part of me says "you can't teach a kid not to be violent by beating him; that's part of how this mess got started"

the other part of me says "bullshit, pain is a helluva teacher, anyone who says violence never solves anything has obviously never tried it, and maybe that little shit needs to learn a hard lesson about how it feels when people bigger/stronger than you whip your ass."




for recalibrating him as a result of him beating his grandmother, i lean towards the latter.

Not for stealing her car and wreaking havoc around town tearing everything up, though. That would probably involve many, many, many afternoons and weekends of work to repay as much as possible everyone victimized by his actions...you know, a little introduction to the grown-up society and real-world consequences for your actions. he'd have plenty of time to reflect upon the cost of doing fun hood-rat stuff, so that after a couple of months when he finally got a free minute or two to relax and breathe, he'd be more inclined to not repeat the same bad decision.
