a friend is going to be out of the country for a few months and so the gf and i are staying at her place in dupont circle for a few daysi know DC is expensive, but what are some good restaurants to eat at while we're there? looking for the $15-20/person rangealso, i know a few of you live in DC - any idea where we can park the car (i'm prepared to pay for it, just curious as to where might be best)and, finally, i know there's plenty to do there (the museums, zoo, etc.), but what would be the top 3 things to see/do while in DC? planning on taking the metro or walking pretty much everywhere

One of my favorite restaurants up there is Penang. It's Malasian food, and is located on the 1800 block of M St NW.I don't know about parking near Dupont, but you could probably just park at a Metro station (I have friends who have done that) and just rely on the subway. The Red line goes right through Dupont.
7/30/2008 10:08:56 AM
^ you wont be able to park at any of the metro stations without a smartip card, and even then, you'd be leaving your car about 10 miles away at the ends of the lines.you may be ok with that, otherwise, see if your friend will get you a visitors parking pass for her parking zone at one of the nearby police substations. they're free and allow you to street park, but im not sure if both of you have to be there at the same time or if she can just have a copy of your license. she has to be a resident with a DC tag and zone appropriate parking sticker to do that option.all else failing, there's plenty of daily garages downtown but they're $district

DUDE this is where i grew up and live! for brunch- you Have to go to the Dupont grille...they have THE BEST BRUNCH..get the crab cake and salmon hash w/ salad (my personal fav) and wash it down with a mimosa--about 18-20$for lunch-hop on the metro go to adams morgan, and go to the infamous BENS CHILI BOWL!! i know it'll kill your heart, but you have to go here if you come to DC..only 8-12$ snd you may see Bill Cosby who frequents the placefor dinner- if you like indian food go to Aroma, its by dupont on Conn Ave., 1200 or 1100 i think, you can get a great meal for 2 for only 35$if you like italian YOU HAVE TO GO TO Otello!!! also on Conn Ave and its authentic italian for CHEAP, highest meal is like 15$IF YOU LIKE SEAFOOD, WHICH YOU SHOULD IF YOUR VISITING DC...go to McCormick and Schmicks, or Phillips or the Oceanaire..they're all kind of pricey but seafood is never cheap, and if it is DONT EAT IT!!!CLUBBING- my fav is 1223/Spank.not far from dupont, spacey and really unique set-up...or Fly lounge..a club shaped like a plane, nice, kinda cramped though and hard to get in at times, but also close to Dupont
7/30/2008 10:27:56 AM
yeah you need to go to Ben'sbut that's more on the U St side/green line...in fact it's right in front ofthe U St Cardoza stopfor someone not from there telling them to go to Ben's by way of AM is kinda around your elbow to get to your ass

7/30/2008 10:55:31 AM
i'm a fan of la loma, or rosa mexicana, not cheap though.poste at hotel monaco has great drinks (you could just get drunk and not eat instead!)asia nine is a great place, asian fusion restaurant.chop't salad place is sooooo amazing in my opinion. salads and wraps. and they have one in dupont...actually, there's good food all over the city. just start walking, you'll hit something eventually

If you like foreign beers, check out Brickskellar. They've got thousands of beers, foreign and domestic, to choose from. The spy museum is pretty cool.Take in a play at the Kennedy Center. Shear Madness is pretty funny. The zoo is pretty nice and it's free.Eastern Market is an interesting place to spend a Saturday morning. They've got a ton of local vendors selling their various wares. I'm not sure if they rebuilt the main building since it burned down last year, but if so, you have to eat at the Market Lunch. Breakfast or lunch, you can't go wrong.

Camelot, Archibalds, CCR
7/30/2008 11:42:16 AM
like LunaK said, it's really going to depend on what area/neighborhood you're in...you could spend your time traipsing around all over but it's actually pretty time consuming if you're relying on metro. but it's really hard not to find somewhere good to eat in any of the basic areas (gtown/caphill/midtown/NW/waterfront/etc) and even down at the neighborhood level

If you're adventurous, there's a good Vietnamese restaurant called Saigon Inn. I went there 11 years ago so I don't know if it's even still there. The restaurant in the National Gallery is really nice. A little pricey, as most museum restaurants are, but a very pleasant atmosphere. When I stayed at the Premier Hotel (across the street from the Watergate), the hotel had a neat '50s themed restaurant. I'd like to go there next time I go to D.C.
