So I'm trying to take my boy on a date tonight since he always does stuff for me...is Bahama Breeze any good...I've never been. Any other suggestion for good date spots that arent super expensive
7/2/2008 12:02:59 PM
I actually like it for a casual place. I like the Aruba Red beer and the apps.. but I wouldn't go on a Fri/Sat evening... mid-week should be alright though.
7/2/2008 12:03:55 PM

7/2/2008 12:05:06 PM

I have had some really bad service at Bahama breeze and their food is not that great.
7/2/2008 12:13:31 PM
yes its good i used to deliver fire wood to them in high school i would suggest the mahi mahi. its the shit. best wood fired grill that side of town
7/2/2008 12:14:32 PM
I try to avoid chain restaurants if i really want a special date. or in general for that matter.
7/2/2008 12:15:28 PM
I love the Chicken Santiago. Mmmmm
7/2/2008 12:15:34 PM
^^Yeah, there are a ton of decent restaurants in Raleigh, don't take the girl to a place with some tool in a Hawaiian shirt serving your food.[Edited on July 2, 2008 at 12:17 PM. Reason : fd]
7/2/2008 12:16:59 PM
enoteca vin, duck and dumplingirregardless cafehumble pie18 seaboardj. betski'sjust to name a few...
7/2/2008 12:18:33 PM
go to Five Star....you will like it. much better than PF Changs IMO since Five Star isnt a chain. the atmosphere is freaking awesome.i personally hate Bahama Breeze...i hate the food and i hate the atmosphere. esp. in the summer time. every thug in town loves Bahama Breeze...or used to. Since i hate that place and very very rarely visit the establishment i couldnt tell you if the clientele has changed or not
7/2/2008 12:19:51 PM
Take him to a steakhouse.Any male with his balls still attached would rather have a real plate of food than some over priced chicken breast covered in some diced tomatoes and cilantro at Bahama Breeze. ]
7/2/2008 12:20:01 PM
The Rockford is great for something low key and casual- not expensive at all. It's pretty small though- and I've only been on a weeknight so I can't say much about the crowds. The service was great when I went (I had heard otherwise from some people before going, but our server was outstanding). And it's close to many bars and nightspots if you're interested in that sort of thing after dinner
7/2/2008 12:29:17 PM
If you feel like driving to Durham, take him to a place called Firebirds.
7/2/2008 12:37:04 PM
I second the Rockford as well. On the weekends, once the dinner bell rings, it gets packed. But overall the food is creative and atmosphere is nice but a little small. ~$6-11 per entree.

enoteca vin, duck and dumplingirregardless cafehumble pie18 seaboardj. betski'sFive StarAll very good choices - I would also add - Riviera, Cafe Luna, Sullivans, Cafe Tiramisu, and Pooles - my favorite, a bit pricey, but amazing mac and cheese...Fuck the chain nonsense - do you really want to take you s/o to the mall for something special?[Edited on July 2, 2008 at 12:55 PM. 7/2/2008 12:55:28 PM
Rockford is always nice for a good starting point.
7/2/2008 1:12:29 PM
never been to a bahama breeze. is it as corny as it sounds?
7/2/2008 1:14:29 PM
Yes.
7/2/2008 1:14:55 PM
^^^^EXACTLY. I loathe chain restaurants. I hate Bahama Breeze. It's so over-rated. Rockford is good if you want to have a lot of alone time and you have a lot to talk about - the service is slow, but it's suppose to be like that. Enoteca Vin is good, especially if you like wine. It can get pricey though. Irregardless is always a great choice, as is Five Star.[Edited on July 2, 2008 at 1:17 PM. Reason : chain gang]
7/2/2008 1:17:13 PM
7/2/2008 1:29:26 PM
take him to an expensive placelike the gas station/rim tap
7/2/2008 1:34:14 PM
Bahama Breeze is good if you're a fake white broad or a negro. So you'll love it.
7/2/2008 1:40:32 PM
7/2/2008 2:20:11 PM
7/2/2008 2:20:13 PM
^ I agree. I dunno if the chef changed or they switched their food provider, but it definatly hasnt been as good in the past few years.
7/2/2008 2:21:24 PM
i still think its better than pf chang's though
7/2/2008 2:22:44 PM
5 star is still pretty damn good
7/2/2008 2:30:40 PM
last time i went to five star it was really fucking loud
7/2/2008 2:36:26 PM
7/2/2008 2:53:11 PM
the old owner stepped away for awhile and they kind of fell offthe new guy sucked it upwell the old one came back and got pissed with what was going on, apparently he didnt leave ANY type of way to tell them how to go on without him.anyways, its back to being great now...just make sure you go soon enough there arent any parties going on.and tip the bar staff well, especially Stevo my roomate, the buff white guy...tell em John sent you and they'll fix you right up.its back to being baller
7/2/2008 4:50:31 PM
Oh, Rockford, how I love thee.
7/2/2008 4:54:29 PM
the chicken isnt the only thing blackened there on weekends
7/2/2008 4:58:49 PM
^^^cool..good to know
7/3/2008 8:21:40 AM
Bahama Breeze pissed me off when they jacked the prices on their menu and got rid of anything that was worthwhile on it.Their drinks are good but only if you have a DD.
7/3/2008 8:27:07 AM
7/3/2008 8:31:40 AM
Or you could go to Firebirds Rocky Mtn Grill at North Hills in Raleigh.... or any other city
7/3/2008 8:54:47 AM
cafe luna is absolutely delicious, and the owner is super nice.
7/3/2008 1:02:30 PM
try the tangerine cafe in Caryhttp://www.tangerinecafecary.com/

7/4/2008 7:51:45 AM
^ when chris would cook the food was awesome, and his dad didn't by 5 star until after the Savannah debacle. If Don was cooking ewwwww. Food at 5 star has really stepped up in the past year though. I'll add Humble Pie and I have heard The Mint is good. Why in the world do people like Cafe Luna?
7/4/2008 10:07:55 AM
as far as chains go, firebird's is pretty good. and ted's montana grill.but probably pricier than it should be. yes peoples, bobbydigital made a post that wasn't hating on chain restaurants.
7/4/2008 10:11:53 AM
Maggiano's
7/4/2008 10:13:39 AM
I tried to go to Five Star once a few months ago and it looked like the windows were boarded upI thought it had shut down or something
7/4/2008 10:21:32 AM
Bahama Breeze = Tangarine Cafe is good, but not really a special date type of place.[Edited on July 4, 2008 at 10:29 AM. Reason : ]
