Oh, hi guys. How are you all doing? I've been away for a little while (I'm sure you all noticed).Anyway, the move went fine. I'm kind of settled here, and getting things in order......But I'm not really 'settled'. I've noticed a very strange phenomenon up here. I lay away at night thinking about this actually When I drive or walk around town, I've noticed that 9/10 black men have a white woman on their armorare married to a white womanorare walking around with a biracial toddlerdon't get me wrong, I have nothing against this. I was just weirded out. It's gone beyond the point of rebellious white college girls wanting to date a black guy. Gone beyond the point of making a racial statement. Gone beyond the point of people just 'being in love'. 9/10 is crazy.what gives? Is there just a lack of black women in this area?Craziness maaaan.'

My grandparents live in upstate NY along with all the family on my dad's side so up until I was like 18 I had gone up there every summer. I swear to God I only saw like 1 black person in a non-urban area. Where are you at specifically?
5/28/2008 10:58:16 PM
Vestalnear Endicott and Binghamton'bout 20 miles from Ithaca]
5/28/2008 10:58:46 PM
What's near there? I'm not familiar with Vestal... although it sounds like it should be ripe with womens.Ahh... Binghamton. Uh, not real sure about there. I've driven through it a couple times. I'm more familiar with Albany and the mountain area near Lake George. But it seems like the black people tend to stick more to the cities than the smaller towns up there so I assume it would be kinda like that near where you are too but I can't confirm. If you go into Binghamton I'm sure there are a lot of chocolate honeys to holler at though. I don't know how many people live in Vestal.[Edited on May 28, 2008 at 11:03 PM. Reason : me too]

5/28/2008 11:16:27 PM
dude- "The city of Binghamton" has a pretty large black population....
5/28/2008 11:16:56 PM
yeah, I'm convinced that's because of the registered college students at Binghamton Univ.....
5/28/2008 11:19:05 PM
I go to Utica and Rochester quite often and neither seem to have any black people. I might see a couple during an entire week in Utica.
5/28/2008 11:19:37 PM
i dunno- I think theres only maybe 20% black population at SUNY and about 30% of the City's total population-
5/28/2008 11:20:42 PM
my whole mom's side is from binghamton... she got her BA at SUNY binghamton and her sister still lives there...
5/28/2008 11:21:10 PM
^ are they black?
5/28/2008 11:26:02 PM
yeah, when i was up there in the sticks, one of my coworkers was black, and she was the only black person that some of them kids had ever seen.
5/28/2008 11:26:05 PM
Certainly the "stix" are a bit less diversified but damn near any city in NY has a pretty racially diverse population (ie: Binghamton, Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, etc)
5/28/2008 11:28:18 PM
any of those villages small towns near the river are 90%+ white. I can't remember the name of the village (yes, this was a village, they have those up in NY, village, town, city), it was about a 30 minute drive from binghamton...the country areas of NYS are pretty much white.Actually, it was kinda cool, everyone knows everyone, but there is no industry (one factory that has downsized), so the young people leave, if they can (college etc)[Edited on May 28, 2008 at 11:37 PM. besides having some pretty landscape in certain areas, I despise upstate NY and hope I never have to live there now. Im from their originally and my entire family still lives up there. such a depressing area. been there plenty on family visits an gotten more than my fair share of upstate haha.(most my family is in elmira, with some in bing., ithaca, horseheads, and Syracuse) hope it goes well for you though.[Edited on May 29, 2008 at 12:21 AM. Theres a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE difference between upstate NY (Bingh.Elmira, 'cuse, etc) as opposed to upstate NY (Lake George, Albany, Plattsburgh. Saratoga)I love the lake and the racetrack and that whole area but central and western NY are definitely the pitts
5/29/2008 12:33:25 AM
I used to stay in Corning about once or twice a year.
5/29/2008 12:43:23 AM
interesting

EMCE, this is not an isolated situation. I live in a small town in the Colorado mountains, population ~5,000. The whole town is basically just a huge neighborhood spread out over many miles. As I walk, bike, and fish all over town, I have seen nearly all of my neighbors at some point. Census says there are approximately 100 "blacks" in our town. I can honestly say that I've seen ~40 different black males and 5 different black females in the last two years. On a side note, we had a huge community yard sale last week and I went to 2 homes that had a black head of household (both had white wives). I got 4 pairs of nice basketball shorts for $3.00 and a new funky Kangol hat for $2.00.
5/29/2008 10:16:52 AM
yeah, that's the most sense that I can make of the situation.....that there just aren't any black females around.
5/29/2008 10:20:30 AM
Racial breakdown of my town.... 92.60% White, 1.71% Asian, 1.01% African American, 0.45% Native American, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.88% from other races, and 2.33% from two or more races.Basically, there are twice as many people from two or more races than there are A.A.s. Guessing most of them are under 18 too.
5/29/2008 10:25:21 AM
how is the job going ?
5/29/2008 10:30:32 AM
^^ here's what I'm looking at: * White Non-Hispanic (86.0%) * Chinese (3.5%) * Hispanic (2.4%) * Black (2.2%) * Asian Indian (1.9%) * Korean (1.7%) * Two or more races (1.2%) * Other race (1.0%) * Filipino (0.6%) * Other Asian (0.5%)^oh, I start on the 9th of next month. I'm excited. For now, I'm just busy unpacking and getting everything set up here.
5/29/2008 10:34:45 AM
Damn, I wish I could upload a pic of my coworkers family. He has a 8x11 pic of him (300 lb AA) and his wife (125 lb whitey) and their 3 mixed kids. We have gone out together and look funny as hell, his family plus mine (6'4 whitey, 5'4 Asian, mixed son). Good thing there are no rednecks around.
5/29/2008 10:45:44 AM
just wait till winter. you'll curse NY
5/29/2008 10:49:55 AM
Yeah, didn't that area get like 10 feet at one time last winter???
5/29/2008 10:51:47 AM
the winters aren't pretty, so I hear. But I'm prepared for and dreading them already everyone is telling me that this area's winters last a while, but they're not as bad as other areas close by....as in, we don't really get the lake effect hereI guess I'll see soon enough thoughFYI, very few houses here have a/c just because it's not needed, haha
5/29/2008 10:58:20 AM
yeah my g-ma has received 4-5 even 6 FEET of snow in 1 storm
5/29/2008 11:00:34 AM
I never thought you'd actually make the small-town move.
5/29/2008 11:02:22 AM
they made me an offer I couldn't refuse
5/29/2008 11:04:12 AM
I lived most of my life in Newburgh, NY... which is only about 1.5 hrs north of Manhattan. And there the winter weather started in late October and ran through April. I remember getting 3 ft of snow in late March once. It's pretty crazy to watch the weather channel and they tell you tomorrow's high temp. will be 6. LOL.

I'd rather shoot myself in the penis with a 12 gauge shotgun than move to a small town.
5/29/2008 11:21:24 AM
5/29/2008 11:28:20 AM
yeah... ever been on a 130 mph snow mobile... that shit beats the hell out of a jetski.
5/29/2008 11:32:04 AM
I grew up in the suburbs of Syracuse, and later, in the city proper. The city itself had plenty of black people (my high school was about 50/50), but once you're outside the city limits, there are NONE.
