in god. (not trying to say i'm the greatest person ever, or that even you have to believe me, i didn't do this at a church and nor do i go to one). it was just a nice easy going feeling. nothing like this video.. nothing crazy or OMG wow guis, but just a calm collected feeling.the only feeling i can compare it to is like watching the end of the movie shawshank redemption for the first time when dufrane gets out of jail.[Edited on April 30, 2008 at 10:16 PM. i went through the opposite of like everyone on here...going from being extremely religious to being i guess just agnostic.
4/30/2008 10:17:39 PM
i think this is the first time i've ever seen one of these skits where a crucifix/resurrection wasn't involved. and i've seen a lot of them. and why has "awesome god (techno version)" not been embedded yet
4/30/2008 10:18:24 PM
yeh i'm not at all trying to say i'm a religious zealot. not even close. it's just an inside thing i guess. i'm glad i didn't have 20 yrs of somebody ever making me go to church to have to accept it and i'm glad i got to do it by my own choice. and i never once set foot in a church to do it.

4/30/2008 10:22:45 PM
I think of that skit as more of a physical representation of God always being there but letting people choose what they want out of life.I think it is so true how everything is given freely with God but when we start living for temptation that it seems easier to get to but in the end becomes this huge run around. I have lived through the run around a bit but I think Ken understands the run around a bit more than I do. He was a stellar atheist at one point in his life that is why his statements are deeper to me than just your average bible banger who has known Jesus their whole life.

I've never seen religion as something that releases individuals from responsibility. Quite the opposite. A cornerstone of Christianity (as I see it) is actually taking responsibility for your actions through confession and admission and taking responsibility for the people around you through service.
