just because you can't use it doesn't mean it's a ripoff

try clicking the 'lock' switch back and forth a total of ten times, then hold down the 'on button' (small circle in the middle) and the top of the larger circle (direct opposite of the 'off button') at the same time for 5 seconds, and it will reset.if you call apple, they will tell you to do that and charge you $25.00

if that doesn't work, it should eventually run out of battery power

that did the trick, thank you...i was holding the bottom (play/puase) and middle.

I have a 30gig ipod that someone got me a year and a half ago, thing's been through mild abuse and an insane amount of play time. Still works great, never locked up or anything. I literally just knocked on my end-table though.

only thing that ever stopped mine was sitting in a glass of mtn dew for an unknown period of time. other than that the dang thing was a beastthey're not a ripoff if you know how to use one. if you have a defect that SOMETIMES HAPPENS TO EVERY MANUFACTURER get it replaced, or stop breaking it.
