all rentals 3 day rentals and 99 cent late fees for every day after 3 days up until 10 days when you get charged for the movie
5/26/2008 9:27:03 PM
lolwut?
5/26/2008 9:27:40 PM
new policy starting tomorrow, raleigh and i think cary and maybe durham and chapel hill are test markets for it
5/26/2008 9:29:25 PM
they are losing too much money to netflix and redbox, and now they are gasping for revenue
5/26/2008 9:29:39 PM
no late fees not working, eh?
5/26/2008 9:30:10 PM
Digital distribution needs to become the norm and brick and mortar needs to go fuck off. Blockbuster can sell hardware like Circuit City.
5/26/2008 9:31:10 PM
the only positive thing is they are droppingg the rental price to 3.99but they are taking 4 days off rental time[Edited on May 26, 2008 at 9:31 PM. Reason : ..]
5/26/2008 9:31:13 PM
Yeah, and the best way to gasp for revenue is to alienate your customer base and make them not want to rent from you. [Edited on May 26, 2008 at 9:31 PM. Reason : ]

all the b&m movie places been hurting lately seems like
5/26/2008 9:31:52 PM
^ Nobody wants to drive to places when they can just download stuff for free.Mom + Pop grocery stores might make a comeback as well, or we might start seeing satellite walmarts and such.
5/26/2008 9:35:56 PM
^could be win
5/26/2008 9:36:48 PM
5/26/2008 9:53:15 PM
but with DRM which digital distribution will be heavily can actually restrict freedom more than thisas of right now i can rent a dvd and watch it in anything that plays a dvd as many times as i wantbut if i download a file they can restrict the number of times i watch it, or what medium i watch it onbut they can't do drm free because then people would just dl the movie once for the rental fee and copy it so its really a catch 22
5/26/2008 9:55:43 PM
5/26/2008 10:09:41 PM
I havent rented a movie in probably 5 years
5/26/2008 10:11:38 PM
true i was just saying that with digital distribution comes the risk of more draconian practices
5/26/2008 10:12:54 PM
5/26/2008 10:25:48 PM
i can't seem to find anything about this except for some shit mentioned about it in '05. Is there a link or did an employee fill you in?Just interested since I'm a total access customer who keeps the in store dvds for way too long
5/27/2008 1:23:05 AM
well i only know for a fact that its happening in raleighand the employees have been saying this shit for at least the last week i've been up here. its also printed on the bottom of my receipt

^^^ They will make bank if the economy gets worse. And with BP being the only gas company research solar cells, the Brits will own America by 2012, the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812, oddly enough.[Edited on May 27, 2008 at 1:25 AM. Reason : ^]
5/27/2008 1:25:26 AM
solar cells arent worth the troublenuclear works now
5/27/2008 1:26:11 AM
how can you compare b&m store to netflixi can at any time drive to BB and get a movie, w/ netflix i gotta plan 3 days aheadthats not even a comparisonthere are and will always be a huge chunk of people that will prefer a real placeunless of course on demand movies have much more choice, then b&m is finished
5/27/2008 1:26:40 AM
^^ When was the last time a nuclear reactor was built in the US?
5/27/2008 1:28:14 AM
i like walking around video stores and finding surprises that I can immediately watchlatefees are lame thoughah shit i got one i need to take back now
5/27/2008 1:33:11 AM
i dont remember the last time i took a video back on time, this will be a challenge
5/27/2008 1:36:23 AM
well with the current policy of a week its pretty easy but 3 days just sucks
5/27/2008 1:38:27 AM
personally i think the slowdown in the renting business is the lack of good moviesi often dont find 1 thing i want to watch when going to the store
5/27/2008 1:43:19 AM
^ That's true. It doesn't have to be one specific reason. In fact, it may be a perfect storm of a collusion of events that have led to a rather rapid decline of rentals.
5/27/2008 1:44:23 AM
^oh yeah, the internetnot downloading movies, but people entertain themselves differently nowadayssitting down for 2 hours to watch one movie is asking too much from alot of people now, they have way too many things they could rather do in that 2 hours, plus movies suck
5/27/2008 1:48:39 AM
The times we live in. It's craziness.
5/27/2008 1:49:44 AM
If I have to DRIVE to blockbuster to rent a new release, chances are I can DRIVE to Blue Ridge and watch the same movie on the big screen for 1/3 the price that blockbuster charges
5/27/2008 1:50:13 AM
^yeah but blue ridge charges 99 cents for every minute you stay in the theater after the movie endsjk, but yeah thats a good point
5/27/2008 1:51:43 AM
Blockbuster creates a social aspect to movie watching, too.I'm kinda boring. For me, one of the chillest things to do with friends is get some ice cream and then dick around in Blockbuster for a half hour picking out movies and being like, "OMG, remember when you picked that really bad movie! I'm so not letting you pick. AHA Just kidding. You can pick one, but we're watching it last so I can go to sleep then. AHA Just kidding again. I'll watch it with you. But seriously put Poison Ivy 2 back. There's something wrong with you..." And then you get to go through the little line and pick out your candies together.Fun![Edited on May 27, 2008 at 1:52 AM. I really believe we are getting to a point where new ideas/stories in movies are few and far between. Its been awhile since a truely good movie with an original idea/story has come out. Also, who the fuck still goes to Block Buster??Downloading FTW!I can get any movie I want, for free, in under 2 hours.Or Netflix. And no, its not the same as BB. You constantly have a stream of movies coming in. And as lazy as we are, there is no way someone is going to go to Block Buster that often to rent a movie on a "list"
5/27/2008 1:53:13 AM
^ i go to movie sites but they're low quality so if the movie is good i go to blockbusterbut thats rare, but still blockbuster is a fun place to go with friends, its way better than getting movies online, yuckyall need to take a science and technology class and see how technology is no longer our friend[Edited on May 27, 2008 at 2:03 AM. 5/27/2008 2:07:17 AM
^yes, the law of diminishing returns has definately caught up with technologywe need some type of renaissance to get out of this funk

^^You either have a shitty connection, or you were doing something wrong. At worst, I can get any movie I want in under 5hrs. But its usually around 2hrs.
