Was it enough to convince you to be an organic farmer now?
7/22/2008 6:13:49 PM
fuck nothat organic crap is bullshit, you hippies are being taken for a rideit was the heat not the chemicals, and i think my mask was too tight, my dreds are gettin bigger and they mess with the fit of my mask
7/22/2008 6:14:34 PM
always wear protection
7/22/2008 6:16:30 PM
lol fuck the "organic" industry"organic" is just people making $$$ off of basic plant care principlesthe difference is organic farmers (the HONEST organic farmer...which there are very few) just cull a bunch of product and have a bunch of plants die on em (if the want to stay within the pithy govt regulations regarding organic certification), traditional rational farmers have more steps to protect their investments and the crop/health of the plantthats why your hippy bullshit costs so much more[Edited on July 22, 2008 at 6:26 PM. same here... tho I wasn't spraying pesticides, I was picking leaves 10am and I was dripping sweat...I also hadn't eaten much bfast tho, so that was part of the light-headedness.

7/22/2008 6:42:05 PM
man, that's a significant health riskif passing out is even ALMOST happening to you, you need to speak to your supervisor and have him make adjustments to the procedure that you all use to spray.I don't care how much people pay you....it's not worth causing yourself bodily harm (long or short term) to do your job
7/22/2008 6:44:31 PM
it was just a one time thing, i adjust gotta not be in such a rush to put the mask onit only sucks because you cant exactly readjust unless you wanna resuit up again
7/22/2008 7:01:40 PM
what were you spraying?
7/22/2008 9:01:25 PM
7/22/2008 9:21:51 PM
the only qualifications to free range is that they are allowed like two feet of space around themwhat those guys do is fill their little areas with lil chicks and then let em all grow up togetherthen put em in a big cage, thats still free rangethere is no "chicken heaven" just larger pens
7/22/2008 9:23:28 PM
It's cool man. TWW still knows you could beat up Jack Bauer and Bruce Lee at the same time.Or something... What sort of pesticides were you spraying that you needed to wear gear? Was this one of those commercial situations where you've got high-powered equipment and are spraying an ass-ton of shit that'll give you cancer/lung failure?
7/22/2008 9:28:19 PM
we spray stuff at the higher-than-the-pesticide-label-indicates concentration and we suit up for any spray we dowe spray under a research use license, whic allows us to use higher concentrations than the labeling allowssome of the stuff is more nasty than others but because we mix our stuff at higher rates than the MSDS has researched we suit up in full gearit just sucks when its 100 degrees[Edited on July 22, 2008 at 9:32 PM. 7/22/2008 9:34:33 PM
No job is so important that you should have to rush to get it finished and not have time to prepare your PPE. Unless your employer really really sucks.
7/22/2008 9:35:23 PM

7/22/2008 9:35:27 PM

Organic is too much trouble, but my customers seem satisfied with chicken and cattle raised without animal by-products and antibiotics in the feed. I haven't had any disease problems, but I will use medications as needed for livestock and insecticides as needed for crops. I also don't use hormones in the cattle, and it has long been prohibited in poultry. I can't get the prices that the organic stuff at Carrboro market brings, but I can sell stuff for a price that is decent for me and for the customer.
