^^ hagood luck with those 1500 lbs of lead acid batteries you are going to need
7/8/2008 2:46:44 PM
i've abandoned my boy![Edited on July 8, 2008 at 2:48 PM. Reason : actually you won't need 1500lbs, the new batteries MIT has come up with has changed things]
7/8/2008 2:47:02 PM
^^well its worth it, and you'll take out all the engine and most of the parts so the final weight will still be significantly lowerbesides its gas freealso im hoping that there will be better batteries and that the EV trend will make them less expensive.[Edited on July 8, 2008 at 2:55 PM. well not if you're thinking just gas savingsif you're looking for a new used car and were planning on spending 5 - 10 Kthen why not just get a shell for a few hundredand spend 8K converting it, then you'll pay the difference in gas savings within a year or twoand you're doing the right thing
7/8/2008 2:57:51 PM
GO USA
7/8/2008 2:59:33 PM
I get about 16mpg but I my job is only 2 miles from home Thank God this wasn't going on in the summer of '05 when I worked in RTP every day. Gas was a little over $2 a gallon back then.
7/8/2008 3:00:43 PM
re: 1500 lbsi know nothing about the amount of weight it would take or any of that shit, or how much weight the car would losebut the factoid i heard was that each 100lbs of extra "trunk weight" accounted for 2mpg lost... so i dont know (what DO i know haha) if that means that it only takes away if its over designed weightbut if you take that literally, the extra 1500 lbs would take away 30mpg,,, what would the hybridness add? haha[Edited on July 8, 2008 at 3:05 PM. Reason : gas has doubled since the stupid democrats took over]
7/8/2008 3:04:30 PM
a buddy of mine priced out building an electric s-10 that uses the tranny, and it would pay for itself inside of 2 years. 91 mph top speed, acceleration is ass, 70 mile range or so, and 8 hr recharge means no gas for the ride to work ever again...who gives a damn if you have to beef up the shocks for the battery weight, not buying gas is where it's at.

7/8/2008 3:13:17 PM
^^^thats pretty good, also right now you gotta have more of a reason that just saving $$ to get itluckily for me i'm looking for a new car since mine hit 200,000 so getting a shell and converting it is a good investmentthe only thing is i'll need to keep my current car for long trips. which is fine with me[Edited on July 8, 2008 at 3:15 PM. 7/8/2008 3:14:37 PM
also some people dont put power steering and power break, i think i will try to since that would really suck not to have
7/8/2008 3:15:12 PM
power break BRAKE
7/8/2008 3:17:22 PM
yea no power steering would suck, but it saves you 200 rpms that could be utilized running the a/c.
7/8/2008 3:19:19 PM
no i meant power break, like power nap, but its in shorter and done in the car^well i figure you can use a seperate battery for that or something i read, idk, maybe someone else does[Edited on July 8, 2008 at 3:20 PM. Reason : .]

^^you spend almost 500$/month on gas? I can pay my apartment rent and have 190$ left over. Jeez.
7/31/2008 3:48:59 PM
it's gone down a over a quarter a gallon this month... they found the tipping point and it went back fast.anyway usa #1^ yeah thats like 516 a month, that's just stupid. mine's somewhere in the 250 range and i feel like a jackass paying that much ]
7/31/2008 3:49:27 PM
and I just bought a vehicle that gets 10 mpg and requires premium.
7/31/2008 3:52:48 PM
from what I understand, the gas prices are going down mainly because the high gas prices have decreased foot traffic in the convenient stores attatched to pretty much all gas pumps. those owners are willing to take a hit at the pump in hopes of making up for it with increased foot traffic in the stores.
7/31/2008 3:54:07 PM
7/31/2008 3:55:31 PM
think i'm under 100$/month.

I drive a 94 Civic coupe and my commute is about 6 minutes. Most of that 100$ is driving around for social things. Living in the middle of Charlotte helps too. I can get anywhere i want to go in like 10-15 minutes and rush hour usually doesn't effect me.
