so I'm cleaning out my room (packing for a move) and I found an old paycheck from my job last summerits not quite a year old - can I still deposit this?if it turns out the check has been canceled will my bank charge me any sort of fee for trying?

I thought checks were good for a year. You could call the company and ask. They should know if the check is any good or not.

I lost one of my checks from State once, and when I got the new one they made me sign something saying if I ever found the old one I wouldn't try to deposit it. Not sure what would have happened if I actually did, though.

^^ why would they bother? you can cancel check #s so that they are worthless. its what you do if you lose a checkbook or had to send 2 big checks cause one got lost.

I don't know why. They just did. It's the state - maybe they were too lazy to cancel it.
