I've been thinking lately that I won't have much options on what I do with my hair when I commission in the Marine Corps here in a short while. So, should I grow back the 'hawk and rawk it until I go back on active duty status or should I just keep it buzzed and in regs?

Rock the mohawk while you can.

I had purple hair for a while and I was totally miserable when I had to clean up for student teaching. As soon as I knew I'd be staying at home with my kid, I reached for the dye again.
